The B+W 46mm Kaesemann Circular Polarizer MRC Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

Kaesemann-type filters feature greater optical efficiency than regular polarizing foils and are more neutral in color. The polarizing foils are cemented between plano-parallel optical glass layers, which are then precision-polished to achieve the most accurate plano-parallel surface. This edge sealing protects the filter layers from humidity and are ideal for use with high-speed telephoto and apochromatic lenses.

The Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) is both an anti-reflection coating as well as a protective surface. It helps to increase light transmission by reducing reflections, scattered light, and ghosting. Additionally, it offers greater protection to the filter substrate and stays cleaner for longer than uncoated filters.

B+W filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. They feature a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° from the sun.
Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.
Kaesemann polarizing foils provide highly neutral coloring and higher image quality than conventional polarizing foils.
Multi-Resistant Coating offers both protection to the glass and helps to improve light transmission and image quality.
Constructed from high quality Schott glass for optical clarity.
Brass filter ring helps to prevent jamming and provides additional strength.

Comments about B+W 46mm Kaesemann Circular Polarizer MRC Filter:

I use this for some of my Micro 4/3 lenses. It works great, B+W MRC is a very effective anti-reflection coating.

Not much to say about it, it's a polarizer, it works very well, it's very sturdy.

I kind of wish they had a slim version of this, but it doesn't seem to cause any vignetting on the 12mm so it's probably not necessary.

Comments about B+W 46mm Kaesemann Circular Polarizer MRC Filter:

It looked expensive for what I paid, but the more I use it the more I appreciate the quality of this brass & glass instrument. Kaesemann filters are built to keep out the environment, and the tight tolerances are obvious with close inspection. The coatings do a great job of stopping flare and protecting the surface of the glass (water beads up on the filter is very easy to clean). Best of all, the polariser does its job well. Skies come out particularly well.

Comments about B+W 46mm Kaesemann Circular Polarizer MRC Filter:

I bought this filter for my Panasonic FZ35 because of the promise of neutral color. The camera produces excellent images in good light even though it has a small sensor. The camera was inexpensive, so I originally bought an inexpensive filter that would have worked fine with slides that didn't need critical quality. But it ruined skies and water on the FZ35, making delicate blues muddy and turning deep blue skies turquoise. The camera is so good that I use it when I need a zoom to supplement the prime lenses on my Nikon D300 and Sony NEX-5N. I wanted good polarization so the pictures from the FZ35 pictures would match those from the other cameras as well as possible. As long as I was spending money on a B+W filer, I figured I'd spend a little extra for the one that advertised neutral colors, since the FZ35 is so sensitive to polarization. I haven't noticed any color shift with the Kaesemann Polarizer, only the clarity and rich colors I wanted and that my other cameras deliver. The construction and overall quality is what I expect from the brand and for the price.
