This is a Photoflex SilverDome NXT, Large Softbox , 36 x 48 x 25" (91 x 122 x 64cm) . Photoflex makes a wide variety of softboxes for use on your strobes or hotlights. LiteDomes and MultiDomes are for use with strobes only. SilverDomes and HalfDomes may also be used with hotlights. All Photoflex softboxes require a Speed Ring Adapter, which must be purchased separately.
Choose a softbox according to the size of your subject. For example, a small or extra small is appropriate for a head-and-shoulders portrait, or a very small still-life such as a paperweight. A medium softbox is good for a half-length portrait of an adult. A large is suitable for a group portrait of 3 - 4 people.
Choose a softbox interior color for the lighting effect you want. White is the most universal, giving the most softening effect. Silver gives a little more punch and crispness. Gold (with the MultiDome only) adds that punch, with a warmer tone.
Note:Provide ample ventilation when using flash heads that have modeling lights. Do not use a modeling light higher than 300 watts with a LiteDome or MultiDome.

The end result was awesome, but setting up this product was no easy task. The directions are unclear on exactly how to assemble, and the photos are not as helpful as you might hope. Be patient during the assembly and the final use of the light will be awesome!

Super cool stuff. However, be careful while assembling, because the rods can malformed after several times of usage.

Comments about Photoflex SilverDome NXT, Large Softbox , 36x48x25" (91x122x64cm):
I owned lots of Photoflex softboxes that I bought many years ago, stopped using them mostly due to needing tungsten for video, and just using that for still as well. The old Photoflex boxes were poor copies of Chimeras and over time the materials broke down.
This new box is completely diffent, well made, metal rods, nice adjusters for the rods, nice heavy material, vents...just a much better build quality. I bought this large, then a smaller one as well. Might pick up another large.
The machined aluminum speedrings are also very well made and fit my Lowell lights perfectly. I got three different rings for DP, Omni, and Tota.
Kind of wish I had bought these a few years ago.

For the price and compared to it's competitors, this softbox is a tremendous value. It offers versatility with removables faces and it gives the user man combinations of options when using different fronts combined with interior baffles. My advice, stock up on removable fronts and at least two interior baffles to give you more options. The grid is essential. they are not cheap but worth every penny. I use mine with a 2K Mighty Mole Richardson open face. A fantastic large source that puts out the best light you have ever seen. The freedom to mix and match fronts and baffles gives me tons of freedom and with the lights scrims fugettaboutit!!Insane gorgeousness. Anyone who uses this box should have a 2K open face source blasting thru it.

I found tis softbox to put out a lot of light. Its size works well. I also think to get the most from it you need the grid to better direct and smooth the light.

Other than the fact that it was initially a little confusing to set up, I LOVE this softbox! I am using "hotlights" for now, but wanted more of the clarity I have observed from other types of lighting. This softbox has made ALL of the difference. I now get GORGEOUS clarity and color in my infant/child portraits, with a lovely "catchlight" in the eyes. And with both the inner and outer baffle things in place, the heat output is really NOT bad. I can use it for a 90 minute session in a small studio and not get too hot. I absolutely LOVE this softbox -- it has been worth every penny!!!

This soft box is easy to assemble and use. Its construction is sturdy. I have had no difficulty working with it. The only thing I do not like about this soft box is the way the inner diffuser attaches to the frame. It is difficult to remove and reattach. I think the manufacturer could have designed a better mechanism.
