Product Highlights
  • For Telescopes Equipped with an Autostar 494 Controller
  • Windows XP Compatible

The Cable Connector Kit - #506 from Meade includes the Astrofinder software program that is capable of displaying over 10,000 astronomical objects on your Windows-based PC. The program simplifies the location and identification of objects, and it also offers printable star charts for use in observing sessions.

After establishing an alignment, you merely point and click a specific point on the sky map and the telescope slews and stops with the chosen area within your eyepiece.

The included cable kit connects telescopes that are equipped with an Autostar #494 system with a PC running Windows XP. In addition to locating and viewing objects, this setup can also be used to download new software to the Autostar program, or to update satellite and celestial object positions.

The cable included connects serial ports to the RS-232 jack. Computers that only have USB ports can still use this kit with the addition of a USB/RS-232 adapter.

Note! AstroFinder software is compatible with Windows XP - it is NOT compatible with Vista

Comments about Meade Cable Connector Kit - #506:

Works great with both KStars and Stellarium under OpenSUSE Linux. I was able to just plug in the cable and use the built-in drivers from each program to control my Meade ETX-60AT scope. I have not tried the included Windows SW package.

Comments about Meade Cable Connector Kit - #506:

This product is great for several reasons. I like it because in the winter I can drive away from the city and sit in my car and view the sky through my webcam and take pictures using my SLR. The downside is that to bring it out you have to have a serial-USB conversion cable. Another somewhat negative thing is that the software is a limited version, there are a few features that aren't accessible. However, I love this product.
