A speed ring is required and not included with this unit. Remember to get the best type of speed ring for the light you are using. If you plan on using it with multiple lights we recommend the adjustable speed ring.
This is a Photoflex LiteDome Q39, Medium Softbox , 24 x 32 x 17" (61 x 81 x 43cm) . Photoflex makes a wide variety of softboxes for use on your strobes or hotlights. LiteDomes and MultiDomes are for use with strobes only. SilverDomes and HalfDomes may also be used with hotlights. All Photoflex softboxes require a Speed Ring Adapter, which must be purchased separately.
Choose a softbox according to the size of your subject. For example, a small or extra small is appropriate for a head-and-shoulders portrait, or a very small still-life such as a paperweight. A medium softbox is good for a half-length portrait of an adult. A large is suitable for a group portrait of 3 - 4 people.
Choose a softbox interior color for the lighting effect you want. White is the most universal, giving the most softening effect. Silver gives a little more punch and crispness. Gold (with the MultiDome only) adds that punch, with a warmer tone.
Note:Provide ample ventilation when using flash heads that have modeling lights. Do not use a modeling light higher than 300 watts with a LiteDome or MultiDome.

Good size and dimensions for a medium sized softbox.
The construction is perfectly acceptable but certainly could be better. If it were made from the same materials as their 7' octabox it would probably be slightly heavier but I could handle the trade off for durability.
The small clips that fasten the internal diffuser to the softbox are a pain. They're fiddly and take too long to clip on. Velcro would've been better
It's very efficient though, with an even distribution of light. It does it's job well and at the end of the day that's really what matters most.

I am doing this review objectively starting with 5 stars the deducting for a few flaws ....This SB is under $100 and is very good value for money with the light it produces, it is lightweight and it stores very easily....The things I don't like, The material does not cover the speedring completely (you get some light exiting here, the speedrings are expensive and the Alloy on the ends of the rods can bend/crimp very easily where the go into the holes on the speedring, I assembled mine as per the instructions and they bent while pulling the cover over the rods.

Impressed with the build of this box, nice quality.
Nice even lighting for table top product shots. This replaced my larger Chimera that had become yellowed with age (20+ years old). Loved my Chimera and was a little afraid I'd be disappointed with anything less, but this LiteDome is top notch, I'm very pleased.

It took a long time to arrive, but it was exactly what I was lookng for with the exception of, I thought I was buying two liteDome's and only received one. That is my error. If I had known, I could have gotten it from a local dealer for cheeper.

I ordered 2 of these light domes for the backdrop lights for a large event on white for a Dance School.
These softboxes ensured an excellent even and seemless light on the white backdrop.
They were easy to set up and break down and are very durable.

I used this softbox for my key light with a canon 580EX II, the results are outstanding. Beautiful diffused light for portraits. Also have the xs- small one and I mostly used that one for hair light. Planning to get the Large one for full portrait.

In combination with a 150/sec. Watt monolight
I use it for product photography.
I admit I has a little trouble with putting it together, but now it would be easy.
The old saying holds true, it gets better after

What made me buy this product was its very light, no pun intended, material. Compared to what i've been using before, this photoflex softbox weighs almost nothing.
and the quick release feature is heaven sent.

Excellent Quality and Durability. Easy to work with and a great size for most occasions. The Litedome provides an very soft and pleasing light on the subject. Construction is very sturdy and like all softboxes takes 1-2 minutes to setup. Can be tricky at the start but after a few times it is quite easy to setup. The manual the unit came with was a little confusing but if you use common sense and look at the pictures it isn't too hard. Overall a great product and good value for money.

I purchased this softbox to use with my product studio setup. I have this box attached to an Alien Bee 1600. I love Photoflex products as they are a great value, easy to setup and are very durable. I now have about 7 of these all different sizes and have yet to have one break or lose quality. Highly recommended if you do any product shooting

Nice size. I use it mostly with shoe mount flashes. I found that I had to use the wide angle dispersion lens on my Canon 580 EX flash to eliminate the hot spots. Once I figured that out it gives nice soft light. Easy to assemble once I read the little note about the the Velcro quick release feature. Light weight and easy to carry.

Comments about Photoflex LiteDome Q39, Medium Softbox , 24x32x17" (61x81x43cm):
I bought this softbox for use with small speedlites, my 580ex and 430ex— and I'm glad I did. The results are quite nice, with a uniform spread of light when I zoom the speedlite's head out to 24mm or even 14mm with the built in diffuser. At first, it was awkward to set up. After practicing a few times, it becomes very simple. I now get the entire rig up and on a light stand in under two minutes.
Quality materials and craftsmanship are what attracted me to this brand. I own a few of their products and everything is very sturdy and professional-looking. I'll continue to buy their products because I think they provide a good value/quality.

Have wanted a softbox for a long time and finally settled on this model. So far I'm happy with the quality of the light I'm getting from it. The construction is good while still being very lightweight. It's not too hard to put together, but getting the rods out of the speedring when I'm breaking the unit down is like trying to pull a nail out of a board with my fingers. Maybe it's one of those things that just takes practice to figure out the technique. All in all, a good product.
