Canon's final no-compromise 35mm flagship SLR, the magnesium alloy Canon EOS-1V is a benchmark in professional 35mm SLR camera history.  It has a lightning-fast autofocus system with 45 AF points that can be customized to the needs of the user.  Seven super-sensitive cross sensors detect vertical as well as horizontal lines of subjects, and the central sensor works even with working apertures as low as f/8, so that you'll retain autofocus function using f/4 lenses with 2X teleconverters.  The EOS-1V is made in Japan to the highest possible manufacturing standards, and its shutter is specified to withstand 150,000 cycles (>4000 36-exposure rolls of film).

The EOS-1V's control layout shares the lineage of the original EOS-1, and users of the 1, 1N, & 3 will find the operation intuitive.  The EOS-1V's sealing is the best in Canon's 35mm SLR history; together with "L" telephoto lenses, one can shoot in the worst of conditions.  The 100% accurate glass pentaprism viewfinder is as bright and contrasty as any autofocus camera, and custom functions allow personalizaton of autofocus, metering, operating systems, etc.  You can also link the EOS-1V to a PC for transfer of data and remote control operation.

Comments about Canon EOS-1V Camera Body:

I bought my canon eos 1V in 2009 along with the optionable PB-E2 power dive booster - (which allows 10 frames/second shooting capabilities as well as vertical shutter controls) from this very website, as I was still and am still shooting film along side my digital cameras.
When my camera arrived it came in very secure protective packaging. After opening up the packaging and handling the camera I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the camera which felt very strong and durable in the hand due to its metal construction.

After attaching the PB-E2 power drive booster to the 1V, and charging the required NP-E2 high capacity battery I went out to do some shooting. I use the canon EF 24-105 F4 L series lens and canon EX 580 II flash gun.
I havn't owned a 1 series camera before but found the 1V very easy to use. After loading the camera with fujifilm and getting a few rolls developed I was pleasantly surprised by the lovely rich, sharp images produced by my new camera. It really takes great pro quality images... I mostly shoot landscape and nature photoes and the camera performs very well.
I have since borrowed a canon EF 17-40 F4 L series lens and the images produced with the camera and this lens have been even more spectacular showing even greater sharpness , contrast and overall better image quality (as to be expected from a shorter range lens).... But I am still very happy with the performance of the EF 24-105 F4 L series lens and it is the more versatile of the two lens. Since owning and using my EOS 1V everything has worked well, the camera is very easy to use if you have some photography/camera experience and nothing has failed . The camera really is a magical metal art of engineering and design with controls falling easily to the finger tips and the confidence of long life durability. Anyone who invests in this camera will be extremely happy and rewarded by this cameras design and performance... I am so glad I made the purchase when I did as I still love shooting 35mm film... Its really great getting away from the digital camera race sometimes and enjoying the traditional way of taking photoes.
While digital cameras have come a very long way since the early days and their image quality has become very good, there is still something more appealing and about 35mm film images, they just seem so much richer, sharper and desirable to the eye and almost never require and form of manipulation to the enhance their picture quality where as even the most expensive pro digital SLR almost always requires some degree of digital enhancement to look sharp and desirable.
Learning photography on a 35mm SLR camera really has the benefit of teaching one to become a better photographer as you have to learn the real skills and art required to take great photoes rather than just simply hiding behind a digital camera, taking photoes and relying on digital manipulation to make your photoes look good.
Im not saying digital isn't any good, as it does have its place in modern society, but learning on a film SLR will teach you the technacalities of general photography.
I do also use my Canon EOS 50D and powershot G10 which both work great as well, but I get greater joy, pleasure out of my EOS 1V.

The Canon EOS would make a great companion with a EOS 5D, 1DX or any other digital EOS SLR and the EF 24-105 F4 L and EF 17-40 F4 L series lens's are great matches for the 1V.
Hopefully Canon will either re release the EOS 1V or release an all new updated model in the form of the 1Z at some point as there are many film lovers and users still out there.

I highly recommend this camera and website.

        great way to shoot film

        By Bad Dog Photography

Comments about Canon EOS-1V Camera Body:

I bought mine because I'm always hearing about the quality of photos being better when shot with a modern film camera, instead of the technology of the 60's and 70's.

I don't think the camera body matters as much as the lenses, but this is the flagship EOS, so it takes the great glass Canon makes currently.

Pretty easy to get used to as well, since it's the same layout as the digital, without the extra controls.

Comments about Canon EOS-1V Camera Body:

Beautiful camera, everything, I expected. Compares well, with my Contax, and Leica cameras. It truly is built like a "tank".

All the latest lenses and equipment work, with it. Including the IS lenses. It has many great features, and modes.

While I will continue to shoot with my Digital Canons. I do love to slow down and shoot film too.

