The 62mm Filter NC (Neutral Clear) from Nikon is a clear (colorless) filter for color as well as black and white films. Also serves as a permanent lens protector. Multi-coated to minimize reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting.
This filter has no affect on the color of your image but will guard against scratches, dust, dirt and fingerprints from contaminating the fine optics incorporated into the lens. The value of such a filter has been well-documented. If you should accidentally break the filter, that's one thing but if you break the front element of your lens, you'll need a new lens. Some people refer to this kind of filter as relatively "inexpensive insurance".
Note! It should be noted that this filter fits the Nikon 85mm 1.8D lens. The Nikon 85mm f/1.8G lens takes a 67mm filter

Comments about Nikon 62mm Filter NC (Neutral Clear):
Not much can go wrong with this quality filter, which I use to protect my 60 mm macro lens. The lens was delivered promptly and was well-packaged. The only slight glitch was that when I unscrewed the lens hood from the lens, the filter detached with the hood, and I didn't realize it until a day later.

Comments about Nikon 62mm Filter NC (Neutral Clear):
I primarily use clear filters to protect the actual lens. Although i still shoot film, I've gone more to digital. Either format is fine for this clear filter. It doesn't do anything to my images, which in this case, is a very good thing! Much, much better to clear granddaughter fingerprints from filter than to get fingerprint oils on the lens at all!

This is my second one of these filters in the last 5years. I'm happy with it for the most part but the glass sits a little loose I between the metal rings.

I keep this filter screwed on my lense all the time. This provides a great protection from scratches and dust. Transparancy is amazing. There is no impact on pics taken with this filter

Comments about Nikon 62mm Filter NC (Neutral Clear):
Nikon's NC filter is clearly the best choice for protecting your pricey glass. Screw the filter on and you will forget it is even there, until something foreign decides to attack your glass and you'll be glad you have it.
