I spent three hours shooting outdoors today mostly in the sun. The Hoodman did its job to keep the screen in the shade most of the time. The only time the sun hit the screen was when the sun was directly behind me coming in over my shoulder but was manageable. It is easy to install, using two Velcro strips. It allows easy access to the controls which remain outside the hood on the Canon XF100. My only minor complaint was sometimes it would get bumped and get cocked a little off but it is easily straightened. It is well-made and easy to pack in my camera bag, taking up very little space.

I do a lot of shooting outdoors and need to be able to see the LCD, even in bright sunlight. This hood does a good job allowing me to see the what I'm trying to shoot. I use a HMC150 and it works perfectly with it.

Hello, I have recently bought the Hoodman H-400. First off, I would like to state that it came extremely fast, and it came as expected, packaged and in perfect condition etc etc. I have been filming with a Pro entry level camera for a while now. I mainly film extreme sports.
My camera uses a rather large and expensive LCD, however it is a pain to see in the sun. I do not have an Electronic view finder as an option, and it is tough to know whether I'm getting the "shot" for my videos while I'm in the sun. After buying the Hoodman H-400, everything is a breeze.
The Hoodman blocks out light perfectly and even makes my LCD seem sharper and more contrast in the shade created by the H-400. It straps on to the LCD and is easy to put on and remove, thanks to the velcro straps. It's amazingly sturdy and even folds to fit when not in use. It also makes my camera look quite professional
I've only used the Hoodman H-400 for a while now, but I can tell it will be a new arsenal weapon in my bag of equipment. I'm very happy about my purchase, and don't really have cons.

I got this for my xf-100 although the next size up is recommended. This fits the screen well and still allows you to use the menu buttons and thumbstick on the lcd. Works as expected.

The Hoodman H-400 is a must during outdoor shooting with a small LCD screen. It fits perfectly on my EX-1R screen and makes it so much easier in those very bright situations. You'll find it's valuable to your production. I highly recommend it.

This little Hoodman is perfect for all these cameras with the 3 inch flip out monitors. It solves the problem of not being able to see what you are shooting in bright sunlight. Easy on, easy off and easy storage. It folds flat and can fit in your pocket.

Giving it four stars because although it works as advertised, it does make it relatively/practically impossible to work the touch-LCD screen on the XA10 (and possibly other touch-screen cameras). I'm a huge fan of the XA10 touch screen-- makes menu navigation really rapid-- but since touch screens are likely going to increase in use, perhaps there's a small adjustment they could make to this unit to allow better access. Otherwise, works as advertised IMO, and I really like that it folds down quickly for storage (some others I saw didn't).

Definitely works great - especially when outside. Seem a bit expensive for what it is. It is generic - not dedicated. Seems waterproof as well. Seems are made well.

The Hoodman does just what it is suppose to and does it very well. The construction is simple, yet solid. The hoodman pops open and attaches in seconds. The hoodman really helps out when using the camera LCD monitor to make adjustments...especially in bright or sunlight.

I use this product on my HPX170 for outdoor motorsports coverage. The piece is about a 30 second install and provides a degree of light protection for the undersized screen on the HPX.

A fair amount of my shooting are pans following racecars on the track surface. All the shooting is in daylight with me usually standing in direct light attempting to pan and focus at the same time. This piece does help. Its not a substitute for a Marshall LCD, but if your having to be mobile all day its very little money well spent
