    Super large camera bag.

First of all, from this pros perspective most reviews are not very useful from camera bags to large format printers. I hope this one is worthy of your time.

Review Tamrac Pro 12 (5612) Camera Bag

    Pros
    1. Large bag that holds 2 DSLR with attached medium size lens (4 1/2 in.) and hood (reversed) on top for easy access.

    2. Room for 2 more mid-sized lenses (up to 7 in.) with hood for easy top access. There is room for two more small lenses underneath the bodies but I use this space for seldom used hiking stuff.

    3. Two large end pockets fully covered fast Velcro access. I gave it a "Pro" rating for being large, "Neutral" rating for Velcro access. A zipper provides better security. I have on occasion lost control of my camera bag when hiking and had it roll over downhill several times before coming to a stop. It is a comfort to know stuff will not fly out in a tumble.

    4. Two large but not deep front pockets. Each front pocket has two open pockets is good for holding 4 soft memory card cases which holds 6 SD cards each for a total of 24 protected cards. Very easy accesses only need to unzip partially for cards.

    5. Solid foam padded bottom.

    6. When purchasing I didn't know for sure but the lid has four buckles, two on front side and one on each end. The support of four buckles is critical for carrying a 15 lb. bag. Without the end buckles the lid would collapse and fold into two.

    7. This bag (Pro 12) is made to sit on the table or ground without worrying about it tipping over or trying to balance it.

    8. Cushioned dividers so no lens or camera body is touching another,

    9. Comfortable shoulder strap and a sturdy handle for carrying a fully loaded bag. I may carry the bag by the handle for long distances.

Neutral Features (not bad or good but okay)

    1. The lid inside compartments is split into two. The advantage is not as much movement of stored items. The disadvantage is inefficient partitioning of space. I could store three filter cases if it wasn't split but only two for the Pro 12 bag.

    2. Zipper around main compartment. Slows access but keeps out the weather and provides more support. I probably will never zip it unless I need the support.

    3. Two large but not deep front pockets. No padding so very limited protection for items in front pockets.

    4. I'm not a fan of layered storage and the space under the DSLR bodies is slower access. I put seldom used items here, flashlight, emergency food bars and a small umbrella.

    Cons

    1. Useless feature I don't need. Red tab memory card indicator is worthless and this pro would never trust a system like this that could cause confusion to overwrite a memory card. Although I will store emergency cards in this space.

    2. The compartments adjacent to DSLR attached lens, was able to put lens on one side but had to compress the other side to make room for the attached 72mm lens with hood. The compressed compartments have very limited use.

My Typical Packing List (Pro 12)

    1) 2 small DSLR body with attached lens listed below

    2) 4 medium size lenses, two are attached
    18-250 mm (72 mm ring)
    17-70 mm (72 mm ring)
    10-20 mm (77 mm ring)
    70-300 mm (62 mm ring)

    3) Four to six memory card soft cases holding six SD cards each.

    4) Up to four memory card case, hard case for carrying filled cards, usually in pants pocket

    5) Two spare batteries.

    6) Filters 72mm ring: UV, Polarizing, and Neutral Density, 77mm Polarizing filter, hard plastic cases

    7) Filters 72mm ring holder and rectangular filters: Gradual Neutral Density, Neutral Density

    8) Large air blower, case with cleaning cloth, solution

    9) Hiking stuff: umbrella for summer shade or rain, flashlight, compass, pocket knife, tweezers, and food bars

    10) Rain sleeve for camera and Garbage bag.

    11) Small notebook and pens

    12) Remote control, bubble-level

    Background

A little background, I've been eking out a living for the past decade as a landscape and wildlife photographer. I use my camera gear almost exclusively outdoors. I purchased about five traditional camera bags from small to large about 8 or 9 years ago. So I do know what I'm looking for in a camera bag. Two things happened about a year ago, one I had an incident that highlighted degeneration in my neck making it more difficult to carry a heavy bag and I finally wore out my largest bag. My second largest bag cannot carry two DSLR as required and is almost worn out too. Since then (to help my neck) I've tried two different photo backpacks and definitely see the benefit for long hikes. They are great for getting your gear and hiking stuff there but then fall short for actually doing the photo-shoot. I shoot with two DSLR with different lenses alternating between the two. One is not the backup but is used about equally depending on the lenses. Sometimes one is sitting on a tripod while I shoot roaming shots with the other. Sometimes I use a large 200-500 mm telephoto which is carried separately and then I usually leave one of the four other lenses behind. I have traveled on at least one hundred over-night trips and know the drill about carrying equipment from the car to the motel room. I have done countless day trips. I prefer large padded bags that are easily packed and have good organization. The Pro 12 bag is very similar to the one I wore out and looks like an excellent replacement. I'm looking forward to many years of use with this bag.

