Designed for both indoor and outdoor applications, the Control 28 is one of the largest of JBL's indoor/outdoor Control Contractor Series speakers. Ideal for theme park, health clubs, under balcony, parks and restaurants, the Control 28 is easily mounted and highly theft deterrent due to the unique InvisiBall mounting. InvisiBall adds the benefit of vertical rotation of up to 37° off-axis and horizontal rotation of up to 44° off-axis and all adjustments are made from behind the logo badge without having to remove the grill.

Weather resistance is maximized using zinc plated grills to resist rust, a polycarbonate tweeter reinforced with a thin film of titanium for added rigidity and protection against the sun, wind, rain and dust, using WeatherEdge, a seamless, rubberized extension of the woofer adding protection to critical transducer elements.

The Control 28 easily accepts any paint or finish

Comments about JBL Control 28 Speaker - Black (Pair):

Installed 12 pairs of these at local Gym, One might think they were at a night club. Easy to mount and aim. Hidden clamp inside of speaker is great. Just look lose the allen key provided with pair, not too easy to find one as long. The weather proof design, makes them useful in almost any situation.

Comments about JBL Control 28 Speaker - Black (Pair):

The speakers sounded great! I installed 4 speakers in the basement of a fraternity house. The speakers sound great, they are loud, and they should hold up well in that environment.

Comments about JBL Control 28 Speaker - Black (Pair):

This is the second time in the last 10 years I've purchased these speakers for our local community. Both applications were in a small area (100' by 100') and the speakers were great for both PA and backround music. The PA use has no ambient noise, otherwise you would need the bigger set. They have a great, secure mounting method and are easy to remove and install. Deep, rich sound due to the larger size speaker. Will be buying another set for my outdoor patio. Nice they are sold in pairs.

                JBL Control 28 review

                By Lance

                from Seattle, WA

Comments about JBL Control 28 Speaker - Black (Pair):

I bought a pair to use as monitors in a guitar practice (music) room. Not as a replacement for vocal/stage monitors, but just general purpose (to jam along with, work on passages, general listening, etc) and to run my guitar through mixed down on top of jam trax and etc (at sane volumes.)I am very pleased with them. They fit the purpose well, and while not super hi fideility they have also already withstood boo-boos that'd fry more hi fi-ish speakers and at the same time sound much better than floor monitors or cheapish mid-hi+horn setups (particularly in the near/mid field.)The swivel wallmount is a plus as well... Just bolt/screw the thing to a wall at a convenient location (taking into consideration acoustics, of course), and they mount up very quickly.I gave them five stars because I had a pretty good idea what I was getting, had my expectations set right, and they've met my expectations.BTW, I'd say that compared to a lot of the contractor style speakers I've been exposed to in churches, businesses, restaurants, schools, etc, that these will more than hold their own. We're not comparing them to studio monitors, high-priced home stuff, or true pro sound gear, after all. They sound much better than what most restaurants etc spring for, even though they likely cost not much more ($180/each) compared to some of the can-mount and smaller (but just as expensive) mini-box speaks I've been exposed to.These fit a niche and in my estimation and at the price, they do it admirably.

Expertise: Longtime part time pro sound guy and guitarist

Problems Encountered: The only problem I had is that when new, they had some very noticable peaks in their response curves, and given where the peaks were, they were nasally at any volume and harsh at higher volumes.Likewise, the bass response was lackluster (even for a modest 8) out of the box.So, I wired them up to a healthy amp, turned them up a bit, set them face down on the carpet to muffle the noise, and let them break in for about 8 hours. After that they sounded much better, with more bass and more natural bass and the noticable peaks (cone resonances??) gone. I assume it has to do with the surrounds needing to be relaxed/stressed a little and also with the tweeter/driver interacting with the pseudo-horn before breaking as well.