This camera makes it a real joy.

Comments about Canon EOS-1V Camera Body:

Pretty much like all other reviews, solid build, great camera, deserves the 1 title for sure. The all alloy body does come with some weight, though.

Just want to mention one thing I didn't know until I got the camera: 1V is capable of storing the exposure info of 100 rolls (says the manual, I'm not sure how many exposures in total), which you'll need a special cable and software (EOS Link Software ES-E1) to export. Problem is the cable is long discontinued, not to mention the software was last updated about 10 years ago and only supports up to win XP. I tried to google around for that cable but all I could get was people looking for them. So practically, you can't get hands on those data unless you're lucky to get one of those cables.

Not a big deal for me, but just a heads up to let anyone know.

Comments about Canon EOS-1V Camera Body:

This latest Canon is a great 35mm. Solid body, excellent seals, and ergonomic feel and function. While some say "Film is Dead", I believe that as long as Canon makes a 35mm SLR of this quality, and 35mm film available, there are still some great photos just out there waiting. Would definitely buy this product again.

Comments about Canon EOS-1V Camera Body:

When shooting my first roll I was impressed with the build quality that rivals a famous German company, the ergonomics and how easy this film body is to use. When I had my first few rolls developed it blew my mind. A lot of people say that the camera doesn't matter- I believe there is a point to that argument but it is overstated. This camera body coupled with your favorite film and Canon L-Series lenses takes away any equipment excuse you might make. The camera then gets out of your way in order to focus completely on your composition and shot. For those that want customized settings, etc it is there if you need it and not in the way if you don't.

Comments about Canon EOS-1V Camera Body:

I went backwards in time. First I had a Canon 1DS MKII (and it works perfectly 5 years after the purchase) then I thought about a possible backup camera. It was the Canon 1V. Since then I use the film camera a bit more than the digital one because I like the film feeling better than the digital. This camera is perfect and I can use all the EOS lenses on it (including the immage stabilizatored lenses)as well as any other accessories like flashes, remote exposure unit, filters, etc. It's reliability is very good (made for pros), fast and easy to use. It's a perfect backup camera in all cases (eg wedding photography). The 10 frame/sec multiple exposure speed is more than enough for practicaly all purposes. And THIS IS A CAMERA NOT A VIDEO UNIT!!!

Comments about Canon EOS-1V Camera Body:

I obtained my first camera by winning it on the carnival midway at the American Indian Exposition in 1959. There've been a few cameras between then and now, but never one of this stature. I justified its cost by noting that it is the last film camera I will ever buy, and the best of the breed by any reasonable definition. It will allow me to enjoy using film (especially B&W) and it will someday belong to my daughter, who shares my interest in photography. If you think that you'll regret missing this boat when it sails, and you can afford it, just buy it. It will hold its value well if you decide to sell it later.

You can never go wrong with this camera. It will be with you forever. Only thing I am going to say is that the price is a little steep, but if you can afford it then do it. If you like film, need a camera, and have the money, you won't regret this one--so long as you like Canon.

Comments about Canon EOS-1V Camera Body:

If you shoot film, this is the camera to use. I'll echo the other reviews about the ruggedness, feel, etc.

I'm a nature photographer, mostly shooting landscapes and macro florals, selling prints at exhibits.

I've been using the wonderful 5d Mark II for the convenience, but when I compose an image that I might want to use professionally, I always pull out the 1V. The difference in image quality needs to be seen to be fully appreciated, particularly with L-series lenses.

Developing and scanning film is an effort and expense, but the investment is worth it for your best images. I print images from 35mm up to 16x24 inches and they show marvelous detail and tonal range.

For larger prints, I use my 4x5 view camera.

I purchased all my equipment at B&H. Based on my experience with them, I stopped comparison shopping a long time ago.

Comments about Canon EOS-1V Camera Body:

I started photography late in my life and I have been shooting digital until I was attracted by some photos of my kids that were taken with a film camera. I decided to get a good film camera. After reading reviews about this camera, I decided to buy a used one as I could not afford a new one.
I can not stress this enough, this is the best camera one can hold. Its design can not be even compared to the digital gear I am using today.
The pictures are stunningly sharp, the auto focus is very fast and accurate.

I like this camera so much that I have not used my digital camera(Canon 7D) for months now.
I will recommend this camera, it is the best film camera ever made.

Definitely the Best film camera you can get from Canon.
The construction is incredible with its magnesium alloy body, weather proof seals on all buttons.

The auto-focus is the fastest I ever got to use, and once coupled with L-series lens, you get the best combinaison body/lens possible.

Even so I've got a digital body, I've kept my 1V-HS and I'm planning to go through some more films with it, because shooting with this beast is really something else!
