Circular Polarizer - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.
Multicoated to minimize reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting.
NOTE: Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems and video cameras without problems). Linear polarizers are used with most video and manual focus photo cameras. They are not recommended for auto-focus SLR cameras.

Comments about Hoya 52mm Circular Polarizer (HMC) Multi-Coated Glass Filter:
For outdoor pictures and some indoor, this filter works great! I use it mostly for vacations and some studio work, and it more than meets my needs. I was told about this filter by a professional photographer. She was specific about brand and filter type. The removal of glares and white spots is amazing.

Not so much a story of how well a filter works but more the benefit if shooting with it on my Sony FX100. My point and shoot days have been changed all for the better.

Comments about Hoya 52mm Circular Polarizer (HMC) Multi-Coated Glass Filter:
I bought this filter mainly for reducing reflections and increasing clarity when photographing water, and this filter has delivered well to my expectations.
One slightly inconvenient aspect is when stacking this filter with another. If over-tightened, the filters stick to each other, and can be a pain in the neck to separate later.
Also, the filter does not have threads in the front. Not sure if polarisers have threads in the front to stack more filters, but it definitely becomes an issue when using the filter with my ND400 filter. Basically, the image (viewfinder or live-view) becomes too dark after attaching the ND, so I've to find the best orientation of the circular polariser before I attach it on my camera, using the mark on the filter as a reference.
Apart from this, the polariser behaves just as a polariser should, cutting reflections, improving clarity, etc.
I do not observe any significant vignetting or flare/reflections while using this filter.

Comments about Hoya 52mm Circular Polarizer (HMC) Multi-Coated Glass Filter:
I already owned a 49mm Hoya Linear polarizing filter for use with my manual focus lenses. Bought this one for use with some of my newer AF lenses. Experience with brand, favorable reviews and pricing influenced product selection.
Both filters are rugged and do precisely what they are supposed to do.

This filter is well made and works very well. Is difficult to clean though, found using a celestron lens pen works best..

I bought this to use with my newly purchased D5100. It is well made and was reasonably priced for a multi-coated filter. I haven't used it too much yet but so far I have been happy with it.
