A popular accessory for macro shooting, the Wimberly PP100 Plamp is an easily positionable arm used to hold macro subjects and other useful objects. One end clamps to your tripod, while the clip grasps the object.
The Plamp holds a reflector or gobo in just the right spot to get that burst of light or shadow that changes a shot from okay to extraordinary. Get that annoying branch out of the shot without disturbing anything else. Position the gooseneck arm and a grey card to shade your lens or take a light reading. Or, hold a flower steady so that the shutter speed can be slow enough to get the aperture you'll need for extreme depth of field at macro distances.

I bought this item to use with a new macro lens and it did not disappoint. It attaches easily to tripod legs, table tops and any other relatively narrow surface. Within it's obvious weight limits, objects supported are held firmly in place to allow precise focus and framing to take your shot as you want without it sagging or drooping.
The only minor criticism I have had so far is that one of the elements of the smaller clamp is white which intruded into the background of my framing of a flower. I was able to address it and I guess that if the background had been white I would be writing this about the black element. So the obvious solution is to be aware of the plamp and frame accordingly.
I have used it to hold flowers to stop them swaying in the breeze as well as to hold reflectors etc. It is now an essential part of my nature and table-top photography kit.

This product is well made and does the job. To me the biggest issue is the small clamp is not very strong. It is this way by design so that when it is holding a plant stem it will not crush it. However it also means the clamp is not very strong when it comes to holding other things like reflectors.
I also have the McClamp and I believe they are a superior solution. Their smaller clamp is much strong for holding things like reflectors. For holding plant stems they have two pieces of neopreme inside the clamp that holds very well with no damage. The McClamp also comes with a soft zip case making it easier to pack and carry.

Comments about Wimberley Plamp Articulating Arm & Clamp:
I was pleased that the Plamp fits securely to the leg of my 3000 series Gitzo tripod. I ordered a McClamp as well. I find that the McClamp is a bit sturdier and capable of holding items of greater weight than the Plamp. But, the Plamp does the job and I like having the extension for additional reach.

Comments about Wimberley Plamp Articulating Arm & Clamp:
I bought this hoping it would help with my wildflower shots this year and it exceeded my expectations. I find it useful for holding plants steady in the wind, but I also use it a lot for holding a diffuser over plants to block harsh light. I'm impressed with the strength of the clamp. It really is like having a third hand.

I have two of these - one with the 12 inch extension. They are great for holding reflectors/deflectors, steadying plant life, or keeping objects out of the shot.

I just got back from a macro workshop in Santa Fe and I used my new plamp all day for three days. I used it to hold flowers, bugs, shells, lights and paper. Very, very handy to have if you are doing macro. So glad I bought it before the workshop! Now I know how to use it.

These plambs are firm enough to support a reflector, flash, or diffuser but can also be used to steady a floral stem on a breezy day. If they stand the test of time then they'll be the perfect accessory.

Comments about Wimberley Plamp Articulating Arm & Clamp:
The plamp features a nice sturdy clamp on one end and a weaker clamp on the other end. The idea is you anchor the device using the heavy-duty clamp on, for example a nearby branch or your tripod. The articulating body is stiff and keeps it's shape under a good load. The other end has a weaker clamp designed to hold a leaf, branch, reflector card, etc, steady without hurting it.
I don't have a cordless flash, so I haven't tried using it to hold a flash (the cord would pull it out of the jaws for sure), but I imagine it would hold a smaller flash without much problem. It also is supposed to be adjustable by popping a length of articulation points out, but I haven't attempted to take it apart and test this feature yet. It coils up and fits into my bag well. If I have any complaint, it's that the smaller clamp could be a hair nicer. It feels a little flimsy. I think it will be fine for most applications, but if it were a little stronger, it could easily hold a flash. That said, I think it's just a matter of removing a single nut and putting a new clamp from the hardware store on it to upgrade.
I'm excited for Spring now, when I will be able to use this to help with my insect photography.

A simple item with many uses. Own several. A little expensive though! Used to hold item's steady for macro/micro photography. I also use them to hold deflectors, & defuser's, and to block bright sunlight. (I cut small peices of thin corkboard to match clamp jaws for a little extra holding power. Use caution on amount of weight on the end of it!?) They make an additional extenion arm peice that can come in handy too; and IS inexpensive.

Comments about Wimberley Plamp Articulating Arm & Clamp:
I've had the Plamp a week. I've used it to stabilize a hibiscus plant for a 2 hour sequence of shots showing a bloom opening. I've used it to hold a 4' diameter reflector while taking a still of vegetables in a random breeze. It coils up and fits in a sandwich size Ziploc bag. It attaches to my tripod as easily as it attaches to the struts in the umbrella over our deck table. The "other" end is a gentle clamp, strong enough to hang on to the reflector & light enough to not damage a plant. It's handy.

A must have accessory for macro and close-up photography. The large clamp attaches with a solid grip to a tripod or other mounting device. The small clamp works well for objects heavier than a reflecting sheet but can be remedied with a bit of moleskin. Excellent value and invaluable tool. I highly recommend with slight reservation of the grip of the small clamp.

Great product for Macro Photography. It has a very sturdy clip on one end to attach anywhere on your tripod. The other end has a clip that is just light enough to hold the plants without damaging them. It also is very handy to hold a reflector. You can separate the joints to adjust the length, but I have a hard time getting them apart.

This is a great product that I actually bought for a different purpose than intended so I cannot be to mad at the result. I bought this to attach an bike iphone holder to it so that I could have my iphone in front of me while in the hot tub. The arm is not rigid (tight) enough to hold the weight at full length so I had to take out half the links and it worked just fine.
