I've included quite a few measurements in this review, sinceI carefully considered these factors before ordering thebag. My goal: A small, discreet, conveniently designed,well-made bag that would carry my camera gear along with afew small personal items. Mission accomplished with thisbag! If you have similar equipment, you'll probably lovethis bag.I ordered the optional one-compartment 3 x 6 x 8 insert, and my Nikon D80 SLR with lens attached rides on its back inthe insert. The zoom lens is rather large -- 4 from camerabody to filter when fully retracted. The optional insert made a big difference in my enjoyment ofthe bag. It's easier to slip the camera in and out, and thecamera receives extra protection without the bag becomingtoo bulky. Also, for some reason, the bag now stands up onits own. Before, it tended to need to be propped up againstsomething. I stash a flash in the 3 x 4 x 8 insert that came with thebag, but it would be fine for a couple of lenses if youdon't mind stacking items. The flash, which is 3-1/2 x 2 x6-1/2 inches, also fits in one of the front pockets butjust barely. I personally wouldn't carry the flash in thefront pocket because I prefer the more spacious feel, easeof access and extra protection of the insert, but it'sdoable. The two inserts fit well within the bag, but perhaps notperfectly. Together, they might be about 1/2 too long.Perhaps it's by design, but they fold just a little. It'snot bothersome. They have kind of molded themselves to theshape of the equipment. Domkes inserts are clever, and Iappreciate the way you can remove them with contents intactand can remove the individual foam paddings from whateversides you want. The bag's pockets have plenty of room to carry small itemssuch as filters, a wallet, a couple of manuals or magazines, etc. There are hooks on each side -- handy for carrying anextra pouch for more gear or even lunch. The bag has aplastic bar that runs the length of the top flap; I supposeit helps keep everything in place. One of the main reasons I chose this particular bag is thatit's very discreet. It doesn't look like a camera bag atall, and the Domke logo is hidden under the main flap. The construction quality and materials appear to be superb.I've owned another canvas Domke bag for about 25 years. Iteven went through several years of professional use, and itstill looks and functions great. It doesn't appear thatDomke has scrimped on quality over the years.

Problems Encountered: As reviews elsewhere mention, the main hook is somewhatdifficult to open and close. Domke says this is to make itmore pilfer-proof, and it probably does. After I used thebag for a few weeks, either I got used to it or it loosenedup a bit. Still, I'd prefer an easier hook and haveconsidered replacing it.

I also own a Domke F4 which is a great bag for full size cameras. But i wanted a Domke for going to work to carry a Lumix and a sandwich. The F803 is great for that. I was using a Timbuk2 Snoop camera S messenger but I hated how stiff the bag is and the rigid nylon strap. I wanted a Domke with a small flexible strap, so the 803 is much better in that dept. I ordered the FA-230 also and that really sucks up the space. The std insert is ok as is for me. I may put the 230 in later for other outings but for daily trip to work the std setup is perfect. i dont mind the buckle on the F4 but it really sucks on this bag, JMHO. Velcro would be better.

Comments about F-803 Camera Satchel Shoulder Bag (Olive Drab):

I agonized for quite a while on what bag to get. The options are literally endless.
Was seeking one for a medium-sized DSLR, flash and 2 small lenses - I use separate bags for larger lenses.
My Canon 70D with (usually) a 35 2.0 IS, Canon 10-18 and 85 1.8 (stacked on top of each other) and 430EXII flash all fit with utter perfection. Plus, there's the perfect number of pockets and zippers for the necessary accessories.
It's a tight fit, but I love the size. Highly recommended for when traveling light.
      Extraordinary bag.

Comments about F-803 Camera Satchel Shoulder Bag (Sand):

I looked for a smaller and compact bag after the excellent F6, which I have been using since 2007.
The F803 is perfectly right for my rangefinder kit wit two bodies and three or four lenses and the usual stuff which comes along. It's new and stiff but it will become softer with the use. I added the fitting two-compartment insert and it works really well.
A smaller bag is less bulky and I also carry less stuff, which I do not use anyway.
I do not understand the function of the ring and buckle at the sides.
After (still) loving the F6 I love this one, too.

