Fun product! I used it to create a basic .jpg timelapse to test it out and was pretty happy with the end result. HOWEVER, it took quite a bit of messing around in photoshop to be happy with the end result, and I use PS DAILY in my job.

Wondering if I would be as happy with the final product if I had shot in RAW, decreased saturation and adjusted the Luminance. I'll keep messing around with it cause I do like learning new things!

I am using this filter on the Canon 6D. You can create some wonderful Infrared photos. I plan to order the Hoya Red Filter. You do have to know how to use this filter on your camera to capture the intense shots with the proper settings. Makes photography fun!

Comments about Hoya 77mm R72 Infrared Filter:

I recently decided to give IR photography a try, just to mix up the usual types of photos I captured. Every article/tutorial I read recommended this filter, and now I know why. With a stock camera, you can capture reflected IR photos that completely change the feeling of a familiar place. You can do either black and white, or use photoshop to mix colors and give the photos a surreal color scheme.I also own a full spectrum modded DSLR that captures even more IR quicker, allowing for more shots per outing. One downside, is that you have to put in some practice before you can get something usable from this. Unprocessed, the images will be mostly red/brown. You will need to have access to something like Adobe Lightroom, and preferably Photoshop as well.

This filter produces great results in B/W which very closely approximate infared film. However, it's performance is not so great in color. Even with much tweaking in Lightroom, I could never get my colors to look like true infared.

I've used this a couple of times since purchase and it works as expected when shooting raw images. Another reviewer mentioned hotspots, the filter seems to be even to me. Though perhaps one tip is in order: since the exposures are going to be long - block the eye piece so that you don't get light leaks from the view finder to the sensor. I would not have thought that would be an issue, but it seems it can be, particularly on full sun no cloud days.

I got this filter to mess around with IR and very impress with the quality of the build. No noticeable hot spot and sharpe throughout the image. If you want to get into IR photography but do not want to convert a camera, this is a great solution.

This filter blocks all visible light, as it is supposed to. This means manual focus before attaching the filter and bulb setting. Make multiple images varying exposure, check histogram. Include images that seem a bit overexposed at first glance; those may be the ones you end up using!

I had been seeing IR photos online and loved them and when I read that in order to do the same a RM72 filter was needed, so I bought one. I have no regrets. Having a wonderful time experimenting with this filter.
Easy to use. Set up the camera on a tripod, dial in settings as though I would be taking a photo with the exposure set at 10 seconds, screw on the filter and fire away! Absolutely love the filter!!

Comments about Hoya 77mm R72 Infrared Filter:

I bought this filter to use with my Canon 5DMkII and it's been producing some great results. The exposures are always very long as the filter is so dark and you need to set the custom white balance accordingly (I set it on a photo of green grass to have the green showing as blues in the final pics) but the final photos are very dramatic and exactly what I was looking for.

I used this with my Pentax K-5. It works pretty well with my K-5. I just wish the internal IR filter in the K-5 was not as powerful so that I could get more of the IR effect. Overall, very happy with my purchase.
