I don't know why you would need to pay any more for an optical cable. I would have used the one that came bundled with a cheap sound card I bought about 5 years ago, but I seem to have lost it. I ordered this to connect my aunt and uncle's PS3 to their new receiver. Ends snap in securely and sound is clean. What more could you want?

I had never seen a fiber optic cable for home theater before. This one came with small translucent caps over the ends, but they looked like they were part of the connector and I spent several frustrating minutes trying to figure out why they wouldn't insert easily into my equipment. I could squeeze one end into my TV and see light coming out the other end, but apparently it wasn't bright enough. Finally I looked at close-up pictures on the Internet and figured out that the caps needed to be removed. After that, the cable seems to be working fine in spite of my less-than-gentle treatment.
Problems Encountered: The box should instruct the user to remove the weird end caps before use.
