This Tetenal C-41 Press Kit consists of just one bag of powder each for color developer and bleach/fix. The Tetenal C-41 Press Kit for Color Negative Film is perfect for the traveling photographer or anyone who needs long shelf life, fast mixing and quick processing with consistently excellent results.

This kit is specially designed for the traveling journalist; this chemistry is compact and safe for air travel. Equally well suited for processing with hand inversion tanks and in rotary processors.

Two plastic bags contain the crystals which when stirred in warm water dissolve in seconds, not minutes. There is also a paper envelope with stabilizer in crystal form.

The processing time at 45°C is 10:30 minutes! At 38°C the time is 13:15.

Ok, so if your even thinking twice about buying this developer your nuts. its the cheapest one out there and super easy to mix and use. just have 3 1 liter botles pour the chems in and mix. that easy. the only time i have had issues were if the film was 30 plus years old and i developed too long, or i loaded them in steel reels which were hard to use and overlaped the film on accedent. user error :( so i got plastic reels. :) happy face.

One last note. don't loose your instructions!!!!!!!! i could not stress this enough. but if you do, here they are for the hand tank method.

    **type time temp agitation**

    *pre-soak* 1min 102 none
    *developer* 3.5min 102 agitate first
    10sec then 4
    inversions every 30secs
*Blix* 6.5min 95-105 same as above
***rest can be done in open tank***
    *wash* 3min 95-105 running water
*stabalizer* 1/2-1min room temp agitatate 15sec

It's difficult to give this kit a fair rating, since results are subject to my own competencies. I used this to develop 6 rolls of 120 film (so far). Five of the rolls were Portra 800, and one roll was Fuji 160 Pro. The Fuji film came out stunningly good, as good or better than the lab I usually use (NCPS). If I were to base this review solely on that, it would be 5 stars for sure. The Portra came out less well. Two of the rolls had a color cast that was very difficult to impossible to correct digitally. The remaining 3 rolls came out fairly well, just a slight (and correctable) color cast, but not what I would call professional results. Maintaining temps was easier than I thought, so I don't think I messed anything up during the process, but I'm definitely a newbie...

Comments about Tetenal C-41 Press Kit for Color Negative Film (Powder):

I have been developing my own B&W film for a little over a year and due to temperature control have been afraid to try color (C41). So I finally decided to jump in feet first using this kit, and oh boy is it easy. I think it might even be easier than B&W because there are no variables, all films use the same time, and agitation technique. I was afraid to try my own color at first for fear that I couldn't hold the temperatures, lo and behold it's pretty simple. I get the chemicals up to temp (developer and blix) by preheating them to 102 degrees farenheit in a bucket of the hottest water I can draw from my tap. I also place my paterson tank in the bucket between agitation cycles to help hold the temp. So far thats worked excellantly, the kit says it can do eight 36 exposure rolls of 35mm. I've got 22 rolls of 120 on my first kit and have yet to experience any negative effects.

Leary of doing C-41 @ home. I took the plunge and bought this kit. Reading the instructions it seemed straight forward. Clear and precise! Temperatures are critical to maintain, but can be done. Did 8 rolls on my first go. Each processed great and will purchase again, and again...

If you have developed color film before you like this 3 step kit (bleach and fix in one step)

If you have never but are interested in giving it a try - go for it.

Developing average goes much faster then black and white film yet its more senstive to developer, fixer temperature - and if you dont have that right it can and will mess up your film :(

Great kit to start and use regularily, with any color film powderbased with easy mixing instructions

                  I've developed 8 rolls of 35mm 36ex.
2 rolls were velvia cross processed
1 roll was push processed 2 stops
and the other 5 were normally developed

The last roll I just did came out really underdeveloped (probably from cross processing) but still scanned wonderful. I'll try one more roll and let it sit in the developer a little longer.

I love that this comes pre-measured so I don't have to do any measuring or rely on my chemistry skills. It smells a bit strong so don't mix them in a closed area with poor circulation.

A friend of mine and I both purchased these chems to try them out. Mine where in clear glass bottles and lasted as long as they packing says they would. My friend, however, used brown tinted glass bottles and his chems have lasted twice as long and have the same effects.

This kit is super easy to use. I bought this kit dozens of times in the past year and the results never disappoint. The chemistry is simple enough to mix (just make sure you wear a mask) and keep it in dark air tight containers once it is mixed so you will get the most life out of your chemistry. With a product like this I'm surprised more people don't hand process their own color film, it saves so much money and time.

My only issue with it is that even after I rinse my film for 8+ minutes there is still some chemistry residue left on some of the film. Always requires a second water wash after drying the film.

Seriously though, it works every time. Check your temps and you'll get good, consistent results.

Comments about Tetenal C-41 Press Kit for Color Negative Film (Powder):

I bought this kit so I could avoid the wait and expense of sending my film away for processing. I use it to process 120 film, and I've used it on Portra 160/400 and Ektar 100 with the same timing and technique given in the instruction sheet.

This was my first attempt to process color film myself, and the kit made it very easy. Despite always operating on the misconception that c41 was much more difficult than BW, I found it was even easier than black and white, and faster. If you're set up for black and white, you don't need to have any extra equipment - just warmer water.

I guess the drawback would be that the instructions say that you should use it up within a week and it only gives 8 rolls of 120, but I've been using it for 2 weeks now (maybe 6 rolls) without any loss of quality that I can discern. I keep the solutions in the dark in 1L glass bottles. Even if I only get 6 rolls out of it, I would have paid close to $70 ($10/roll +shipping) to send that same amount of film to the online film processor I've been using and had to wait a week to get my negatives back. I think it would be reasonable to get at least 10 rolls out of one kit which gives a significant savings in terms of the per-roll cost.

I'm going to order two more kits now and keep them in reserve.

Comments about Tetenal C-41 Press Kit for Color Negative Film (Powder):

I had prepared this kit some 7 months ago and processed some 10 rolls of 120 film, a dozen of 35mm and pushed some 2 stops over during that time.

This kit s recommend to anyone who wants to do C41 at home and for consistency. From Ektar 100, Portra 160/400 and some Fujifilm 400, this kit works very well.
