Comments about QuikLok Z-726L Two Tier "Z" Stand Extra-wide Keyboard Stand:

I've bought and used several different keyboard stands over the years, including the classic Quik-Lok X-type stand, as well as the original A-Frame stands, and the Ultimate Apex pillar stands. I have to say the Quik Lok 'Z' model provides the best features, stability, leg-room, that the others lacked, albeit with the compromise being ease of set-up. This is definitely the type of stand for the studio, as it takes some time to assemble. Since my goal was to find a functional rock-solid, two-tier stand that would hold a heavy 88 note (in this case, a 76 lb Yamaha pf80) at piano level, and a 61 or 76 note keyboard on the second tier, the Z726L proves to be the best stand I have ever owned for a large rig. This keyboard sports similar hardware to hold a top keyboard that you will find on the older fold-up X style stand. My last stand, in fact, was the heavy-duty QuikLok X, and while nice and stable and easy to fold up, was never quite the right height (too low or too high) and never failed to bang up my shins while sitting down. The Z-726L is plenty wide, and roomy underneath, and adjusts perfectly to standard piano height at the lowest setting (with the silver tab recessed). My research indicated that even at the lowest advertised setting, the top of the keys would be very close to the level of a Steinway grand. In fact, it came out to just under 29 inches.

A couple of assembly tips if you plan to use the stand at the absolute lowest setting: The adjustable Z sides are pre-assembled, and you will hear some parts sliding around inside (it's a plastic stop). Take them apart before adding the middle crossbar, otherwise the plastic part will slide down to the very bottom of the inner rail. When you take it out, you will see it has a rounded notch, that will sit on the midway bolt to protect the threads should you drop the top bar hard to the lowest setting. In mine they were turned around opposite, fitting inside the steel bar of the upper. The lowest setting useful for my needs, was achieved by pushing the tab in on the bottom-most hole in, and letting the stand bottom out, (this is why you want to put the plastic stop in the right way). This stand looks a lot more sleek with the silver tab hidden anyway, as the adjustment holes are on the facing side. Once you get the included foam strips on the top, the height is just perfect for sit-down playing. And speaking of the adhesive strips, that was the only thing that was a problem with this unit, because the adhesive on both strips had already dried out. Luckily I had some double-sided tape, and applied a couple strips to each backside to complete the set-up. I also noticed that there was plenty of room to install the vertical rails on the upper tier on inner side of the back cross-rail, (closest to the back of the main keyboard) moving the top keyboard a full two inches closer without having to adjust the "tubes". With the bars in the inside position, the round tightening grips are hidden under the bottom of the keyboard, making the stand even cleaner looking from the front side.

I'm very happy with this stand, I wish that Quik-Lok had made this product years ago. The money I saved through B&H was also one of the best things about this buy.

A note about the picture above: The upper tier hardware is slightly different than shown. Even on the Quik Lok website the stand is assembled the reverse way, from that shown in the included instructions. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I assembled it via the instructions, and it looks nicer sweeping back, than towards the player.

Comments about QuikLok Z-726L Two Tier "Z" Stand Extra-wide Keyboard Stand:

I use this stand for a rather hefty keyboard, and it has no wobble at all. However, it's not quite as portable as I had hoped. You have to turn plenty of knobs and screws to set it up, and the Z shaped pieces don't really fit into a stand bag due to their awkward shape.

I highly recommend the casters. It's nice not to have to ask anyone for help when they ask you to relocate.

A Very Sturdy and Substantial Stand

Comments about QuikLok Z-726L Two Tier "Z" Stand Extra-wide Keyboard Stand:

This is one of the better designed Z stands available. It seems strong enough to handle the heaviest keyboards. The 2nd tier is strong enough for a heavy keyboard. It can be adjusted in height, depth and side to side. The 2nd tier is also mounted on a slider bar and independent of the legs so it can be offset to a side if that works better for your needs. The height of the base is adjusted with various holes and a spring backed pin rather than having to deal with screwing knobs. Take care to notice the dimensions. The footprint may be larger than suits you. The height of the bottom keyboard may not go low enough for your needs depending on the keyboard. The stand does not disassemble into a compact size, the legs are welded and retain the Z form and it is heavy for portability.

Comments about QuikLok Z-726L Two Tier "Z" Stand Extra-wide Keyboard Stand:

I use a stage piano on the bottom tier and a synth on the top tier. I'm very fussy about the stage piano being very sturdy while playing it hard, I've tried a lot of stands and this really passes my tests with flying colors. While it does have the slightest amount of wobble, its only when you really push it on purpose. It makes playing on my stage piano feel very solid, and the Z shape allows so much more space for legs / pedal use than the X stands I've used in the past. The 2nd tier is also amazing due to how easy it is to slide the position of it from left to right and tighten the large knobs once you're happy. It also allows you to move the 2nd Tier far up and back enough that it doesn't interfere with the bottom tier. Whether its a skinny or wide unit on the top, this 2nd tier has you covered, and is also very solid. Overall this stand has a nice clean design, feels sturdy to play on, and is easy to adjust. I highly recommend this for studio use - also for live use, but setup and packup is a bit more time consuming than an X stand. I trust this stand.

Comments about QuikLok Z-726L Two Tier "Z" Stand Extra-wide Keyboard Stand:

I'd recently purchased a Yamaha XF8 and required a solid well built stand. I've had other keyboard stands in the past and I don't trust the X crossed stands because I've had very bad experiences with them being unreliable after a while. It doesn't make any sense to spend a bunch of money on expensive equipment and then try to save bucks on the stand that supports it. The Z-726L was not a disappointment for me. It's built very solid and reliable. The only reason I didn't give it 4 stars is because one of the knob screws that support the top tier came apart on the first day of assembly. I had to purchase super glue to secure the handle of the knob back to the screw which wasn't an impressive experience for a brand new piece of gear. Other than that, this stand is great. The top tier is fully adjustable both vertically, horizontally and can even slide back to adjust how much it extends over the lower tier. It is a bit of a task to put together so it may be somewhat of an annoyance for someone who gigs regularly and requires the stand to be disassembled frequently so you'd probably be better with another keyboard stand that's less of a hassle; but if that isn't a concern for you - This stand is a very worthwhile investment.

I bought one of those A frame stands before I bought this which was a disaster and broke out of the box. This was a grand improvement. The extra-wide base just had enough room that I could fit my organ pedals in between, which was hard to find on a two tier keyboard.

It's well constructed an very adjustable. I'd recommend this to anyone.