Item is true to its description, however I baught it thinking that it could hold my Sigma 150-500mm lens. The way the divider pannels are made there was no way to really configure it to work and still safely pack other items. Otherwise this bag is great for smaller lenses and gear. Superior quality and good design. I feel like this bag would protect my gear very well from normal handling mishaps.

I use this camera bag to hold my canon 7d with my 70-200mm lens attached along with my 2 canon flashes, 24-70mm lens and 100mm macro lens. It's a great bag that holds a pretty good amount of equipment. I like that its padded well to protect from accidental drops.

I used to carry a large Tamrac backpack for most of my gear but found it cumbersome and unwieldy , after checking out and using my friends Pro 12 bag it was a no brainer for me to order one. Highly delighted, it literally handles all my equipment with ease and finding the right lens or accessory is a snap.Fits nicely in the overhead bin while flying and doesn't really look like a camera bag so it's less attractive to thieves.I even manage to fit my 11" macbook in its sleeve inside !Love this bag .

Comments about Tamrac 5612 Pro 12 Camera Bag (Black):

This is my second Tamrac bag and I have been incredibly satisfied with both of them. They are well made, reasonably priced, sleek, and functional. After two years of heavy use there is very minimal wear and tear. It holds nearly all of my important equipment and will likely have more than enough space for most semi-professionals and fit professional two body rigs comfortably. This bag holds everything I need for 90% of my jobs using available light. The accessory storage systems are very well thought out and feature purpose built pockets for memory cards and batteries that are well designed and functional. However, it is possible to over stuff the accessory pockets on the front and in the lid to the point that the bag will not close easily, especially if you carry a lot of AA batteries or put your radio slaves in there. The strap is surprisingly comfortable, and the overall build quality of the bag is excellent. Equipment is much easier to get to than backpack style bags. Another great feature is the zipper on the back that allows you to easily secure the bag to the handle of a rolling suitcase, which really comes in handy when traveling! I have never had a problem on an airplane, this fits quite comfortably under the seat and with plenty of room to spare for a coat or small backpack in an overhead bin. My only REAL complaint is that there is no space for a laptop, which would be fantastic. However, an iPad fits quite well in the (very slim and somewhat useless) rear pocket.

To give you an idea of how much this will hold, I carry:
              (2) 5D mkIII
              24-105 f/4L IS USM
              70-200 f/2.8L USM
              50 f/1.4 USM
              85 f/1.4 USM
              Sigma 35 f/1.4 DG HSM
              Vintage Nikkor 50 f/1.4 and 35 f/2 w/ adapters
              580EX II
              CP-E4 battery pack
              Sekonic L508
              (5) LP-E6 and (2) chargers
              (24) Eneloop AAs
Filters, extra lens caps, radio slaves, sync cords, and a few other small accessories

This setup still leaves room for one additional body (or) one more large lens (or) two more small lenses (or) one more flash.

So, to review, this is a strong and durable, well designed bag that will hold two bodies, 7 lenses, one flash (or two without the spare battery pack) and all of the accessories, with room to spare. What do you have to lose? Unless you have more than five lenses or carry a lot of speedlites in your setup, this bag will hold pretty much any professional everyday rig. However, if you do not regularly use such a large setup or only own one body, you may find that this bag is too large for you and should consider the 5606 or 5608.

I am a one camera person and this holds that plus 6 lenses, flash and filters.
I agree with the other review that it would be great if the side slots were larger to hold filters.
                A great bag overall.

Comments about Tamrac 5612 Pro 12 Camera Bag (Black):

I looked for a larger version for a good bag I have from another manufacturer and found this one. The reviews were good and the price was quite affordable so I took a chance. I am pleased by the quality and after a day or so of moving and readjusting the dividers it works for me. Not how it was configured in the door but fine.

The velcro is very strong and requires a lot of effort to pull the dividers loose so I have confidence they will stay put in the field.

Comments about Tamrac 5612 Pro 12 Camera Bag (Black):

There certainly is no shortage of options when looking for a camera bag. In fact the number of bags is overwhelming. Final choice is probably a function of whether it will hold all our gear and brand reputation. In my case I've used a Pro 12 bag since 2008 and didn't hesitate to buy another for my new gear. I was delighted when it was still available. It's great value for the price point.

I fit a great deal of my gear in this bag. I have several large aperture lenses so I couldn't fit them all in. But I did manage to have my camera and five lenses in the bag, ring flash, standard flash, teleconverters, extension tubes, and a whole host of filters and accessories. My 500mm did not fit. Lots of pockets and there are add on accessories you can get as well. Appears to be nice and sturdy. I believe it is a good deal for the price.
