The Ewa-Marine U-A Housing is an economical solution for using any autofocus SLR camera near or just under the water's surface, manufactured from double laminated PVC and with an optical glass port.  It is rated for dives of up to 66 feet (20 m) depth; perfect for snorkeling, shallow diving, or generally sandy, dusty, and humidity weather conditions.  The U-A gives your camera the best possible protection while being fully operable.  When not in use, it is relatively light and takes up little space.

A pair of non-corrosive and seawater resistant clamping rails fit together for sealing, tightened by knurled screw knobs.  The housing's internal glove allows easy access to camera controls.  If your setup is too buoyant underwater, the optional BF1 lead weight can be affixed to the bottom of the housing.

The U-A housing accommodates an autofocus SLR camera without shoe-mounted flash, with the maximum dimensions being 6.7 x 5.3 x 6.7" (170 x 135 x 170mm) WxHxD with lens and a 72mm maximum lens filter thread. Adapters for 52, 55, 58 and 62mm filter threads are included.

Comments about Ewa-Marine U-A Underwater Housing:

This is a really great housing. I have been using it for surf photography. The housings made for surf photography can run you a couple of thousand, minimum, so this one is an awesome way to get started! It's a bit tricky without being able to test the settings and the lens port requires some cropping in post when using wide angle lenses. Totally worth it though!

Comments about Ewa-Marine U-A Underwater Housing:

I bought this for a weekend jaunt snorkeling and kayaking around the Florida Keys. It folds down easily and very compactly, perfect for those of us who prefer to travel light with just a messenger bag and a plane ticket. It is an ideal bridge product between dinky "underwater" point-and-shoots and $1k+ professional depth-rated hard housings.

The housing performed exactly as I had hoped, keeping my D40 dry and shooting. The optical window is clear, the straps all laid out well, and it's ridiculously easy to plop your camera in and seal it up. The top black bar is a clamp with three thumb screws. That's it, you're ready to rock!

I expect I'll be using this in inclement situations out of water as well such as rain and snowstorms. Photographing on dry, 70°F sunny days just isn't my thing.

The viewfinder is a little difficult to use underwater, but you're also fighting with a dive mask. You're not going to get perfectly framed photos when you're fleeing a barracuda. Just free shoot a whole bunch, pick the best of the batch later.

The documentation isn't too great, but not the worst I've had in camera gear. My only real complaint was that at about hour 4 in the day the little interior plastic ring that you mount to the camera itself started slipping inside the lens section of the bag. This probably isn't a big deal if you kick it around the boat a little less.

Comments about Ewa-Marine U-A Underwater Housing:

I wanted to get into a bit of underwater photography as in a few months I am off to a trip that will possibly involve documentary photography of people in shallow waters. After searching I found this housing and having read the reviews decided to buy it - mainly because it can hold any of my bodies and most of my prime lenses. I found the loading to be a bit tricky as the reviews mentioned, but I got used to it. What I didn't get used to was the poor handling of the camera, all you have is a small slit for a finger that allows you to press the shutter and that's all. The biggest downfall is the fact that it's not sensitive enough and the focusing is haphazard. I used it mainly with a Nikon F100 and 50mm f1.8 and 35mm f2.0 and 28mm f2.8 lenses and I managed to focus like every 4th or 5th shot that I attempted to take. Usually the situation was gone by the time that I managed to focus the [*] thing, that is if I managed to even focus it at all. The plastic is too thick to attempt any manual focusing of the lens which would probably help. So my advice is that if you have to go for this universal housing then buy the one compatible with manual focus cameras (Ewa-Marine U-F Underwater Housing) - the features are all the same plus you have a slit that allows you to focus the lens with your fingers manually, the trade-off being that you have half the depth that the housing can withstand (33' instead of 66'). As for myself I got a Nikonos V and I'm going to sell this housing via [...].

I started using it with my Canon EOS10D and am still using it with the EOS 50D. With all other housings I would have had to buy a new one each time I changed the camera...

Comments about Ewa-Marine U-A Underwater Housing:

I use the prodct with my "retired camera models" like the Fuji S2 and with a Leica V-lux 1 which has an amazing zoom range. It's great because with these light cameras and the housing full of air, it can float if dropped in water and not sink. May not float with a D300 or any similar camera. The housing it's a bit generic in fit and you have to shift and grab the cameras to get a better view in the finder. Sometimes you miss the shot for that reason. You must press the camera against the front glass element for best results. I use it for kayaking and fun days at the water parks but WOULD ALSO trust it for snorkling and pools.
I would recomend the product. Bottom line.
