The AF NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8D Lens from Nikon offers exceptional versatility, from shooting landscapes to cramped interiors to magnificent star trails. This standard wide-angle lens has a 74° angle of coverage on FX format DSLRs and 53° on DX format cameras, which is equivalent to a 42mm focal length in the 35mm format. The lens will also let you capture beautiful environmental portraits, street and documentary style shots and candids. For getting in close to your subjects you can focus down to 10.2" to capture images with a dynamic perspective.

Nikon D-type lenses transmit subject-to-camera distance information to the camera. The camera uses this distance information to refine its exposure calculations. Nikon's Super Integrated Lens Coating improves light transmission and reduces flare and ghosting. Autofocus is not supported by D40, D40x, D60, D3000, D3100, D3200, D3300, D5000, D5100, D5200, D5300 cameras--lens may be used with manual focus only. Be sure to check your camera's lens-compatibility information before selecting a new lens.

Wide-angle lens compatible with both FX and DX format cameras, on DX format cameras it provides a 35mm focal length equivalence of 42mm.
Super Integrated Lens Coating is applied to all lens elements and reduces flare and ghosting.

I have gotten so tired of big heavy zooms I went back to the basics. I like zooms they have a place like fixed lenses. But I like fixed better because it forces you to use it as what you bought not just a framing lens. This 28mm is excellent, I have always been a 28 fan because of it's subtle wide-angle perspective on film. When I say I have gone back to the basics, I parked the zoom and got a 16mm 2.8, 20mm 2,8, 28mm 2.8 and a 50mm 1.4. Using a lens for is mm value is fun, slow down and try it.

Not to mention the picture quality it sharp.

I wanted this lens to help with wide angle shots indoors, mainly for weddings/events. Don't get me wrong, the price is great, the lens is built well, and I am happy with my purchase. However, if you're looking to get 'bowled over' by this lens, look elsewhere. I think I've just been spoiled by really high quality Nikon lenses and perhaps expected more than I should've with the 28mm f/2.8D.
I will say I got more than I paid for with this little lens and I will use it often, I just was hoping for something sharper.
A side note: I found it particularly stiff to turn onto my D700.

Comments about Nikon AF NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8D Lens:

I have this and a Nikon 50mm standard, but this 28mm, I think beats the 50mm in terms of clarity and sharpness. It's great for landscapes and street photography, which I do lot. I'd recommend this to be added in your lens arsenal, considering that it's not an overly priced lens.

Comments about Nikon AF NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8D Lens:

This now outdated design was purchased to provide a relatively high-speed, lightweight original Nikkor lens for a D610 body. It is denigrated as inferior on various websites. However, it is superior in resolution to my Nikkor and off-brand WA zooms which cover 28mm. Nikon is now producing 1.8's for all its WA primes and those are just too expensive for me.

Despite its budget-friendly price, it has met or exceeded my expectations producing sharp, colorful images.
It would be nice if it had Close-Range Correction like the 24mm AIS.

Comments about Nikon AF NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8D Lens:

This lens is a ton is everything I thought it would be. It's sharp considering the price and offers a focal length that looks great on a full frame camera.I only have two gripes with this lens:#1 - It's very plastic. I normally dont mind plastic bodied lenses considering I own quite a few, but dont expect this lens to FEEL like a real lens. It takes great pictures but you have to put your confidence in the image quality and not the weight of the glass.#2 - It's NOISY. I have been spoiled with my stealthy lenses for quiet weddings and I have a feeling this thing will cause some funny looks while Im sitting between aisles during a ceremony. This is a nitpick though and I am sure that it is exaggerated slightly because I am so close to the camera.Either way, worth the money considering it's so cheap. It is a very "normal" focal length so so dont be expecting to be blown away by the wide angle properties it possesses. It's a great focal length for street photos and weddings and that is what I will be using it for.

So far it feelss nice with my D700 grabs fast focus, I haven't used it a lot and this is wide for me. I wanted a more expensive lens(much more) so I am happy I got this for the focal length to work with.

Comments about Nikon AF NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8D Lens:

I bought this lens after a lot research. My main objective was to find prime 24mm either 1.8 or 2.8. I opted for the 2.8 and very satisfied. Optically nice on both my D800 and D7000! Sharpest image at 5.6. Thru. F8. Ok wide open, good bokeh, nice color saturation. Lot of CA at ISO 3200 and above. Not a problem for me, I normally shoot no higher than 1600. Bottom line; good wide angle lens, price is right, sharp, autofocus is fairly fast and pretty accurate. Build not up to pro standard but feels sturdy even though made of plastic. If you need a wide angle lens and don't want to spend a lot of $$s...try this glass...you won't be disappointed. Nikon was spot on with this one.

Comments about Nikon AF NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8D Lens:

Wanted a simple, small, lightweight everyday wide angle lens - that's exactly what this is. Images are sharp and crisp without a lot of fussing with the lens to get nice images. Yes, there are newer and more expensive lenses out there now, but honestly for the price and the size of this lens it's still a great bargain buy. Works equally great on both full frame and cropped sensor camera bodies. I've not one regret about buying this lens.

we cant all afford a 24mm or 35mm for $1000+ I borrow my friends' gear from time to time. But my 28mm serves as a slightly wider 50mm and i cant go wrong. Fixed glass is great! a superior lens to fit your budget. works great on my d300 and even better on my full frame d700. terrific purchase
