Product Highlights
  • Includes One Curved Track Section

The Delta Muslin Mover System comes in several different sizes. It is a ceiling mounted system. Ever visit someone in the hospital? Have you seen those ceiling curtains that get drawn every time they do something private to a patient? That's the system.
The Muslin Mover attaches to regular, or drop ceilings, or to walls, with optional L Brackets. Backgrounds are attached to smooth traveling carriers that are dual-wheeled, and made of nylon. It compresses 10' backgrounds to as little as 18 inches, depending on the thickness of the material you decide to use.
It does not come with muslin, or any other background. You provide that. What is DOES come with: straight and curved track sections, one carrier, and one clip for every foot of track ordered.
The Muslin Mover comes in Single, Two, Three Wall Systems, complete with curved and straight track sections. They are also available in a complete Oval System.

This is a 2-wall system, with 27' of track.
Hang one or more backgrounds on the same track, depending on the size of the studio.
Allow rapid changing of cloth backgrounds, without climbing ladders, or rolling up previous backgrounds.
Single and curved sections may be ordered separately, to totally customize your setup.
Additional packs of carriers, clips, splicers and end caps may also be ordered.

I was looking for a better way to hold and store mybackgrounds rather then tripod stands as the legs got int heway and sacrificed space. When purchasing this I knew itwasn't something you stick to ceilings. I purchased a drillbit in order to cut holes in the aluminum metal and usedplastic anchors with screws to hold it into the ceiling. Myfirst option was searching for studs, but even with a studfinder it turned out they weren't where I thought they were.If you place an anchor ever 2.5 feet - 3ft it holds verysolid. Its beautiful just being able to stroll them across.Think about 2 bends on the track, since you could store onboth sides of your background location. A plus is that youcan always add more or subtract track. I felt it was a bitpricey, but I wasn't in the mood to go hardware hunting. Itwas well built and am very satisfied.

Problems Encountered: Nothing that wasn't expected. Prepare to make extra costs ifyou don't have any type of materials such as a drill orhardware at home, or with a close friend.

Previous Equivalent Items Owned: tripod stand background with bar (standard 80$ item)

Items I Recommend: clamps to keep backdrop taut

I originally tried to use a ceiling mounted roller system (with plastic chain and sprocket drive) for my muslins. I love that system for use with my seamless paper, but it didn't work out well with my fabric backdrops. They rolled up crooked, uneven, bunched in the middle, wrinkled, and were a mess. I'd have preferred the roll up / roll down system if it worked well with my fabrics, but I couldn't get it to work.

So, I installed the muslin mover in my small studio to eliminate big, awkward background stands and cross poles. This muslin mover package includes a 90° angle to wrap around to the side wall, where I leave 3 other muslins hung for storage.

The plus is that all four of my muslins are hung and ready to go. They slide into place fairly easily, and I have eliminated my tripod stands (I think).

The downside is that I still have to get on a step ladder and use clamps or bungee cords if I want the muslin stretched tight or clamped at certain points. Also, without the background stand, there are no longer any vertical poles to use for stretching or clamping. I'm wondering if I could have saved the money and just installed a PVC pipe hung from the ceiling. since I need to get on a step ladder anyway.

I haven't had a chance to use it much yet, so I will have to see if I like it or not. My ceilings are 9'6" high, and my muslins are 10' wide X 20' long. This gives me the flexibility to use the added length for draping, covering stools, props, etc, but the extra fabric can be a pain in a small studio. That, of course, is not the fault of the muslin mover, but I suspect floor-to-ceiling height curtains would work better with this system, assuming you don't need the background to also cover floor area in front of the backdrop.

My guess is that I will use the seamless paper more than I do the muslins, mainly because they are easier and faster to raise and lower with my chain drive system. The roll up / roll down ceiling mount system was advertised to work well with fabrics too, but I found it to be awkward unworkable. It could be I needed a much more rigid cross pipe for the fabrics, but I suspect that might still be inadequate. The muslin mover certainly works better with fabrics that the other system did.

I'll know more how I feel in a few months. Who knows. Maybe I will end up cutting my muslins in half, using the top half with the Muslin Mover, and using the other half on the floor! We'll see.

Comments about Delta 1 Muslin Mover Two-Wall 27' System:

Very nice unit. Overall easy to install. We hung it from the wall with L brackets purchased from a hardware store. We also used anchors in wall, so we didn't worry to much about studs in wall. You do need to purchase screws, nut and washer to attach it to the L brackets and we had to drill the holes to install them. Not hard, just a few details to remember. Runs very smooth on the rails. Order a lot more hangers as you will need them to hang more backdrops

Installation was easy and the tracks fit together easy with the track connectors. I put this in my home studio and saved a lot of space by using the tracks. Suggestion: To keep the muslins tight..use clamps on the track. Also, I had to buy lots of extra roller/clips to hang the muslins on....great product..definately recommend.

I searched high and low for a solution to my backdrop need. While searching, we had created our own light stand modification and crossbar to allow me to hang a drop with clamps. The problem with that is it used two light stands. I found this system to be reasonably priced and flexible in the sense that I can add to it if I need to. Because the tracks are aluminum, I was able to cut pieces down where needed. When we move, it can be easily removed and reinstalled at our new location. Installation was easy. Just some holes, a drill, a means to find a stud and draw a straight line and some screws. I was able to hang two large drops with the carriers and clips that came with the system and loving the ability to just move them along the track into position. When "stored", they serve as a cover for my open shelves. Perfect for my needs! I have more carriers en route. I held off on extra clips and will try putting grommets in my drops to save some money.

You must mount this perfectly, or you'll be sorry. Mine has a small space in the seam of the railing, and it never fail that every time I move a backdrop it gets stuck. It corrects with a small tug, but just make sure you get it right to start with. Fairly easy to assemble and put up. A stud finder is a needed accessory. Bottom Line, it is a great product. I no longer have to steam out my backdrops before every shoot. To me that is priceless.

I have all six of my back drops hanging from this track. It was well worth the money. It makes it so easy and fast to change back drops rather than before with the stands. The most time consuming part about this was pre-drilling holes all along the tracks, but after that it went up fast. It is easier to have two people help put it up.

Excellent expandable system, especially if you have a small place for a studio. Buy more Nylon Track Carriers and System Spring Clips as your needs expand.
