Comments about Manfrotto Mini Salon 190 Camera Stand:

I'm a big fan of Manfrotto, so I was excited to receive this camera stand. The first one arrived but was missing the bolt that attaches the column to the base and the screws that hold the accessory tray in place. B&H referred me to Manfrotto's US distribution center for the missing pieces. After a week of back and forth emails, here is what Manfrotto told me: The screws for the accessory tray are not a separate item. I would have to purchase a new accessory tray for about 50 bucks to get the screws. The bolt is not available in the US, but they were checking with Italy (the company headquarters) to see how much it would cost to ship me the bolt, or I could return the stand to B&H. I begged the parts guy for the specs on the bolt and screws, so I could just pick them up at a local hardware store, but he said he didn't have access to that information. I called B&H, and as usual, their customer service was great. They apologized for my troubles, paid for the return shipping, and sent me a new camera stand. The second stand had a piece of metal broken off the top cap of the column, and it too was missing the bolt that holds the whole thing together. The base is shipped in a separate box surrounded by molded styrofoam. In both cases, the styrofoam had been broken into many pieces during shipping. I don't think Manfrotto has figured out how to reliably ship this heavy product, and their inability to include (or be able to quickly replace) a simple bolt is ridiculous. While I would have really liked to use this stand, after hauling two of them to the UPS store for returns, I didn't have the stamina to try ordering it a third time.
For those wanting to use this stand for tethered shooting, here are the accessories B&H recommended for me (using a 13" laptop): Manfrotto MA183 Aluminum Projector Platform and Manfrotto MA840 Camera Support Platform.

Comments about Manfrotto Mini Salon 190 Camera Stand:

During assembly certain screws were stripped and too short. Luckily a local machine shop fixed the problem for $35.00. Manfrotto USA could not replace the part for four weeks. Quality control needs improvement.

            Used for studio product shots.

May not be the most exciting equipment in the studio, but it does a very important job and performs very well. Stable, steady, and easy to adjust with a wide range of motion.

            Very highly recommended.

Comments about Manfrotto Mini Salon 190 Camera Stand:

This Manfrotto stand once assembled appears to be quite solid and a good value. You may say to yourself, that for[$] it should be however, once you realize that the prices of Camera Stands can soar way north of $20,000.00, it puts in better perspective. My gripe with the stand is that NO ONE, either at Manfrotto or anywhere else, appeared to have any knowledge of the assembly of the unit. This would normally have been very simple and straight forward EXCEPT that both stands I received, had the Pulley Cable OFF the Pulley and threaded in the wrong direction. Even this could be rectified fairly easily IF someone had told me to lay the column level horizontally before trying to arrange the cable and pulley. In its normal upright position, I found any adjustment impossible. Not being terribly mechanical, it took me a while to understand the concept, and realize I had to neutralize the weight of the heavy balance inside the Column. Once perfectly level, the balance was no longer "fighting" the Cable and Pulley. Remove the Pulley, face it so that the Cable faces in the CORRECT direction and there you have it.When purchasing ANYTHING, if adjustments are required, manufacturers should have the obligation of supplying simple, clear, and concise instructions for same. Apparently, very few can be bothered.
