This is my second purchase of this plate. This plate has the dovetail cut in the same direction as the lens plates, instead of 90 degrees off to the side. This wouldn't be a problem if you only use the ball head mount. I have a Wimberley Head and this allows the camera to be mounted on it, pointed in the correct direction, if I'm not using a large lens with a lens plate. I don't have to carry an extra tripod or change the mount when switching camera/lens combinations. Now all my lens plates and camera body plates are pointed in the same direction. The only downside is this puts the head clamp knob close to the camera body, but not really a problem unless you are wearing thick gloves.

It is well made using good materials, except for the glue that they use, as the rubber pad of mine started peeling off on the first day of use. Arca-Swiss support recommends using Pliobond, but I just use standard two-part epoxy to glue it back.
I bought it together with the Z1, which functions flawlessly so far. However I won't be buying addition quick release plates from Arca-Swiss.

I use Arca-Swiss on all my equipment and needed this for a new camera. No hassles and everything works smoothly. A little on the pricy side, but you get what you pay for.

Comments about Arca-Swiss Universal Camera Plate 1/4" Small:
I photograph mostly birds. I have a BlackRapid strap and normally hang my camera from the foot of my 300mm lens. When using a smaller lens, I needed a plate to fit onto the bottom of my D7000. This works just fine. It has not loosened up on me and locks right into the Arca style mounts I have for both my strap and my gimbal head.

I love this plate. It can be used with several well known tripod head companies! I like the rubber surface, as it doesn't scratch the base of your camera. Buy with confidence.

What to say about a simple little equipment selection... It fits well, does the job and does everything youd expect. I use this on my 5Dmkii and will soon add this same one to my other cameras. I like the rubber surface opposed to those without because it protects your investment.

Comments about Arca-Swiss Universal Camera Plate 1/4" Small:
This plate is always on my camera for those times when I need to quickly mount onto my ballhead for landscape or other still photography. This design is simple yet effective. There is not much to discuss...It works as expected, and is invisible when you are not using it. I do not even know it's on my camera. Lightweight and secure.

Comments about Arca-Swiss Universal Camera Plate 1/4" Small:
When I upgraded to a Canon pro body, my old release plate would not work as it has a lip on it. But after using this one I am going to order another and throw my old one away! The rubber surface on this protects the body from scratches. The old one scraped up my 5D body and made it worth less when I sold it. This new plate fits tighter and will not scrape up your camera body. All in all, worth the money even if your old one still works.

Comments about Arca-Swiss Universal Camera Plate 1/4" Small:
It is a QR plate, so there isn't anything technical about it. Does what it's supposed to do. Fits well with my D90 and doesn't feel loose at all once you tighten, just a little expensive for a piece of metal.
For those BR/sunsniper strap users, do not get because there isn't an extra hole for the strap mount at the bottom. This is the only negative thing (which is why I put poor design) If you were to use anything else that uses the bottom screw hole, you'll want to get a Markin plate instead.
Other than that, you are buying an Arca Swiss product, so enough said!
