The Canon 15x50 IS Binocular delivers truly outstanding optical performance and a well-stabilized, high-magnification view.  Whether upon the water's edge or high in the upper deck of a stadium, the 15x50 IS will put you right in the middle of the action.  The 15x50 IS binocular's great for big game hunters, spectators of the more distant sports such as surfing, or anyone with a hunkering for incredible pulling power which can actually be observed without a tripod.  It is a water resistant design with a tripod socket, to allow for easy mounting to tripods or monopods for extended periods of observation.

The 15x50 IS was not designed to be habitually worn around the neck, but if you prefer to carry your optic in this manner then consider a thick neoprene strap instead of the supplied flat woven strap.  If you'll be using the binocular in cold weather, it is highly recommended to use lithium batteries instead of alkaline.

The 15x50 IS is threaded to accept 58mm filters, which is convenient for using polarizers around water, but it also means that during extremely bright or humid conditions you can use a pair of 58mm lens hoods to help shield the objective lenses from dew and stray light (and thus improve contrast).

I use the binoculars for astronomy. While the 50mm apeture seemed small for his use, (I own 100mm binoculars), the 50mm WITH the IS function make up some of the difference. It allows you to study an object without having to drag out a tripod and is great for travel. I have found the binoculars to be a bit heavy. If you are not fit, you may run into trouble holding these. PS: all the discussion about should I get the 10x42 L or the 18x50's=get the 15x50's. It's a nice balance of power and quality

I use these for general nature viewing and the night sky. The optics are sharp and I've noticed no aberrations. They gather a lot of light, and the image stabilization is top-notch. On the downside, they are very heavy and you may well need to rest your elbows on a convenient (if available) surface to steady the image a little more and to avoid fatigue. Also, the eye relief is too long to enjoy the entire field of view with the cups in the standard position. But when folded down, they are hard and very uncomfortable on your eye socket bone. I took them to a pro optics shop and they could not solve the problem. I asked if they could slice a ring of rubber off the bottom of the cup and slide the rest down for proper relief, but they said that the cup has a lip that fits into a channel on the eyepiece barrel and it probably wouldn't be a good idea to alter it. If Canon will come up with a shorter replacement eye cup, that would be the ticket. Also, they really should supply, standard, objective lens covers. As it is, I use my Canon IS 10x30s much more often and would recommend that you be prepared to return the 15x50s for a refund if you're not happy. We're talking about a lot of money.

Comments about Canon 15x50 IS Image Stabilized Binocular:

I read a lot of reviews about IS and they were all positive. I thought a lot about spending the extra for this feature. After using them I realized they are amazing , the IS feature is well worth the extra money great binoculars and highly recommended.

Comments about Canon 15x50 IS Image Stabilized Binocular:

I have already used the 15X50 IS binocs several times. I replaced an older pair of Fujinon 14X40 with this Canon pair. The Fujinons do a slightly better job of image stabilization and are great for terrestrial subjects but don't have quite enough light gathering for astronomical use. The Canon 15X50 are very nice with only slight chromatic aberration on very bright objects. Excellent for my purposes. Light weight and steady enough to hand hold and gather over 50% more light than the 14X40s. A quality product.

Comments about Canon 15x50 IS Image Stabilized Binocular:

Got these last week along with some 58mm screw in filters for the objectives. Yeah, they should be included by Canon, but they are not. And the caps for the eyecups fall off like the other reviewers said. I used the binoculars last night at the Majestic Theatre "Phantom of the Opera". I deliberately got my ticket in Rear Mezz Row L, Seat 14 - this is the farthest row from the stage and up against the wall. I estimate the distance from my seat to center stage as 120 feet. The binocs were excellent - very bright, excellent sharpness all the way to the edge. The field of view: an actor center stage just filled the FOV vertically. Horizontally, the FOV covered about two actors, if they were standing within about 2 feet of each other. The image stabilization was very good, I can't see how anyone can hold 15x steady without it. The weight didn't bother me - I'm 5'6" 145# 58 year old male, and I used the binocs for about 60% of the show. I tried them with and without my glasses (bifocals)and without was a bit better, but nothing major. Hope this review helps someone looking at these binocs. Yeah, they aren't cheap, I hesitated a long time.

Comments about Canon 15x50 IS Image Stabilized Binocular:

While the view is exquisite, these are very uncomfortable to use. It's probably because my eyes are closely spaced. The structure around the eye pieces is very large. If you roll the eye cups back, they're OK wearing glasses, but not great, and the field of view is limited. With the eye cups rolled out, you can't see the entire field of view. So, the only way I can see the entire field of view is to roll the eye cups back, and use them without my glasses on. That's very uncomfortable, as my nose is jammed between the eye pieces. For a company that usually gets ergonomics so right, these are a true oddity.

