This is an absolute must have for your EF50 f/1.8. Not only does it prevent glare, it adds much needed weight to this flimsy little lens.

Note: When screwing the hood on or off, make sure the lens is switched to manual focus to prevent stripping the gears in the little micromotor.

My old rubber lens hood cracked and split, and I needed a new one. Lens hoods don't just block stray light they protect the lens from stray fingers, and foreign objects. And this one being made of collapsible rubber, makes storing it in my camera bag a snap. It seems to be made decently enough for the price.

Comments about B+W 52mm #900 Rubber Lens Hood:

Nice hood, I like rubber hoods because of the added protection they provide. However, this hood does not work on the 18-55 zoom lens I bought it for at wide angle focal lengths, it causes vignetting. I'm would expect it to be fine on other than wide angle lenses, live and learn.

Comments about B+W 52mm #900 Rubber Lens Hood:

This lens hood works well. However, I have a Tamron 17-50 mm lens and you can see the hood from 17 to about 25 mm. So don't buy it if you are going to use a lens 25 mm or less. I only purchased it to help me get good photos at the aquarium. It works well for this since I can place the hood against the glass.

Comments about B+W 52mm #900 Rubber Lens Hood:

I was hoping to use this hood for my 18-55mm lens on my Nikon D3200. Does a great job from 55mm down to 24mm but below 24mm to 18mm, the corners of the image start to darken and cloud with the edges of the hood. The original lens cap works perfectly with this hood in place on the camera.

Works great with Olympus 17mm f/1.8 lens

Comments about B+W 52mm #900 Rubber Lens Hood:

Even though this is described as being for normal lenses, and the Olympus 17mm f/1.8 is a wideish angle, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that when used with a 46mm to 52mm step-up ring, a filter, and then this lens hood on top of the filter, there was absolutely no vignetting.

So while this rubber hood doesn't look as elegant as the official lens hood, it's a heckuva lot less expensive, allows you to use 52mm filters (which are more common than 46mm filters), and the official lens hood is impossible to use with a polarizing filter, while with this rubber hood, you just turn the hood and the polarizing filter turns along with it, couldn't be easier.

                Highly recommended.

This is my first rubber lens hood. I am not sure that I would use one for my bigger lens, but for the Canon 40 stm I think it is a good purchase. I like that it protects the lens from bumps and bought it more for that reason then to keep out stray light. It is a good price.

You've got a situation where you want to block stray light from your "nifty fifty," this is one way to go about it. Attaches to the filter threads and gives you a bit more shade. Not very rigid, but folds back nicely.

This hood is made from a softer rubber than the Nikon and Heliopan hoods that I've tried, so it's easier to fold it in and out, but it's still strong enough to support my old Nikon EM with 50mm lens (610g) if I put it lens-down on a tabletop. Matches the 50mm lens well.

Well made. I use this folding lens hood mostly with a circular polarizing filter, as it allows easy turning of the outer filter ring without removing the hood. The only negative is that on the wide end of a zoom lens there is somw vignetting, but that is not a big deal; if I need the wide capability I can resort to the original tulip hood and lose the ease of turning the ring.

Do not underestimate the quality of B+W. This flexible screw-in hood is a life saver on my Nifty 50 Cannon. The shading is perfect for elimination of artifacts and provides great protection. The weight of the hood is a great addition to the light weight nature of the Cannon 50mm. The texture of the rubber makes a snug fit for my matt box donut. The collapsing feature makes for easy application of the lens cover and storage in the camera bag. I would not leave home without it, and I would recommend this product again and again.

I've put these on all of my MFT lens (1 exception - more later) whether Olympus or Panasonic. They accomplish their intent - prevent flare and scattered light from entering the lens.

They work perfectly on the following:

                                                    • Panasonic 20mm
                                                    • Panasonic 45-200mm
                                                    • Olympus 45mm

They do not work on the Olympus 12-50mm because the lens is to wide and the hood comes into view at the widest aperture.

                                                    Great product!

I wanted a hood for my new portrait lens. This is just right. The threads work well, the rubber seems the right weight to fold easily, yet hold up well. I can't think of a "con", really.

I bought rubber lens hoods for two of my lenses. This one fits my 50 mm f1.4 Nikon lens (my camera is a D900). I like to shoot photos at the Georgia Aquarium, and the rubber lens hood allows me to place the apparatus in direct contact with an exhibit's acrylic panels without the possibility of scratching the acrylic or admitting stray reflections into the photograph. I wish the hood were just a little stiffer because it wants to collapse when I put it against the acrylic, which defeats the purpose. But if I take just a little care with what I'm doing, it works just fine -- and it sure beats the alternatives.
