The Hoya 52mm Circular Polarizer Super-HMC Thin Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.
A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.
This filter features a seven-layer Super-HMC multi-coating, which helps to reduce internal flare and reflections. Thin filters are specifically designed for use with wide angle lenses and do not have front threads for stacking additional filters.

Comments about Hoya 52mm Circular Polarizer Super-HMC Thin Filter:
So far I'm very satisfied with this filter. Hoya filter multicoating consistently performs well in independent tests. I use it primarily for landscapes to darken the sky and add drama. Also good for eliminating reflections when shooting through windows or into water. The slim design makes it easy to stow in a crowded photo bag and reduces the chances of vignetting with short-focal length lenses. As usual, the squareish case provided by Hoya is oversize and clunky. I was able to substitue an earlier, circular one from a different manufaturer that fits the filter more closely.

Comments about Hoya 52mm Circular Polarizer Super-HMC Thin Filter:
I bought this Hoya filter to compliment my Voigtlander 20mm f/3.5 COLOR SKOPAR SL II LENS
I wanted something as high a quality as the lens. I have seen no degradation in quality between the lens alone or with the filter. The filter is super thin. According to the Hoya web site the glass is 1mm thick and the whole filter is 5mm thick. The question of coatings is somewhat of a mystery. According to the official Hoya web site it has seven coatings all on the inside glass. I checked all over the Internet and they were saying that it just has seven coatings. Now why they would put the only seven coatings on the rear glass is beyond me. They talk of some other technology used for the front of the filter. If it is true or not I don't know. However the results are excellent. I have one annoyance with this lens and it is caused by the fact that the lens is so thin for wide angle lenses. It is the rotating metal ring that rotates which causes the polarizer to do its work. It is so thin that I have trouble grasping the thing. It can be done but not with ease. Also, there is no filter screw in the front. It goes with the territory of buying a thin filter at least it comes with a front filter cover that slips on. All and all, like I said this filter complements my lens. My lens is 20mm and 30mm on a FX full frame camera. If I ever one day I get an FX full frame Nikon digital it will again become 20mm and at that focal length a thin filter is imperative. Also the container says : Made by Tokina and also Made in Japan.

Comments about Hoya 52mm Circular Polarizer Super-HMC Thin Filter:
This filter is really thin and well made.
It has several uses, you can increase the blue sky intensity and avoid or emphasize light reflection, usually from water or windows (once I had emphasized reflection from some tree leafs that were under direct sun light).
After the UV filter, this is the one to have in your bag.

Comments about Hoya 52mm Circular Polarizer Super-HMC Thin Filter:
I use this primarily for my shots of clouds and sky, but I have also used it as a 1.5X - 2X ND filter.
It is easy to use, and helps to get those shots always wanted of sky and water.
