[$]. The main weakness is the metal bracket is screwed to a block of plastic, and the screws wiggle in that block, so a mounted flash is held relatively securely to the metal plate, but the whole construction wobbles. For my own use, I'm unscrewing the metal plate from the plastic block and bolting it to something else, so that's only a minor drawback. So the bottom line is that yes, I'd recommend this to a friend — but only to specific friends for specific reasons.

Comments about General Brand Flash Accessory Shoe with Tripod Socket:

This is a quite light-duty item, but is what I expected and suited my intended use (adding a cold-shoe to a toy plastic camera to hold a small shoe-mount exposure meter) adequately. The plastic base is hollow, except for a bar of plastic through the center to accommodate the tripod thread (just plastic, no metal insert) and the two attaching screws for the metal shoe. One reviewer said the screws were falling out of his sample, but if the one I received is any indication, the Chinese have discovered LocTite. The shoe itself is rather light in construction, with no tension adjustment (if your flash unit has a screw-down safety wheel this is no problem), and I definitely would NOT entrust a heavy, expensive flash unit to it. I would recommend this item only for a non-stressful, occasional-use situation, such as I had in mind.

Comments about General Brand Flash Accessory Shoe with Tripod Socket:

The concept is good: a raised accessory shoe. But the 1/4" threads are made of plastic and after a few uses, they'll be stripped. The metal cold-shoe itself is well built, but it's not securely screwed into the plastic and it wobbles a little. The price is right, the construction poor.

This product is pretty cheap. I fear to use it because it doesn't have a spot for my flash to securely lock to it so it's possible that it could fall off. It's a little wobbly too.

This shoes was a piece of junk. The plastic 1/4-20 threads got stripped the second time I screwed it onto my tripod. I have been meaning to send it back but really do not want to waste the time. I want to tell everyone to never purchase the piece of junk ever. I am getting a second Nikon AS-19 Speedlight Stand instead ( now that they are in stock). These work great for just a little more money.
