Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun. Filter factor is between 2.3 and 2.8 (approx. +1.3 stops).

This unique filter is the result of a collaboration between Hoya and respected wildlife photographer, B. Moose Peterson. It combines the advantages of a polarizer with the warming effect of an 81A filter.

Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems without problems).

    Not Sure

I have only been able to use it once. Not sure the degree of polarization is sufficient.

Not as good as those highly priced ones I think due mainly due to coating quality. But it matches to my Canon G15 for that quality level.

Comments about Hoya 58mm (Moose) Warm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter:

Shooting up here on the high deserts of New Mexico, I've always used a circular polarizer instead of a plain UV. The Hoya warming polarizer, mounted on my 70-300 apo, is superior to my polarizer on my standard lens. The touch of warmer colors combined with the circuler polarizing control is just what I've needed at our high altitude, bright sun and multi-colored skies and vistas.

Got to try this out a couple weekends ago. Pics came out rather nice. Just wish I had taken more pics with the filter on rather than off. Still learning the camera but I was happier with the pics using the filter than the ones that I didn't.

Comments about Hoya 58mm (Moose) Warm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter:

The filter is well built, has a smooth motion, and warms up otherwise cool scenes. Recently used the filter on a beach vacation. The Moose Warming CPL brought out the warm skintones of the family while allowing for a deep blue sky and cloud definition. Also worked well for knocking the glare out of the water at a garden Koi pond. Ended up with some great shots!

Comments about Hoya 58mm (Moose) Warm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter:

I used to rely on filters in the days before digital and could not find the right combination of controls on my new age SLRs that worked quite as well, until I happened upon the Moose. I don't know where the brand name comes from, unless the makers wanted to emphasize its durability. I can not believe what this item does to images: adds sharpness, reduces glare, improves metering--these are just side benefits to its declared functions of polarizing and warming, both of which it does magnificently. I have been using it this winter because the lack of vegetation and the frequent snow in NYC tend to give everything a monochromatic cast. The warming, which was always an essential filter in my film days, brings out colors and all in all banishes the depressive sameness of winter snaps. One difference in these lenses which I have noticed in other circular polarizers: they do not seem to give as much hand control as the non-circular. You can still turn the filter, but it doesn't seem to be cutting glare or darkening the sky through the viewfinder. This is not a minus, because it is doing its job and is a necessary adaptation for autofocus lenses. The images are if anything even better. The metal and threads have strength, it screws on without effort, I am so glad I bought this that I may even invest in a few backups. No disadvantages that I have noticed.
