Voigtlander Telephoto Color Heliar 75mm f/2.5 Manual Focus Screw Mount Lens - for Bessa R & L and Other Screw Mount Rangefinder Cameras - Silver

B&H # VO7525S Mfr # 45BA216A

The Color Heliar has all-metal lens barrel construction & a 10-bladed aperture diaphragm which creates pleasing out-of-focus highlights. Click stop aperture movement at half-stop intervals makes subtle adjustments in exposure or depth-of-field easy.

A standard L-mount is used for this lens, making it compatible with Voigtlander Bessa R & L cameras as well as classic cameras from Leica and Canon with the venerable 39mm screwmount design. If you desire to use this lens with Leica M, Voigtlander Bessa T or Konica Hexar RF cameras, use the adapter ring (catalog number 45BD209A). This lens retains rangefinder and viewfinder coupling with all combinations.

Comments about Voigtlander Telephoto Color Heliar 75mm f/2.5 Manual Focus Screw Mount Lens - for Bessa R & L and Other Screw Mount Rangefinder Cameras - Silver:

I bought this lens mainly to see how well I might like working with the 75mm focal length on a Leica M9. While the frameline on the camera leaves something to be desired, I've found the lens itself to be wonderful. I typically set the lens a f2.8 to get a shallow depth of field and try to focus carefully (sometimes do, sometimes miss). When focused properly, the lens is as sharp as I could want (compares favorably with my 50mm Summicron, for instance). The lens tends to draw 'dry' compared with other lenses I've used (Leica, Zeiss), but I have come to like it. The build is excellent - maybe not Leica-like - but I have no complaints. Focus ring is smooth, aperture clicks nicely and stays put.

I photograph street 'grunge', not people, so I can't say how it would work for portraiture.

You'll need an adapter to mount the lens on an M9 or M9P; I purchased one made by Cosina for $59 and it works well; I've order a Milich adapter, which is more expensive, but better made and meant to be permanently mounted on the lens whereas the Cosina adapter will sometimes stay with the camera rather than the lens when you unmount the Voigtlander.

Overall, I'd heartily recommend this lens to anyone looking for something in this focal length.

      A good, short tele

Comments about Voigtlander Telephoto Color Heliar 75mm f/2.5 Manual Focus Screw Mount Lens - for Bessa R & L and Other Screw Mount Rangefinder Cameras - Silver:

This lens fills the void between the 90mm and 50mm for Leica/Contax at a very reasonable price. The adapter makes it work well with the M series Leica rangefinder even though the focus mark does not center on the camera body. On the Leica M8 it is very useful as it is small, light, and gives a very nice close up view at 1m focus. Wide open it is reasonably sharp, but performs at its best when stopped down a bit. Consider this lens if you are using it in well lit conditions like street photography or scenics. As a portrait lens it is fine with film Leicas, but a little tight with the M8.

Items I Recommend: IR/UV filter if using it with the Leica M8
