Product Highlights
  • Wireless Remote Shutter Release
  • Minimizes Vibrations
  • Good for Close-ups & Time Exposures

The Nikon ML-L3 Wireless Remote Control (Infrared) is for use with the following Nikon cameras: D40, D40X, D50, D60, D70, D70S, D80, D90, D600, D3000, D5000, D3200, D5100, D7000, Coolpix P6000, P7000, P7100, N65, N75, Coolpix 8400, 8800, Pronea S, Nuvis S & Lite Touch Zoom Cameras, Nikon 1 J1, Nikon 1 J2 and Nikon 1 V1. It acts as a wireless shutter release capable of instantly triggering the shutter without disturbing the camera, up to a distance of approximately 16' (4.87 m) in front of the camera. The remote can work from behind the camera as well, however its range is not as long. It is recommended for taking pictures of subjects that are difficult to approach, or to minimize vibration for close-ups and time exposure, and it is powered by a CR-2025 3v battery (included). The ML-L3 supports the bulb exposure camera setting making it a worthwhile accessory for shooting long time exposures for low-light photography or unusual daylight effects.

The ML-L3 supports the bulb exposure camera setting making it a worthwhile accessory for shooting long time exposures during low-light photography sessions, or for unusual daylight effects.

When the ML-L3 remote control is used in M mode, users can select '- -' as the shutter speed. At this setting, the shutter opens when the shutter-release button on the ML-L3 remote control is pressed (2 seconds after the button is pressed in delayed remote mode) and remains open until the remote-control shutter-release button is pressed a second time (maximum exposure time is 30 minutes). Nikon recommends using a fully-charged EN-EL3 battery or an optional EH-5 AC adapter when using long exposures. For information regarding using the ML-L3 with flash please see the camera's user manual. Basically, depress the timer 3x to get it ready, press to start the shot and step away. Come back and press the button again and it stops the shot.

Every year I'm in charge of the family photo at our reunion. I'm always running to and from my camera. I finally decided to get a remote. I had no idea how easy it would be to use and how inexpensive it was. I wish I'd purchased it a long time ago. The only negative is my family doesn't get to laugh at me running into the photo, and I forgot to not have my hand (with remote) so obviously pointed at the camera. If I could change one thing about the actual remote I would have a way to safely attach it to my camera. Its so small I'm afraid I'll lose it.

I purchased this remote for my D5000. It's simple enough to use...set the release mode on your camera and press the button on the remote....only problem is, if you are trying to shoot from behind your camera, the sensor will not pick it up (or so has been in my experience. So far this has not been too much of an issue for me as most of the pictures i've been taking using the remote are just to avoid camera shake and i can just stand to the side and point it more directly at the sensor.

Overall, I'm pleased enough with it....wasn't expensive and helps me keep my photos sharp, however would be much nicer if you could use it 360 degrees around your camera.

Comments about Nikon ML-L3 Wireless Remote Control (Infrared):

I use the ML-L3 in landscape photography. In order to get the sharpest image, I use the remote to fire the shutter (actually, to raise the mirror first, then to fire the shutter after a second or two). I've never had any trouble with the ML-L3, other than one time after I sent my first one through the washer and dryer. It came out clean, but unusable.I'm not sure of the maximum range for it; I'm usually a couple of feet from the camera, and don't have any trouble. It's a line-of-sight device, so you need to point it at the camera, at an angle where the camera can 'see' the remote.

This does exactly what it should, a wireless remote for Nikon cameras. Handy for any shots on a tripod under 1/60th shutter speed.

I almost returned this item because it did not work out of the box as I expected, and there were no instructions with it.

But when I went to the Nikon site to make sure my camera was supposed to work with this remote, I read that the camera (D7100) will not work with the remote at the default setting. Once I changed the setting to one that lets the reomte work, it worked fine.

Its very simple to use and takes very little space in your bag. You dont have to go back and forth when you should take a group photo that should include yourself. Extremely useful when shooting from a tripod. Really worth its price.

I love this controller. It is incredibly small and easy to use.

It is much smaller than expected, which I like because it fits into my extra SD card slot in my camera case. Make sure to look up how to use this controller before using it so you don't get frustrated or think it's broken.

Another great thing is it works with bulb mode which is absolutely great.

I don't know why this isn't included in the box with any Nikon kit, but this remote is a really simple-to-use trigger for your camera, it's light, and it comes with its own carrying case so you can keep it clean. My only wish apart from making it standard equipment for any new Nikon would be to have some kind of clip so you can attach it to a tripod or camera when you are not using it.

Great accessory! In a portrait setting it allows moving around and talking to the subject, taking their mind off the camera. And for selfies, it's way easier than trying to use a self-timer.

It's a remote, what more can I say. It works and is very small.

Excellent for macrophotography when vibration becomes an issue: set my DSLR on tripod, compose picture, use mirror lock-up and finally, this nifty gadget. Wish I had bought one of this some time ago...

Better as in, usage for remote shutter. Sure there's no live view compared to using a wifi adapter on your mobile device, but the wifi adapter disconnects often. This works better, has some distance limitation, but less running from camera to group during your shot. Works for long exposure where you can set it to drop the mirror first than expose, allowing a non-vibrated shot to take place. Haven't had it for a long time to know its durability, but its a cheap remote at $ (well that depends on your perspective, it does only have 1 button)

I purchased this remote to be able to take family pictures without having to run to my spot to ensure that I am in the picture or to have to ask some stranger to take a picture of me and my family. With this remote I have control of taking the pictures I want without being MIA in our family memories.

Im only giving this 3 stars because its frustrating when i press the shutter release button and it simply doesn't go off. I have to point it at the sweet spot for it to actually take the picture. Wish it worked better. But for the price it does what its intended to do.
