The B+W 82mm Kaesemann Circular Polarizer MRC Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.
A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.
Kaesemann-type filters feature greater optical efficiency than regular polarizing foils and are more neutral in color. The polarizing foils are cemented between plano-parallel optical glass layers, which are then precision-polished to achieve the most accurate plano-parallel surface. This edge sealing protects the filter layers from humidity and are ideal for use with high-speed telephoto and apochromatic lenses.
The Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) is both an anti-reflection coating as well as a protective surface. It helps to increase light transmission by reducing reflections, scattered light, and ghosting. Additionally, it offers greater protection to the filter substrate and stays cleaner for longer than uncoated filters.
B+W filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. The slim filters are specifically designed for use with wide angle lenses and are only 0.2" / 5mm thick. They do not have front threads for stacking additional filters.
Note: This filter ring's outside diameter is slightly larger than the actual thread size, and because of this you may be unable to attach the lens manufacturer's bayonet-mounted lens hood to the lens while using this filter. This is dependent on your specific lens and how thick the front rim of the lens is; with thinner, low-profile lenses usually being affected more.

After reading the positive reviews I had hoped this filter would resolve the issue I have had with several other top of the line circular polarizers on my 16-30mm lens...namely the polarization effect at 16 to 24 or 28 mm is limited to a verticle band at approximately the 12:00 to 2:00 position or 10:00 to 12:00 in the sky when shooting at the optimun angle relative to the position of the sun... not an even polarization of the sky from 9:00 to 3:00. I'm sure it would work fine to cut glare from objects like leaves and structures, but I am looking for the kind of uniform 9:00 to 3:00 polarization of the sky that I get from circular polarizers on my 30 mm and up lenses.

I have used this polarizer with my Canon 16-35 mm L series glass. Truly a magnificent product! I used it in the beach with palm trees at the background and the pictures were incredibly sharp and enhanced.
I am looking forward to use this on my trip to the Philippines...
Thank you B & H for a superb product!!!

Comments about B+W 82mm Kaesemann Circular Polarizer Slim MRC Filter:
It's a beautiful product for my 16-35mm on a Canon 5D MK III and shows no sign of vignetting throughout the range.
But at it's high cost it should have a cap that will stay on and it doesn't. B&H is sending another one but I haven't received it. The standard Canon lens cap will not fit it. However, if I can't solve the problem it goes back as there is no way to protect it.
It would be 5 stars if it weren't for the cap.

I bought this item specifically for my Canon 16-35 f/2.8 lens. Some vignetting is apparent at full 16 mm, but it can be fixed in LR or PS. B+W only claims it to be good to 17mm.
Unit is well made and operates smoothly. So far, can't' tell the difference between this and top of line Marumi or Hoya units. The box is clunkier than most but I keep the filter in a filter case.

Wonderful CPF for my 15-35mm L glass. I only wish I would have JUST go this one instead of the other smaller 2 that I bought previously. I wasn't aware that there are "step down/up" rings available to use just the largest filter on smaller lenses. duh.

Comments about B+W 82mm Kaesemann Circular Polarizer Slim MRC Filter:
This was one of my first B+W filters. I had my doubts as to just how much better these filters were than their "lower quality" competition. But all my doubts were put to rest. The difference in clarity is actually noticeable between this filter and similar, cheaper filters. The polarization effect is perfect as well. I've used polarizers from other brands which showed almost no effect when used. The brass retaining rings make me feel more secure about having this extra piece of glass on my expensive lenses. It really seems well protected.
The price is definitely a bit higher than I expect this filter really should cost...but for such a noticeable difference, I'm comfortable paying a little more to get this level of quality.

Well constructed slim design. I cannot say more about the performance than what has been said already. Push-on cap could be better designed as I am sure I am going to loose it at some point. Go for it if you have a full frame or plan to buy a full frame in the future.

While running a photo workshop in Costa Rica last year, I had a problem with another manufacturer's polarizing filter fogging up on the inside due to the high humidity, between the two layers of glass. I bought this one since it is supposed to be weather sealed. For this price, I hope so.
