The Elinchrom Softlite 27" Reflector (White)is a parabolic "Pan" reflector with adjustable deflector shield for eliminating specular light from the flashtube, and re-directing it back into the reflector. It is ideal for portrait and commercial photography where broad, soft, even lighting is required, but has more crispness than a softbox. It includes silver, gold, frosted and white deflectors.

This reflector is an excellent beauty dish. It produces beautifully even lighting with the nice falloff you expect from a beauty dish. The construction is typical Elinchrom, top quality as always. Keep in mind this is a 27" dish so it is quite large and has a little weight to it as a result, so I would recommend a heavy duty light stand and/or a sandbag to keep it from tipping over.

I have no idea what makes this sort of thing so expensive but I guess it's a captive audience. The beauty throws very nice light, it is a bit difficult to keep off the background as the beam is very very wide but once you get the hang of it it's very nice. Note that I have recieved 2 damaged dishes before settling on a "less damaged" one. Elinchrom does a horrible job of packaging donut looks as if most come with dented edges and the speed ring crushed a bit.

This is an extremely wonderful light modifier. If you are seeking something that provides a more punchy light, then should be your choice. With the sock diffuser on the dish, it gives a beautiful softer light. It is large but extremely light weight. I have found that due to its size it is preferable to place it on a boom arm because on a straight light stand can point it down a limited distance.
It includes several colored reflectors (small circles) which provide versatility in the type of light delivered.
Need to be careful when storing it because it will bend. This is a great light for portraits.

I bought this to work with my Ranger RX and my Quadra systems on location shoots. I had been using my 39" Deep Octa but when shooting in high wind areas that softbox acts as a massive sail and makes it difficult, at times, to work with that piece. I needed something a little lighter and less likely to blow my assistant away during a shoot.
This Beauty Dish works really well, produces a fantastic light and has some great throw. But, like all BDs, if you get too far away the light is really harsh on models with blemishes in their skin. I would highly recommend the cloth diffuser Elinchrom sells that augments this reflector. It does make a difference. All in all, this is a great piece that needs to be added to your arsenal of modifiers.

If you have this beauty dish, you must also add this grid: Flashpoint II 20° Grid for 27" Beauty Dish, part number FP2BDG2720. It will complete your dish.
It is a perfect fit diameter, but you will need slight modification of the three mounting clamps, to bend them to curve backwards and wrap around the thick round rim of the elinchrom dish. I stuck a fat pen through it to keep the same roundness on the three clamps, and pressed the clamps backwards.

The light from the beauty dish is soft and yet crisp; perfect for glamour shots. I use it every day in studio and I don't know how to live without it for a day now.
It's big and it would be nice if we have a big bag to hall the dish and the parts around.

I bought the beauty dish to enhance my fashion photography. At first I was overawed by the actual size as my studio is not large but once I started using it I found that even though it throws a very large light it has a beautiful wrap-around quality and creates a great effect.

When I got the box for this dish I was a little taken back by the size of it. At 27 inches it is 5 inches bigger than the Profoto dish I have used in the past, but what it lacks in transportability it more than makes up for with quality of light. It gives you a flattering soft light while maintaining a fairly quick fall-off to sculpt your subject.
I do wish that Elinchrom offered grids and a case for this dish. The lack of those accessories is the only downside I can see.

Comments about Elinchrom Softlite 27'' Reflector (White):
Used primarily for location portraits as a main light, the (included) 4 deflectors help to tailor the output to any given situation.
The size is a bit challenging to travel around with, but is totally worth the results. Exceptional as a high-front, but equally good when flagged from high-to the side.
Has a lip for a grid, but Elinchrom doesn't make one.
Custom 25° grids can be ordered for a reasonable price.

This modifier is great!
Puts out a really nice super soft light, the interchangable deflectors are really good. I wouldnt recommend the gold one though because it bends the light a bit toooo yellow.
NOTE to all Genesis 400 users... this is one of the only modifiers NOT compatible with the Genesis series at this point in time. Maybe later on, but not now. Anything that requires the use of the "modifier hole" or whatever it's called that is in the elinchrom strones, is out of play. I had to purchase some Elinchrom strobes after I purchased this dish! Not mad at all... because the dish is awesome.

I've used the others. Now I've got the best. The beast as we call it is in use on-location and in the studio. We sock it some times and other times we feather it. It is big and I like to deliver it that way. I need full body coverage and this does just that. This unit is well built.
