Comments about Beyerdynamic DT 250 Circumaural Closed-Back Stereo Studio Headphones (80 Ohms):

The DT-250's don't sound spectacular but they sound accurate in the LF and MF the high end tails off a bit and so they fall just short of being the perfect headphone. In contrast to the DT770 Pro 80 Ohm they make a nice reference and between the two they represent most critical listening/mixing applications.

Comments about Beyerdynamic DT 250 Circumaural Closed-Back Stereo Studio Headphones (80 Ohms):

I bought the Beyerdynamic dt250-80ohm model because I already have and love the dt25-250 ohm model and was also just curious to see how the 80 ohm version sounded. The 80ohm version is slightly louder at the same volume level against the 250 ohm version, is bassier, has less high frequency extension and has slightly more forward mids than the 80 ohm model. I am sure that for some people, the 80 ohm model is even preferrable to the 250 ohm model for the bigger bass and slightly more forward mids making them better for many mainstream recordings.

If I were to name other headphones that I like that I can compare with the dt250s, they would be the Sennheiser HD600s and hd650s. The Senn HD600s are closer sounding to the 250 ohm beyers while the 650s being darker and bassier sound more like the 80 ohm dt250 model.

Despite the minor shortcomings of these cans, and basing on the many other closed headphones I've heard, the dt250-80s have such a nice midrange and relaxing sound without being peaky thats actually unheard of in its price range except when compared to its 250 ohm twin.

I recommend these cans to anyone that wants some isolation while maintaining a smoothness in response that is usually only possible out of good open cans. If a boom-tisssshhh V-shaped sound is more your cup of tea then I would recommend getting something like an audio technica M50 instead.

Comments about Beyerdynamic DT 250 Circumaural Closed-Back Stereo Studio Headphones (80 Ohms):

I purchased my DT-250s for home studio production usage and although I only have used them for a handful of hours at this point, I already know I love them.

After deciding on this model first and then coming full circle back to it, I am completely satisfied with my purchase. I don't know how these cans compare to others, but they are top-quality and I'm glad I went with Beyer.

The sound quality is very balanced and clear, highlighting so many elements I was missing before. I like the flat response and am pleased that the bass does not overpower.

I am also overjoyed that the cups fit nicely, offering comfortable velvet ear pads and a oval shape for larger ears (like mine). The headset adjusts nicely also and the removable cord connection seems great for mobility around the studio.

Overall, I really have nothing bad to say about these headphones. I would highly recommend them.

Comments about Beyerdynamic DT 250 Circumaural Closed-Back Stereo Studio Headphones (80 Ohms):

Plugged to the line out jack on an on board sound card, I use these headphones at the computer for music while studying and surfing the web. Also have used these while playing starcraft 2, counter-strike source and battle-field bad company 2.

Physical: standard jet black, made primarily from plastic, screws, pleather for the headband and velvet for the earpads. Adjustable headband and tilting earpads allow for a secure fit. Clampforce is present, will not fall off your head when reading a book, and does not hurt. Earpads go around my ears, and does not touch, however with long hours of use, I have experienced a slight sensitivity along my ear from pressing around my ears. Velvet pads do not make ears sweaty. Coiled wire (detachable, but comes with a screw to secure) is heavy and cumbersome (compared to a straight cable), and at times annoying on pages while studying and gets in the way of the mouse. Recommend you have hooks, books or headphone stands to hold the thing above the desk.

Coiled wire ends with a 3.5mm jack (gold plated) and comes with a gold plated 1/4" inch converter(screws on).

Sound: It's fantastic, and does not leave me in want. Bass is present; counter-strike shotgun blasts are very satisfying to listen to. Listening to Tori Amos sing is wonderful, I can hear the audience commentary in live performances. Guitar is distinguishable between pianos and drums. Listening to music is satisfying, and I have found myself enjoying tracks that previously discounted.

