Comments about Matthews Hollywood Beefy Baby Steel Stand:

These things are amazing. I doubt you'll find a stronger, sturdier or more stable light stand. They're great quality, very well made and I can see why Matthews is (apparently) the brand of choice in Hollywood.

It's very easy to adjust the height of each riser and then tighten the knob back up with quick a twist of the wrist.

Of course they're heavy - before ordering them I went to a sports store and lifted 6kg worth of weights to get an idea. But heavy is just what you want to support large modifiers and lights, especially outdoors where there's any sort of breeze. In a stronger breeze I'd still use a sandbag or boa weight, just to be sure.

If I had to find a fault? They're not air-cushioned - you need to take some care when loosening the knobs so the columns don't come down too hard, or onto your fingers, but that's no hardship really.

I think these will last me forever. Highly recommended if you want something heavy-duty.

The standard for a burly, heavy duty stand. Plays well with the baby boom. Highly recommended.

Comments about Matthews Hollywood Beefy Baby Steel Stand:

Even though my largest lights are 1K . It is strong enough to get a high rise safe enough without sand bags. You can also hang multiple 2 or 3 hundred watt lamps with a arm and a maffer.

Comments about Matthews Hollywood Beefy Baby Steel Stand:

I use 2 of these stands to hold my Westcott 6x6 foot frame. The 5/8" stand receptor will lock onto a grip head and the Wescott frame holding stud really well. The size and weight of this stand may seem a bit excessive to some, but in the pro video world, this is just the common workhorse stand. The steel construction of the legs with double bars supporting them from the center column provides a lot of stability when the stand is extended with a light or some rigging attached to it. It is a great tall stand and can easily be sand bagged for stability outside. As always, Matthew products are built to last, and if taken care of, this stand can last a lifetime!
