Designed for the photographer who wants to carry only one wide-angle lens, when travelling or at home, the AF NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8D Autofocus Lens offers exceptional flexibility, from landscapes to star trails. This standard wide-angle lens has a 74° angle of coverage which will let you capture beautiful portraits, and candids. For getting in close to your subjects you can focus down to 10.2" (259.1mm) to capture images with a dynamic perspective.
Nikon D-type lenses transmit subject-to-camera distance information to the camera. The camera uses this distance information to refine its exposure calculations. The D-type lenses are necessary for many newer Nikon cameras to activate 3D Matrix Metering. G-type lenses also incorporate D technology.

I have gotten so tired of big heavy zooms I went back to the basics. I like zooms they have a place like fixed lenses. But I like fixed better because it forces you to use it as what you bought not just a framing lens. This 28mm is excellent, I have always been a 28 fan because of it's subtle wide-angle perspective on film. When I say I have gone back to the basics, I parked the zoom and got a 16mm 2.8, 20mm 2,8, 28mm 2.8 and a 50mm 1.4. Using a lens for is mm value is fun, slow down and try it.
Not to mention the picture quality it sharp.

I wanted this lens to help with wide angle shots indoors, mainly for weddings/events. Don't get me wrong, the price is great, the lens is built well, and I am happy with my purchase. However, if you're looking to get 'bowled over' by this lens, look elsewhere. I think I've just been spoiled by really high quality Nikon lenses and perhaps expected more than I should've with the 28mm f/2.8D.
I will say I got more than I paid for with this little lens and I will use it often, I just was hoping for something sharper.
A side note: I found it particularly stiff to turn onto my D700.

Comments about Nikon AF NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8D Autofocus Lens:
I've admired another fellow photographers images and she uses theis lens and shoots a bit like me. So far it feelss nice with my D700 grabs fast focus, I haven't used it a lot and this is wide for me. I wanted a more expensive lens(much more) so I am happy I got this for the focal length to work with.

Comments about Nikon AF NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8D Autofocus Lens:
I bought this lens after a lot research. My main objective was to find prime 24mm either 1.8 or 2.8. I opted for the 2.8 and very satisfied. Optically nice on both my D800 and D7000! Sharpest image at 5.6. Thru. F8. Ok wide open, good bokeh, nice color saturation. Lot of CA at ISO 3200 and above. Not a problem for me, I normally shoot no higher than 1600. Bottom line; good wide angle lens, price is right, sharp, autofocus is fairly fast and pretty accurate. Build not up to pro standard but feels sturdy even though made of plastic. If you need a wide angle lens and don't want to spend a lot of $$s...try this glass...you won't be disappointed. Nikon was spot on with this one.

Comments about Nikon AF NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8D Autofocus Lens:
Wanted a simple, small, lightweight everyday wide angle lens - that's exactly what this is. Images are sharp and crisp without a lot of fussing with the lens to get nice images. Yes, there are newer and more expensive lenses out there now, but honestly for the price and the size of this lens it's still a great bargain buy. Works equally great on both full frame and cropped sensor camera bodies. I've not one regret about buying this lens.

we cant all afford a 24mm or 35mm for $1000+ I borrow my friends' gear from time to time. But my 28mm serves as a slightly wider 50mm and i cant go wrong. Fixed glass is great! a superior lens to fit your budget. works great on my d300 and even better on my full frame d700. terrific purchase

Simple inexpensive lens-I took this lens to Key West and found it very useful while I took landscape and travel pictures. Although you have to move around a bit more to compose the shot you want-but that's what you get with a fixed focal lens. Simple and light.

Comments about Nikon AF NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8D Autofocus Lens:
I am an advanced amateur with an occasional paying job. I tend to shoot a lot of indoor Karate action and now it's spring, track action. I have been using the 50mm f1.8 for my indoor karate action but with the crop sensor in my D80 I found it often zoomed me a bit too close to the action at times leading to half cut off images.
I am becoming a prime lens fan so when looking at a wider lens I looked at 35, 24 & 28. I didn't think the 35 would be the width that I was looking for and after reading tons of reviews I decided 28 was wide enough for me.
I have been very pleased with the performance of this lens. It's very snappy focusing (which is saying something on my old D80) and the images have been quite crisp. I found the wider angle has been great for keeping the action in frame and is providing great coverage when shooting close action shots at the track and field events such as long jumping.
Now I just need to save up for my 85mm and I will have my 3 prime length lens collection. I hardly ever touch my original zoom kit lens any more.

I purchased this 28 mm lens to replace one (the same model) that I lost in a swamp. I had taken many great pictures with the previous so did not hesitate to purchase the same one again.