I've ben using a sand Domke F6 for a decade now. It's discoloured, I substituted the strap but it's still excellent. Now I have this new one, which is smaller but looks perfect for my Leica outfit. Domke products are perfect and I love to use them.

Comments about F-803 Camera Satchel Shoulder Bag (Black):

Fantastic bag. Using with Sony A7 outfit and three lenses. Tried other bags, but most of those designed specifically for mirrorless sacrificed functionality for compact size. I found trying to squeeze everything in a small bag very restrictive. This bag offers more depth than many small bags, but because of its slim profile, its feels like you're carrying a smaller bag. In fact, I bought a domke f10 at the same time, which is also great, but even though it's a smaller bag, it doesn't fit as close to the body, so in some ways it feels more cumbersome to me. I still have the f10, but I use the 803 almost exclusively. Plenty of room for accessories. Has the handle on top, which makes it easy to grab. And best of all, you can mount a long lens/lens with a hood and you don't have to remove it in order to put your camera back in the bag. That's not possible with a bag that's only 6" high. And of course, it doesn't look like a camera bag, which is also great. Cons? I'd like it if it had an interchangeable strap. I added a timbuk 2 chest strap to keep it from sliding around when riding my bike; it would have been nice if that was included. I did not buy the three compartment insert, but instead used the single insert for one lens, and positioned it so I could carry the camera with one lens pointed down in a larger area, and put my third lens in the remaining space on the far side of the insert. Although there's no padding except on the bottom, the canvas is thick, and I feel like short of dropping the bag from a significant height, my gear is adequately protected. And if there was more padding, the slim profile would not be possible. The outside front pockets don't hold much, but they're good for a pen, voice recorder, etc. The large front pockets are great for batters, filters, etc. Great, simple design. Highly recommended.

Comments about F-803 Camera Satchel Shoulder Bag (Sand):

This is the best bag I've found for my XPro1 and a few lenses. I already had a black one and always wanted the sand colour. However I notice Domke have made a couple of design changes compared to my old example.

              (1) The main strap appears to be slightly lighter weight yarn in the weave that may cut into shoulder a little more if you're carrying a bit of weight in the bag. Probably not an issue for me.

              (2) The buckle where the main strap is attached to the strap sown around the bag has been changed to a single loop from the previous double loop. The double loop one was a bit wider which meant the angle the bag was at on your shoulder/back had a little more wriggle room to sit snuggly against you. The new arrangement results in more stress being placed on the stitching where the strap is sown on. My new bag is already showing signs of the stitching being pulled but it remains to be seen if this will worsen over time. Probably easily repaired if it does but would have preferred Domke used the double loop buckle.

Ok I'm being picky, this is still a great bag.

Comments about F-803 Camera Satchel Shoulder Bag (Black):

This bag is especially good due to its low profile shape. It can be worn comfortably over the shoulder, and remains bulk-free. I use it to carry 3-4 compact, rangefinder/mirrorless cameras (with lenses). The pocket on the back is also suited for carrying a small book or iPad/tablet. Overall, it feels durable and well-constructed.

This is one of the best satchel type camera bags you can buy. It is small enough to go anywhere and yet it is suitable for carrying a range of camera gear. I bought my first F-803 back in 15-years ago and more recently I have bought another two; one is for my wife's video kit, the other is for my Hasselblad kit. The bag can also be use as a laptop bag or for a small SLR kit. Highly useful and highly recommended.

I have a mirrorless camera and I was looking for a smaller bag. I have arthritis and can no longer carry the bigger, heavier bags. I like to travel and it carries everything I need without all the weight. I also like how it looks. You can't really tell it is a camera bag and I feel safer and not as worried about someone stealing it.

