The B+W 77mm UV Haze SC 010 Filter is a general use, clear filter that helps to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. No additional coloration or contrast is provided, allowing you to pair this filter with others.
The UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.
B+W filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. They feature a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

What a difference, compared to the cheaper Hoya UV filter I used to have.
I use this for my Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L IS. Very precise and sturdy piece of filter. I cannot detect any degradation of picture quality with this filter. I also own the MRC version (double coating, front and back) of this for another lens (the 24-105 f/4 L IS). I understand that the back coating is intended to minimize reflection from the camera sensor, however for my use, after thousands of shots, I haven't noticed any difference between the two.
Sometimes I have it stacked with a B+W Kaesemann polarizer (if I'm too lazy to take it off before attaching the polarizer) with no problems.
For almost half the price compared to the MRC one, I would get this version if any of mine breaks. Truly excellent value.

Got this to protect the front end of my 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II — I didn't want to get a cheapy UV filter, but didn't want to spend huge money on one, either. So I got this one. It works perfectly so far, and seems to be well-built.

First family outing with my Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 and I take a nerf dart right to the lens. I was able to laugh it off thanks to the B+W UV filter. I always do a UV filter and will continue to do so without fail.

I had my canon 17-40L for almost 8yrs. I used tiffen uv filter as a protection. I recently bought B+W UV haze filter and Wow!!!! My image was 10times better and was much clearer. Even without the polarizing filters that I usually use for the landscape I can have clear blue sky and crisp well focused image.
This is a good investment and now i understand why people recommended good filters

Comments about B+W 77mm UV Haze SC 010 Filter:
I know a fair bit about lenses but not so much about filters. I had it set in my mind to buy a new standard lens thinking that the one I have was terrible.
I like to use dramatic lighting effects both in studio and location. I would always get a lot of ghosting. It suddenly dawned on me that the problem was not the lens, but the filter on the front! As a test, I pointed the lens at the sun and could see a lot more flare with the old filter attached than without it.
Everything looks sharper and clearer with the naked eye! I dont know if it really improves the quality of the lens, but it is a lot better than the old filter. Therefore if you have decent glass, dont ruin it with a bad filter.
I have the same filter on a different lens (5x the price) and there is no flare, but then it is telephoto!
Using a good filter has really given me confidence in using a great lens ruined by a bad filter!

The is a screw in mount the fits well and has enought room for the lens cap to stay on. I purchased a tiffen and the lens cap wuuld not fit. Shortly after purchased another lens slipped from my hand and broke the new filter. No problem with the B+H.
