I bought this tripod as I was traveling by plane to do a backpacking trip in the Grand Canyon. Havasupai Falls. I had to pack light and I knew I would be in the water a lot with my tripod with rough or uneven terrain. I very happy with the stability it promised for the weight it can handle. I used it for long exposures for shooting moving water. It proved to be what they advertised.

I have the Aluminum version and like the flick lock very much. I thought the carber Fiber version will be better due to the weight. However, this version is only a little lighter and cost almost twice as much. Not worth it. However, the tripod it self is very good. I recommend the aluminum version.

Comments about Manfrotto BeFree Compact Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod (Black):

This is a lightweight, compact tripod, intended for travel and backpacking on trails. It does not have any of the fancy features the Manfrotto full sized tripods feature. At first it appears too small, too fragile to do the job, but I've shot my 70-200 f/2.8 L series lens on this tripod with no problem. I would not recommend it for any heavier lens, but how big a telephoto are you taking on a hike? The set part about this tripod is it folds back on itself, which makes it very compact and short. Great tripod so long as you understand it's limitations.

Comments about Manfrotto BeFree Compact Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod (Black):

I travel frequently and always try to bring a tripod; you never know when you'll need it. My last tripod (a decently light Rocketfish tripod I picked up years ago from @) was just too bulky to carry onto planes, and was a pain to lug around on my SlingShot 102AW bag.So it was perfect when Manfrotto introduced their new Advanced Travel Backpack/BeFree Tripod combo (with rebate!). This tripod is super light, folds up super compact, and gets the job done! And it looks great doing it, too!Just a few minor complaints:- Cheap feeling plastic leg releases; no issues so far but strange material choice for a load bearing joint- Leg sections have a lot of slop/slack when extending; when open, the sections can rotate and almost feel like they'll jam when you lock down again- No ballast hook for windy situations- No panning tripod head; probably to save packaging spaceDespite these minor gripes, this tripod is a no brainer when coupled with the Advanced Travel Backpack. It's light, relatively sturdy, and fits the tripod pocket perfectly on the backpack. If you're looking for something portable, this tripod is hard to beat in this price range.

Comments about Manfrotto BeFree Compact Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod (Black):

I received this in the mail today and was very excited at how light this is. I have switched to Mirrorless cameras so I don't need a heavier tripod most of the time. I do own a more substantial tripod that I would use except for travel. I would give it 5 stars except I was disappointed that it wouldn't allow me to use my L-Bracket. As a result, it doesn't feel as sturdy or as secure when attached with the plate it came with. Time will tell. The weight, however, is a huge advantage and it appears to be very well built. I ordered the special Manfrotto bag that will allow me to put this in a back[pack but this could easily be packed in a suitcase adding very little weight. You wouldn't believe how light it is.

Comments about Manfrotto BeFree Compact Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod (Black):

I used this tripod for travel with a Nikon D7100 and 16-85 mm Zoom lens. The tripod held up even in windy conditions on the summit of Haleakalā on Maui. It was necessary to shield the camera and tripod from the wind, but I got good long exposure shots of the Milky Way and the sunrise.I wouldn't recommend any larger camera or lens with this tripod. Also, using an L-bracket when taking vertical photos is recommended, as leaning the camera over to the side for vertical shots makes a very unstable platform. With a smaller camera tilting the camera for vertical shots would probably be OK.The tripod is very compact and lighweight, and fit nicely in my suitcase. A carrying bag is included. The tripod comes with a small ballhead and standard Manfrotto quick release plate. Operating the quick release requires pushing down on a locking mechanism with a finger while simulatneously opening the clamp with the thumb and holding the camera with the other hand. This is a bit awkward and requires some practice. One thing the tripod needs and lacks is a hook to hang weight on the tripod for additional stability.

A bit expensive but an excellent choice

Has already proven to be a useful accessory for taking photographs during hiking and convenient for travel given the fact that it is light yet strong. Feel comfortable with camera in place even in uneven terrain.

Comments about Manfrotto BeFree Compact Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod (Black):

I bought this tripod as I was traveling by plane to do a backpacking trip in the Grand Canyon. Havasupai Falls. I had to pack light and I knew I would be in the water a lot with my tripod with rough or uneven terrain. I very happy with the stability it promised for the weight it can handle. I used it for long exposures for shooting moving water. It proved to be what they advertised.