Comments about F-803 Camera Satchel Shoulder Bag (Olive Drab):

I've been shooting since the early 70's, have owned lots of bags but keep coming back to Domkes. This bag was purchased to carry my Fuji XE-1, X100s, and Xf lenses 55-22 , 35 and 14mm. A lot more comfortable to carry and inconspicuous than my Billingham Hadley Small. I don't want to carry any more than this will hold. It molds to my hip and is easy to work out of, most bags are just too bulky.

A great little satchel that won't hit every seat as you make your way down the airline aisle. People who obsess over padded protection won't like these canvas bags but I've never had a problem.

In my configuration, I put a Nikon D7000 with short zoom, speedlite SB-800, 2 primes stacked in the movable compartment, filters in the front bag pockets and an iPad in the back pocket. The D7000/lens sits sort of cocked diagonal in the open space and I have the padded divider moved next to it and the flash is a tight fit next to that. The SB-800 will fit in one of the outside pockets but I didn't want the bag to bulge any wider than necessary. As someone else said, not sure why some colors cost more than others. Ask the Domke Marketing dept.

Looking for the Domke website I found that it is within the Tiffen site. It's a confusing website if you're looking for easy listing and views of the different bags. You'll get better pictures, views and descriptions on the B&H site.

Comments about F-803 Camera Satchel Shoulder Bag (Sand):

This is my first Domke bag but certainly not my last. It's a tiny bit smaller than I thought it was going to be but this not a problem as its neat size makes it look smart and snazzy, while remaining very functional. I'm 6'3" and I find the strap is long enough. An extra couple of inches would have been nice for room to move but not essential. The finish is very pleasing to the touch and it feels very durable. I'm actually using it more as a man-bag than a gear bag at the moment so the lense padding that came with tbe bag makes a great water bottle/thermos comparment. The front pockets are nice and deep but the ones on the flap are a litte tight. Good for cards, keys and a cell phone though.A couple of little pouches inside the main pouch would have been good for pens and bits and pieces but you can always add the removable pouches that are sold separately. The most important thing is that my wife likes it. She's a very stylish lady and didn't want me carrying a camera bag around for day to day business but she thinks it looks very cool and smart. Phew. Thanks Domke! All in all a great little all purpose bag that has already earnt some nice compliments from friends. I'll definitely get a Domke again, only next time I'll go a bit bigger so I can fit my laptop in as well.

Perfect size for small camera (ie. Sony DX-7 or rangefinder), w/2-3 lenses and a flash. Tough, waterproof canvas, discrete. Zip pocket for filters/extra chips, etc. Two outer velcroed pockets, covered by flap, can hold notebook, glasses, phone. OK, common complaint, the front buckle is clumsy. And no padding on bottom. But it comes w/Domke padded insert and other Domke touches, like the gripper strap going all the way around the bag and compatible w/Domke line of inserts.

I bought this to carry lenses on photo shoots instead of carrying big backpack of equipment. Best for when you are carrying your camera on a shoot and need quick access to extra lenses.

Comments about F-803 Camera Satchel Shoulder Bag (Black):

I've always been a fan of Domke products, in particular the F-802 bag, which functions just as well as an everyday messenger bag as well as one that can easily carry a full DSLR setup and fairly big lenses. But after adding a Fuji XE1 mirrorless to my setup, I needed a smaller bag for the occasions when I did not need to haul all the glass along - and the F-803 fits perfectly. All of the benefits of the F-802 bag which I know and love, in a smaller, lighter size. It accomodates the camera, a number of lenses (depending on the size, but mirrorless have smaller lenses compared to the big L glass) and the back pocket will accept a full-sized iPad.

This bag is great for carrying around a small camera kit without it looking like a camera bag. I usually use it for a small MFT kit and a Ricoh GRD IV or a film camera. It has big pockets for film, batteries, etc.

One thing that I don't like it the hook/clip on the front because I often need two hands to open or close it properly.
