I bought this accessory with a certain degree of trepidation; I really wasn't sure if it was going to be useful enough to justify the price.

Still, after doing contortions and squinting into the eyepiece of a camera set up close to the ground for some macro photography, I felt that there had to be a better way and perhaps the Angle Finder C would provide it.

It did. The device is very useful for avoiding uncomfortable positions and thus being able to concentrate more on the image and less on my about-to-give-out back. The image through the viewer is clear, and the 2.5x magnification option helps greatly with manual focusing.

I now find myself using it increasing for more conventional shooting at head height on a tripod; being able to look into the viewfinder from the side or slightly above or below adds a welcome alternative.

The unit seems reasonably well made without being strikingly solid or heavy. It fits easily onto the eyecup holder of my Rebel XT, 30D or 40D, and stays securely in place once installed. There's easy rotational movement of the side arm through 360 degrees, although the arm only 'clicks' into position for limited number of angles, but enough for all purposes I have yet used the Angle Finder.

The eyecup is comfortable, certainly as comfortable as those on the binocular microscope I use at work. I would say that my long time use of microscopes makes me take to the Angle Finder much more easily than might be otherwise; using it is very similar to using a monocular microscope.

It would be nice if the unit 'swung' out to provide angle options outside of 90 degrees to the camera's line of sight, but I imagine the optics required for this would add considerably to the size and price. As it is, regardless of where the Angle Finder is positioned in its perpendicular motion, the image you see through it is always of that of a conventional view through the view finder. Using it, I tend to forget that I am actually looking through an extra set of glass elements, making it essentially transparent in use as well as in optics.

Good for picture of hard-to-reach places

Sometimes the ground is just to wet or dirty (or your clothes are too good) to lie on the sand and take a picture of a beautiful flower: enter the angle-finder!

Also very good for taking street-picture, as most people are accustomed to the photographer looking at them through the lens, instead of looking down.

Radial rotation is a little too easy, a stiffer rotation would have made the Angle Finder C a little more robust

Very handy

Comments about Canon Angle Finder C:

This is a right angle viewer. This allow photography when it is difficult or impossible to line up with the viewfinder as in macro photography or night photography. Furthermore, the 2X magnification improves manual focus, especially in lowlight conditions.

Comments about Canon Angle Finder C:

I was excited about this product but I found it hard to use in strong light as the rubber around the eye piece is pretty hard and doesn't adjust to the face. It is also one of those problems that many times you have with telescopes and binoculars where, if you don't look absolutely straight in you're not seeing it well. Also the design for people that have prescription is very poor as the whole thing is just rotating so if you put it in your pocket, most likely you'll have to adjust that every time you use it..

Good optical quality; my vision is not anymore what it was in my 20s, so I purchased it to bring more accurately, and faster, my shift lenses into focus - and btw it's nice, coming closer to the ground without having to shovel a trench! That's a tool for creative stuff, to carry everywhere along with the cameras - it's a light and small device anyway.

Very good for low, close-up shooting. The 1,25 setting shows the complete view finder for composing, and you can zoom in with 2.5 for focusing. Fold down eye piece works well with glasses. Three locking swivel positions good for odd angles. Nice case.

Comments about Canon Angle Finder C:

I use the angle finder mainly for macro- and landscape work. Especially for macro work the 2.5 magnification is very helpful. Of course it only magnifies the center portion of the viewfinder but usually for macro this is perfect.

For landscape work I like the angle finder with my manual focus lenses as the magnification offers me greater control over focus.

It is very well built and easy to handle. If you use a 5D MarkIII or the 1Dx note that the adapter piece that comes with it is hidden in the pouch. So when I got that thing I first thought I'll have to get a differenct adapter.

Comments about Canon Angle Finder C:

I guess I'm the only one who thinks that the designer of a focusing magnifier that isn't parfocal with the prime focus wasn't clear on the concept. Also the attachment mechanism is not very secure and it can fall off by the force of gravity alone. The right angle part is very convenient, however and the build quality is very good.

Photographing macro subjects low to the ground can be a neck breaking excercise. But the angled finder allows me to relax and concetrate on the image in the view finder. The ability to magnify the view is a bonus, particularly when the subject is moving ever so slightly as I can guage when to take the shot (wildflowers have a habit of moving in the breeze, just when you don't want them to).

A small item to add to the macro kit.

Great for low angle shooting when you don't want to lay on the ground and good for ground level when you wouldn't otherwise be able to look through the viewfinder. Fairly well made, clear view of the entire screen, and the magnification is nice to have. The diopter adjustment is not the best; there is no index and it rotates too easily. There should either be an index or a way to lock the adjustment. The included pouch is a nice touch.

Works very well. Wish mount was a little more firm on 5D Mark III, but very minor issue.

I absolutely love my new angle finder! I don't know how I photographed without it! Came with both adapters (depending upon your model)and first great on my 7D

I am a seasoned school shooter. Have one of these that I had worn out. I shoot about 1200 images a day and really lean on this finder.

This is great for people like me who want a low perspective when shooting and have difficulty getting up and down. Should have bought this a long time ago...wonderful for macro work.

Comments about Canon Angle Finder C:

Use it for macro shots when live view is hard to see, or I don't want to drain the battery with liveview. It's similar to the eyepiece of a microscope. There is noticeable barrel distortion in 1.25 mode. Switching between magnifications requires readjusting diopter. It has a metal feel. People may want to consider the third party options because this is made in China anyways.