Comments about Canon 15x50 IS Image Stabilized Binocular:

Did some online research before identifying the 15x50 as the best fit for my use. Tried them in the store for comfort and handling, found them to be heavy (as expected), but well balanced and easy to adjust. I typically use them with sunglasses on, so I leave the eyecups rolled down.

My only complaint is that Canon does not include lens covers. I purchased screw-on 58mm UV lenses and snap-on lens caps, which I feel are necessary for a quality instrument like this.

Very happy with purchase, would buy them again.

These are way better than I thought they would be - anybodies cons mentioned I find a pro (but that's just me) I have big hands and I find the weight if anything better for stabilizing them - what do people want?? you cant have all that glass/technology/weather proof/quality made in Japan in some flimsy light frame.
No other Bino will be able to compete at this magnification off the tripod (well except maybe the 18x ones :0)
Push that button and whammy its all stands still - love m

Comments about Canon 15x50 IS Image Stabilized Binocular:

I am a birder (female) and birding will be my primary use, although an African safari will hopefully materialize soon.

I knew before ordering that the binocs would be heavy, but still I was surprised at how heavy they initially seemed. The good news - I'm adjusting very well. The more I handle them, the more I have become used to the weight, and that has rapidly become a non-issue for me. I am pleasantly surprised at how steady I can hold the binocs, and I don't need to use the stabilizer that much. These binocs deliver ... you really get excellent closeups of birds, much larger and clearer than my 10x36 Canon IS binocs (and I thought they were excellent).

A problem I almost had was adjusting the binocs to fit my eyes. I have a small head (cap size of 6.5), and needed the maximum adjustment.

The minimum focus distance turns out to be just fine. I have not yet worn these with my harness, but expect everything will be fine.

Net of this is, my areas of concern were not problems, and I am extremely pleased with the binocs. I would have preferred to have a hands-on trial before ordering online, but that was not an option for me. Previous Canon ownership and online research led me to a great decision.

Comments about Canon 15x50 IS Image Stabilized Binocular:

I have six other pairs of binoculars all very high quality and purchased for particular uses. 7X50, 8X42, 10X50, 11X80, 30X80, 25X100 for birding, marine, sports, and astronomy. Also have two telescopes, but more and more I find myself reaching for these Canon IS 15X50 for everything (other than the telescopes). I'm 70 now and my hands are not as steady as they once were, but the IS Canons really fill the bill.

I use the product for work, for idendifing vessel from far away in a rocking boat, so I need the Image Stabilized Binoculars to do my job. The only thing with them is the weight. They are around my neck, in a bouncing high speed boat. The weight is a factor, and it didn't come a neck strap.

The binoculars performed perfectly, giving outstanding clarity and steady image. I used them on a trip from Toronto to Australia and New Zealand. The cruise ship went around New Zealand, visiting the spectacular scenery of the Fjordland National Park. These binoculars were the envy of many crew and passengers.
The only negative is the lack of front lens caps, and the poor fit of the eyepiece covers, which will not stay on.

Comments about Canon 15x50 IS Image Stabilized Binocular:

Out here in Utah the sky is clear and visibility is typically 75 miles or more. So it's great to have binoculars that really cut through the distance, as these do. But the best part is the image stabilization. Your eyes would quickly become fatigued if you tried to handhold a 15x (or even a 10x) binocular without the stabilization feature. But with it, the image is amazingly sharp and steady! We can see details miles away that we have never seen before. You can even see the 'heat rising' in the air -- which is totally impossible without stabilization.

The only negative (and why I gave it only 4 stars) is the eye cups. They are very hard rubber, and cut square at the end instead of angled to fit your eye sockets. As a consequence, you must Jam the binoculars a bit closer to your face than is comfortable in order to see the full field of view.
I hope Canon will come up with a retrofit for the eye cups, as otherwise the binocular is perfect.

                          15x50 binocular: 5 stars
eye cups: 1 star or less.

Comments about Canon 15x50 IS Image Stabilized Binocular:

I own 9 pairs of Binoculars among them Minolta,Tasco,Olympus that are very nice in there different sizes and I use them for various things,birdwatching/sports/hunting I bought the 15x50s for myself after purchasing the 10x30s for my brother-in-law and seeing how great they worked. The 15x50s are even better than I expected images are crisp and clear even before stabilizing them. I use them for birdwatching right now but will be using them for hunting next fall. You will not go wrong with this purchase if you want a great pair of Binoculars. As an after thought I purchased a pair of Canon uv haze filters for them and clip on lens covers they both work great also.

Fantastically sharp and bright. Well balanced for weight. Stabilization makes use very easy and comfortable

Problems Encountered: Rubber caps for eye end lenses constantly fall off. For a product this excellent, one would expect Canon to find a solution for this annoyance.

Previous Equivalent Items Owned: Non stabilized binocs

Items I Recommend: lens hoods, polarizer filters and wider neck strap