Isolation: Blocks out noise from the outside, next door's lawnmower is easily blocked out without having to raise the volume. Although I can hear the lawnmower, it is no longer distractingly loud.

Gameplay: Tested with TF2, can easily tell if an explosion is coming from behind you, and where from behind. :)

Overall, a satisfying product, providing me everything I want out of headphones.

Comments about Beyerdynamic DT 250 Circumaural Closed-Back Stereo Studio Headphones (80 Ohms):

In conjunction with a Mytek stereo dac, the listening experience is phenomenal. The highs are smooth, never harsh. The clarity is brilliant. The lows are well separated and not exaggerated. Hands down the best headphones you can buy for the price, and then some. Comparing these with Ultrasones, I find that the sones were much more brighter and lacked quite a bit in the mids and mid lows.
The construction quality of the headphones is top notch. I wear these every single day on my commute and they are very, very comfortable. I like the telephone chord wire since there is never too much slack, but it doesn't feel heavy. The closed design is also great for blocking out outside noise. I can't even hear or focus on any other sounds around me while listening to all sorts of music at a reasonable level on a train.
These headphones will make you enjoy music like you've never enjoyed it before.

I wasn't completely sure about getting these, I mean... really? Is any set of headphones really worth [$]??? Much less the [$] these normally sell for! A friend of mine talked me into getting a nice quality set of cans, and helped me pick out this pair as my first pair of quality headphones. After getting them and trying them out, they're awesome! While I still agree that they're not really NECESSARY, I'll admit that it is a different experience than listening to music from a pair of cheap earbuds. I typically run these un-amped off of one of two iPods (30 GB 5th Gen. iPod Video, or a small 8 GB 3rd Gen. iPod Nano) and my laptop. I don't really notice any exceptional power drain on the iPods, which was really surprising. Even without an amp, they're still louder than I ever really need. Even though they aren't noise cancelling, the awesome seal they make around your ears, plus the closed back, do an outstanding job of isolating you from outside noise. Thanks to this isolation, I'm able to keep the volume lower than I have ever before, saving not only my battery life, but my hearing too.The sound is crisp and clear. I can pick up details in the music that I didn't know were there, which really surprised me (especially on a lot of hip-hop and rap, which I really didn't expect to have a lot of the high-resolution details... cause I never really considered it important to the style before this). The construction is solid and super comfortable. I tend to wear these for hours at a time while studying, and often forget that I have them on... though they can occasionally get a little hot (especially when your desk is right next to the radiator :-/).They are, of course, a bit bulky, but if you're looking at circumaural headphones, then you've already come to grips with that aspect anyways. They're pretty light for their size. There are only two construction flaws of any significance: 1) The space for your ear to fit into the padding of each speaker is a little narrow. It hasn't been a major issue for me, but if you've got large ears, or just sensitive, it may not be the best idea. 2) The cord is a little obnoxious, but I don't know what they're like for other 'phones. It's a 4 foot curly cord (like on old school telephones) that stretches out to like 6+ feet (or something like that). Its not the length thats bothersome, I just tuck it into my pocket when walking around. The plug that attaches the cord to the headphones is enormous. It has a bunch of extra prongs for features present in other headsets but not these. I think Beyerdynamic just decided to save some money (which passes on to you) by going bulk with their cables and using the same one on all their 'phones. (side note- the cable comes with an adapter so you can use it with either a standard headphone jack or whatever the larger standard is that is used for amps/etc... kinda obvious which one I use, huh?)So yea, great piece of equipment. If you're hesitant about purchasing, but you know you want something better, I would buy these again in a heartbeat. B&H had the best price I could find for them online (aside from some of the specialty forums, which are a little more complicated to purchase through). [...] I would readily purchase from B&H again.

I use them for listening to music on my PC without disturbing others. They are pretty neutral with a slightly recessed treble. The bass is pretty tight and punchy. The only thing I don't like so much about these headphones is the clamping force on the head. They are a lot tighter that DT770 and DT880. Overall though it's a very enjoyable headphone.
