It works fine in the landscape mode on my Canon 550D T2i with a BG-E8 battery grip but when I flip the camera on its side to the portrait mode it frequently slips. I read not to have a cork or a rubber faced plate due to movement, but this screw is either completely tight or finger loose and the slightest camera rotation has the leverage to loosen the screw and consequently the camera. There are no lips or ridges to prevent rotation as in the custom to camera model bases.
