I have this mic both at work and for my worldwide ministry support. While the range is limited, I find that for quick and clean shoots, this mic is very reliable. Sometimes I don't want to use my [$] Sennheiser set, especially since it can be quickly stolen while shooting overseas. This mic is a good alternative and I've had no problems with any of the three sets I own.

We were hoping to better our content for a project ([*] that relies heavily on video by adding lapel mics to our standard and shotgun mics and didn't want to drop $400+. After doing some research we decided to buy these Sony lapel mics but unfortunately they haven't met our needs. Their range (transmitter to receiver) is very short (~20'), much less than the claimed 150'. Also, even in such short distances the audio quality isn't clear. The units operate much better when directly pointed at each other (e.g. the transmitter is not inside but outside a pocket, etc.).We plan to return these to B&H.

Comments about Sony WCS-999 Wireless System:
Bought this wireless system because we didn't have enough money in budget for anything else and am very disapointed. I get a lot of static and it is very unreliable. When it works, it sounds good. But random static makes this a NO BUY.
I tried using this for simple interviews and to record presentations being given. I was in line of sight and very close. No reason for the static.

Comments about Sony WCS-999 Wireless System:
I recently purchased the Sony WCS-999 Lavalier Microphone for use in our large group lecture hall at our high school. In combination with a sound mixer and speakers (purchased separately), the lavalier mic has worked wonderfully for the purpose in which it serves.
The mic and the receiver work off of one AA battery each and the battery life so far has been pretty good. Also, the distance in which the wireless mic has worked is impressive. Currently our receiver is consistently about 60 feet from the location of the wireless microphone and the reception is flawless with little to no interference.
The receiver has capability of working on three (3) separate channels so expansion to up to three separate microphones working simultaneously is possible. As compared to similar brands of lavalier mics, this is a nice extra. Most other brands have only two (2) channels.
So far the staff has not found any cons or flaws regarding this system.

If you are just starting out and need an inexpensive lavalier, then this will certainly do the job. Beware of interference from cell phones, cordless phones, and radios. You'll definitely need some audio software capable of removing white noise that gets picked up by the mic. Good product. Good price.

Tried to feed speakers audio directly to camera. Got interference on either channel. The pick up to listen in was too short and constraining.

If you like wasting 6hrs of your day to shoot a 2 min video - this mic might be for you! (3 hrs, 20 takes, 3 hrs to cut and trim at home all static spots). Tried everything, FM interference off, dryer sheet to clothes, switched channels, new batteries always...booo Sony!

I purchased this product in hopes of using it for a wedding and also for interviews. Have found that the range is at best 10'-15' before I have lots of hiss and signal loss.

Comments about Sony WCS-999 Wireless System:
For the price, this is an excellent lavalier mic. Be warned though that this is by no means a professional-quality mic. The construction is pretty solid and the cables seem strong. I've had no issues other than some minor static at long distances of 20ft or more, or when objects pass between the transmitter and receiver. I'd recommend this to anyone who is looking for an inexpensive lavalier mic that will most likely work fine for you.
If you want to use this with a professional video camera that accepts XLR input, simply buy a $4 XLR plug and solder the center wire to pin 2 and the shield (outer wire) to pins 1 and 3. I did this with my Canon XL2 and it works excellent! I was very suprised it worked at all, and not only that, but it sounds perfect!

Based on Sony's reputation, I reckoned this would be a great product, and I bought 2 of these. Both the same: it is unusable due to the amount of static/noise, even at very short distances.

I bought it to use as an inexpensive wireless system for interviews. It's totally unreliable it loses signal all the time, even at close range.
I thougt Sony would make at least a decent product but this is THE worst system I've ever used.

I bought this microphone to use when teaching line dances. I like that it is practically invisible and not cumbersome. I use it with the room speakers and the class can hear my instructions very clearly.
