Product Highlights
  • Helps to Eliminate Reflections and Glare
  • Reduces Haze and Blue Cast in Landscapes
  • Greater Color and Tonal Saturation
  • Slim-Line Mount for Wide Angle Lenses
  • Lightweight Aluminum Filter Ring
  • High Quality Schott Glass

The B+W 62mm Circular Polarizer Slim Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

B+W filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. The slim filters are specifically designed for use with wide angle lenses and are only 0.2" / 5mm thick. They do not have front threads for stacking additional filters.

Note: This filter ring's outside diameter is slightly larger than the actual thread size, and because of this you may be unable to attach the lens manufacturer's bayonet-mounted lens hood to the lens while using this filter. This is dependent on your specific lens and how thick the front rim of the lens is; with thinner, low-profile lenses usually being affected more.

Helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface.
Polarizing filters arrange, and filter, directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of the light.
Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° from the sun.
Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.
Constructed from high quality Schott glass for optical clarity.
Lightweight, slim aluminum filter ring measures 5mm thick to help reduce vignetting.

I bought this polarizer to use on my "all-purpose" lens, and 18-200mm that I favor on back country hiking trips. A lot of landscape photos, set at a wide-angle 18mm. I was concerned with vignetting at that focal length, which is why I chose this thin filter. So far, it's performed flawlessly - I was expecting there to be some vignetting at 18mm, no matter what, but I have had none. The only complaint, and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5, is that the lens cap that must be used when this filter is attached does not stay on. It fell off multiple times, with the camera slung over my shoulder, and walking on flat, stable ground.

      naked filter on lens

I love polarizing filters as I photograph outdoors in harsh light very frequently, and I like the gently nuanced range of tones I can get with the polarizer in these conditions.

I love polarizing filters as I photograph outdoors in harsh light very frequently, and I like the gently nuanced range of tones I can get with the polarizer in these conditions.

I got this one for a new, wide lens but wouldn't really recommend this model. The 'slim' design does not permit use of a lens cap. It comes with a little cap, but this seems to be designed only for use inside the case, as it drops off the filter when the camera is in motion (like, being carried around in one hand looking for another shot). So, one's choices are to either take the filter off every single time when done shooting for the moment and moving to a new spot, or to let it hang 'naked' and unprotected. I don't like either of those options and am quite disappointed that, for this price, one doesn't get a cap which permits the filter to be protected on the lens.

In terms of the quality of B&W filters, I myself don't actually see the difference with the cheaper filters I was using in the past.

Comments about B+W 62mm Circular Polarizer Slim Filter:

This is an absolute necessity with my 16-105 lens. Anything below 20-25mm will have vignettes with a stander polarizer.

One user commented that the standard lens cap won't stay on. True. There are not threads on the front. I think that is necessarhy to keep the lens thin.

I am used to an orientation mark on polarizers. This one has no mark or dot. However, the B&W logo appears to be in the location where the mark should be. At least on mine so that may be a tip to check out.

I bought this filter because I was trying to take pictures of a car, and the reflections on the windows were really distracting. This filter reduced the reflections enough to allow me to take some nice pictures. This filter is thin, and I could not see any vignetting even when zoomed to 18mm. Being so thin there are no threads on the front of the filter, so my lens cap, which engages those threads, does not fit. Luckily, a lens cap comes with the filter, so I guess that is OK. I'm pretty happy with the filter.

Comments about B+W 62mm Circular Polarizer Slim Filter:

I'm not a professional photographer or even a hobbiest, but I am someone that loves a good photo. We could not believe the difference that this polarized filter makes when taking pictures at the beach. As much as the on-line comparison photos attempt to display the "with filter" and "without filter" images, the real images are even better.

Comments about B+W 62mm Circular Polarizer Slim Filter:

I've been very pleased with the performance of this filter. The slim design helps it "play" well with other filters without causing vignetting, and the action of the rotating portion is very smooth. The quality of the glass seems to be superb; haven't noticed any problems with flaring or ghosting. The threads are precision-milled, so it's easy to put on and take off. All told, a superb filter. Very pleased with my purchase!

Comments about B+W 62mm Circular Polarizer Slim Filter:
