Celestron Vibration Suppression Pads for Tripods

You Pay: $39.39

Telescope and spotting scope vibrations are caused by windy conditions, unsteady mounts/tripod or accidental bumps to the instrument, and result in reduced image quality whether observing or photographing.  Celestron's set of three Vibration Suppression Pads reduce the time the scope resonates with vibration by nearly 100%, and also decrease the amplitude of the vibrations.

To make the notion simpler to understand, imagine two identical scope setups adjacent to one another with both having a laser pointer affixed at a wall some distance away from the scopes.  Were you to influence both scopes with an identical vibration-causing shock, the laser beam originating from the scope with the Celestron Vibration Suppression Pads underneath would both move a shorter distance upon the wall and come to rest much quicker than the beam originating from the scope without the device installed.  They really work!

The pads fit between the bottom of the tripod legs and the ground, a simple and functional solution to the problem of image disturbance.  They work on most any surface: grass, dirt, concrete, asphalt & wood.  Suitable for both telescopes and spotting scopes.

    They really work.

Comments about Celestron Vibration Suppression Pads (useful at high power when near cars, etc.):

With these on concrete driveway under surveyor tripod's spike feet, damping time on my solar scope was less than one second compared to 3-5 seconds without. Most importantly the subjective effect was of a huge improvement. With the pads, vibration was just not an issue; without the pads, it was. Have not tried them on grass/soil where I suspect there would be less improvement, but on concrete they are definitely worthwhile.

Comments about Celestron Vibration Suppression Pads (useful at high power when near cars, etc.):

I was originally skeptical of paying for what I thought were overpriced foot pads but these provided the most noticeable improvement of anything I've bought for my scope so far. What used to be an annoying side effect of touching the focus knob has now become virtually unnoticeable. The image now stabilizes at a maximum of a half second to a second after adjusting focus on my Nexstar 5SE. I highly recommend them and doubt that you would be disappointed with the purchase.

Comments about Celestron Vibration Suppression Pads (useful at high power when near cars, etc.):

Work great with my Orion SkyView Pro mount and Celestron C6 SCT. The SVP has rubber feet and these 'pads' protect the stand feet when on pavement. Also help to damp out vibration pretty quickly. Might not work as well in grass, but for the price no harm in trying.

Comments about Celestron Vibration Suppression Pads (useful at high power when near cars, etc.):

These are large heavy construction and not how they seem in the photo. Excellent for absorbing vibrations as they go under the feet of the tripod. Just looking through the telescope hands free had movement of the image due to vibrations coming up through the tripod legs, much reduced with these special pads.

First time I used this was with a celestron nexstar 6se.Originally I was used to seeing vibration and a bouncing effect on the subjects I was viewing in my scope. These pads help to reduce the overall vibration associated with auto-aligning scopes, I think they are fundamental for astrophotography.

Comments about Celestron Vibration Suppression Pads (useful at high power when near cars, etc.):

Fairly large (about 3" dia.) plastic/rubber compound that you place under your tripod legs. Upper area is concave to hold legs more securely; bottom has 3 low-profile round nubs that are fairly smooth but can be used on a variety of smooth surfaces. The best method of reducing vibrations would be to use a sturdy tripod with built-in vibration dampening characteristics (e.g., wood) and without the use of a center rod. If you're looking for a little more vibration reduction these suppression pads will help. If you have an inadequate tripod it won't make much difference.

Comments about Celestron Vibration Suppression Pads (useful at high power when near cars, etc.):

I was disappointed to learn that I needed to remove the rubber feet from my tripod before using them; the feet do not come off easily (I am not sure they were meant to be removed). The pads seemed to work fine but, after using, I put them back in the box. When I went to use them again I noticed that the orange ring on one had stuck to the orange ring on another and when I pulled them apart (they were sticky) the orange rings separated and came out! These things were expensive - this shouldn't happen. I wonder if there is some sort of defect and the sticky stuff is leaking silicone? Like I said: disappointing!

These really help with foot traffic vibration. For the price, I would recommend these wholeheartedly.

The orange parts are sorbothane cups that isolate the other two components. I find them to be of solid construction and are larger than I expected, but that's a good thing.
