I have a Canon EF 70-200 mm F2.8 lens that I have used for shooting ballet and similar performances (without flash, of course). But that lens is pretty heavy, which is a disadvantage for travel, and it won't fit into my Clik "fanny pack." Most of my focus now is landscapes. But Ion my travels recently encountered one of those opportunities where a zoom would have been very useful. The 75-300 mm lens is light enough for travel, and my initial shots of birds hanging out at our feeders have been quite impressive (with a Canon 6D). Obviously, it won't replace the 70-200 mm given its specs, but it is a useful backup lens in the field, and you can't beat the price. And it fits in Clik bag with the other two lenses (Canon 16-35 mm and Tamron 24-70 mm).

I got this lens for Christmas to mount to my T2i. This is my first telephoto lens. While it isn't bad for a start, once you get over the "WOW" of being able to zoom in on your subject this lens leaves a lot to be desired.
The main issue is it is SOFT, especially at 300mm. Compare this to a 50mm F1.8 stopped down to 2.5 or so and you'll see what I mean. A GOOD telephoto should be nearly as sharp. This lens doesn't even come close.
Combine this with the strong chromic aberration (purple hazing) with sharp highlights. While you can correct for some of it, don't expect to get great shots with strong direct lighting and/or highly reflective subjects.
All that being said you CAN get good shots out of this lens under the right conditions. With flat lighting the CA fails to rear it's ugly head, and with close subjects at 300mm, the bokeh quality is good. However, if the conditions aren't perfect you will end up with soft, purple-tinted photos.
For those with a less decerning eye this lens will do a decent job. But, if you are a bit picky with your photos, even if you're an amateur (like me) you'll probably want to pass on this one.

I use the product for film making. I attache it to the Sony FS-700 using the Metabones Speedbooster. It has a great image and great range for run and gun type situations. For the money you can't beat it. Plus it doubles as a lens for my still camera.

I shoot portrait, landscape and sports photography, this lense is really good at shooting portrait photography. It has great defocus and the pictures turn out very clear. I have bought more expensive lenses that did not have the f-stop capability or the defocus of this lense.. A must have.

Comments about Canon 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III Autofocus Lens:
Since receiving this lens, I have thoroughly enjoyed using it. Pictures taken - compared to my canon 50mm - come out clear and very clean. Being new to photography doesn't make me an expert on lenses, but you don't have to be one to use this lens. This lens is easy to install and operate. Also, the auto focus is reliable but I've personally enjoyed using the manual focus. Another aspect of this lens is the low weight. Sure it may look heavy, but compared to its size, it's relatively light. Overall, this lens has awesome: zoom, MF, AF, weight to size ratio, operation, looks, and low technicality to use.

Comments about Canon 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III Autofocus Lens:
I don't know why there is so much like for the 50-250mm IS II lens compared to this one. But in my opinion, the 75-300 has a better value for money.
Image stabilization is not present, but for an average steady hands for a good light condition (which allows faster shutter speed), these are better than the 55-250 I feel. I own both but mostly use this one for zoom photography.
Moreover, this lens has a better build quality with metal connector versus the plastic for 55-250 IS II
