You can keep this hood on your lens all the time. Push the hood back to the retracted position, and it's easy to snap your original lens cap onto the inner metal ring of the hood.

When retracted, this hood doesn't stick out beyond the front of the lens, but it does increase the lens diameter. It's a lot less extra bulk to carry around than a conventional hood.

I'm using this hood with the Panasonic 25mm f/1.4 micro four thirds lens, and there is no vignetting. I also tried this hood on the Olympus 12mm f/2 lens, but as expected, there is significant vignetting.

I haven't tried stacking a circular polarizer on top of the hood to see if that causes vignetting.

I like that this hood screws into my polarizer; that's why I bought it. I can turn the hood along with the filter and keep my fingers away from the glass. It is very effective and easy to use.One year of collapsing for storage and extending for use caused the hood to split around the thinnest rubber area. There are not many choices for 46mm hoods, so I will buy another to replace mine and hope the new one lasts longer.

Rubber lens hood does the job of of the rigid hood cover without taking up room in my bag. Rubber lens collapses down so it saves space but is always there when needed.

Comments about B+W 46mm #900 Rubber Lens Hood:

I purchased this for my 20mm Panasonic pancake lens and used it for landscape/vista photography in pre-noon sun at a national park. I was really happy with it. It substantially reduced sky blowout--I think it did it better than my graduated filter (although I'm not a pro, so maybe I was just doing something wrong). That alone made me very happy. The collapsible hood is space-saving, lets you take a lens cap on and off without much difficulty, and--call me easily amused--is just sort of fun to play with. I use a micro 4/3rds camera and a pancake lens because I want something compact--adding a regular lens hood would have defeated the purpose of my setup. This was a great solution for me!

I have no issues. Screws on great. I put it on my Olympus 12mm 2.0 lens and when fully extended you can see it in the corners. So you can keep it collapsed or trim it with scissors which I did. Or don't use it on this lens. Oh and that's on my GH3.

Comments about B+W 46mm #900 Rubber Lens Hood:

Looks nicely made, but I left this on a remotely run camera in a homemade housing with the lens hood exposed to the elements. After a couple of months the rubber hood disintegrated. It does look like it would perform well under conditions it was probably designed for, and the collapsible aspect (if it doesn't tear) is convenient.

They have been around for years and work just great for a standard to wide prime lens. The B+W hoods are inexpensive and the rubber lasts a long time. I have used these on occassion to press the lens against a window when I have to shoot through glass and since they flex you can shoot at angles without getting reflections from the window.

I'm using this lens hood on my µ4/3 lenses. I tried it on both the 19mm and 30mm Sigma EX DN lenses and I found no vignetting at those focal lengths. The hood folds down and is quite compact. It can take filters and they screw in well, but I would recommend removing the hood in that case.

For a leave on all the time hood this can't be beat, especially at the low price. Five stars here.

I have bought cheaper lens hoods. They tend to be floppy and fall apart and just not work well. This one is crisp in its action and holds it shape. Threads on nicely and no sign of it falling apart. I have it on the Panny f1.7x20mm prime on a Panny GH-1. It's like its made for it. No vignette with this lens, even combined with a UV filter. It folds flush with the lens. Highly recommended and it really sharpens the image by keeping the stray light off.

Got this for my MFT Panasonic 20mm f1.7 lens and I couldn't be more happy with it. I love the design and function and of course the B+W quality. It's compact and folds back for transport while allowing you to use your existing lens cap.

I plan on replacing the hoods on my 45mm, 12-50mm and 40-200mm with these B+W Screw-In Folding Rubber Lens Hoods.

I love the design of this hood. It is made of quality materials and workmanship. B+W expected quality for sure. It retracts back nicely and compact for storage and transport. Get one, it's essential equipment and the price is right.

I wonder if they make them in other sizes?

The purchased lens did not come with a hood.
The hood also makes it easier to use the polarizing filter (openeing size is 49 mm), and keeps fingers away from the filter.
                                                  No negatives.

I bought this for my Lumix 20mm 1.7 lens used on a Panasonic AF-100.
I really like being able to leave the lens hood on the lens with the hood folded back AND the lens cap in place. Very reasonable price too. I'm very happy with this product.

I were looking for hood for Sigma 30/2.8 EX DN. Frankly speaking I am not a big fan of rubber hoods. In a past I had couple and both of them were disappointment. Nothing compare to real, well designed hood (read Zeiss :) ). But with Sigma I were out of luck, B&H had few to choose from. So looking on price, I OK let's go for most expensive one (doesn't break a bank actually). When I got it, I was very surprised. Excellent quality. Sits firm on lens. Collapses into small ring. Joy to use. Plus if you have to shot through glass, this hood indispensable. Worth every cent.

It works as advertised. It's compact enough so I keep it on all the time, and the front is threaded so I can put my front caps on it. I should mention, it covers the 14/2.5 perfectly with no vignetting.
