Comments about Canon -4 Diopter E:

I knocked two stars off because it's pretty confusing trying to find out what exactly one should buy. A normal person would assume that this added -4 diopter to the existing viewfinder. Canon says that the viewfinder adjustment on the camera goes from +1 to -4, so this should go to -8 and then it would be usable to me.

But elsewhere I have seen that the designation refers to where the viewfinder will go to with the adapter, in this case -4. But that makes no sense if the viewfinder goes to -4 already.

A different article explained that the viewfinder only did +1 to -1 and that is why there are no -1 or +1 adapters. But of course there are -1 and +1 adapters. That article also talked of being able to combine the adapters to get to higher or lower settings and that is not physically possible.

So? It does change the focus some, not enough for my eyes. So it's pretty obvious that it is not additive OR that the viewfinder adjustment is much smaller than stated (in one article).

So I'm pretty sure it does what it is supposed to do but it's near imposable to find out exactly what it is supposed to do. And Canon is very unhelpful in explaining it all.

IF they just gave a straight forward glasses prescription to correction diopter to use then one could actually buy what you need rather than buying what you think you need and ending up wasting money.

I suspect that my eyesight is too far out for any of their correctors, in which case I wouldn't have bought it in the first place.

I don't like dinging folks for user errors, but in this case there was a heavy assist from bad info from the manufacturer so I feel justified.

If you want to get one of these you should probably go to B&H in person with your camera and try some out because as far as I could find there is no reliable source for finding out which one you need.

Comments about Canon -4 Diopter E:

If you're nearsighted(able to see up close)and you find looking through the viewfinder wearing glasses a hassle, then this is a must have! You'll be amazed how everything through the viewfinder is now in focus without glasses. I showed a woman at work and she went and ordered one for herself. Cons: There are no instructions that come with it but it's suprisingly simple to change the diopter out. I found directions online or I'm sure you can call B&H. Also, the rubber frame from the old diopter will NOT fit on the new one. You have to order that separate. Delivery from B&H was great. You will not be disappointed with this purchase.

Comments about Canon -4 Diopter E:

I photograph without my glasses so I can see the entire viewfinder screen. This diopter allows me to see the full screen sharply and saves wear and tear on my expensive glasses. I purposely bought the diopter too strong so I could use the camera diopter adjustment to fine tune the screen sharpness for my vision.
