Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun. Filter factor is between 2.3 and 2.8 (approx. +1.3 stops).

Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems and video cameras without problems).

This filter is glass and measures 4x4".

This is an excellent polarizer for an excellent filtration system. The polarization effect is clean, clear, if a little subtle in some cases. There is little to no color cast when rotating, which is ideal when photographing scenes where you need ideal color-correct output.

Using this filter with multiple filters in the Lee filter holder is complicated. Used solo, it is great, however its effect can be a little subtle in some cases where you would hope it was more powerful. When you need a combination of graduated ND filtration as well as polarization, use gets fairly complex. At a minimum, a tandem adapter and two Lee foundation kits are necessary to allow independent movement of the polarizer vs. the GND filter(s). Care should be taken to keep filter depth at a minimum when using the tandem adapter, so the amount of filters you can stack is limited on wide angle lenses (2-3 at most, including the polarizer). For normal through telephoto focal lengths, stacking is usually not a problem.

Would love to love the product, but broke it at the very first opening! It's glass so I am to blame, but a 70 cm drop while product was still wrapped resulted in broken glass. It's not my only Lee glass though, but the first ever to break in 3 years. I'm double penalized: this kind of product is regularly back order and rather expensive, even for Lee standard.

Deciding between this and the Lee 105mm CP. Decided on the 4x4 for the price difference and because I don't plan on using any gradient filters in the near future so I don't need to worry only being able to rotate the glass 90degrees.

Comments about LEE Filters 4x4" Circular Polarizer Glass Filter:

I used to have a B+W screw in CPL and I found that it was very hard to use with graduated filters. Therefore, I research online and found Lee 4x4 CPL is a perfect candidate for this job.

No worries with filter size now: every lens I have will work with the polarizer. I thought it wouldn't be as easy to use as a circular one, but I find it much easier, especially with nd filters and the ability to remove it quickly.

Comments about LEE Filters 4x4" Circular Polarizer Glass Filter:

I still prefer round polarizers for normal use, as this is difficult to adjust while looking through the viewfinder to see effect (depends on how easy your holder rotates). I knew it would be more work to rotate the filter, but forgot that I would normally look through the viewfinder to adjust my Circular Polarizer.

What this filter will be great for is tripod work, and in combination with ND and GND filters. Obviously with GND filters it will limit the amount you can rotate the CP to 90 degree increments.

Comments about LEE Filters 4x4" Circular Polarizer Glass Filter:

I use this mainly to saturate the sky a bit more for both landscape and high fashion photography. Because i almost always use ultra wides i dont get vignetting with this filter. Its a lovely piece of glass second to my nikon 70-200 vr2 as it doubles as a nd6.
What i dont like about it is that if you plot it in the wrong way it wont work so getting it wrong may mean a miss of a shot. But to me Im quite use to it already, just mark a sticky tape on the side which faces the front! Easy
although i dont think any filter is worth over 60bux but its not like i know how to make any

Help you a lot with unwanted reflection.
Saturate the color and reduce haze in your image.
Best with LEE standard filter holder.
And remember it'll reduce the light in 2- stops just like a regular .6ND filter.

I recently switched from the Cokin Z-pro filter holder system to the Lee system. The Lee system is so much better!! So far the Lee polarizer has done a wonderful job saturating colors and removing glare. I use it mainly for landscape work. For anyone thinking about buying a filter holder system, take my word and go with Lee.

Comments about LEE Filters 4x4" Circular Polarizer Glass Filter:

Product is good for landscape photography to deepen the color of blue skies, reduce glare from water and wet surfaces, and saturate colors. Polarizers are basically essential for photographing waterfalls. This particular polarizer slides into slots in the Lee filter system that, with adaptor rings, can be used with multiple lens sizes. This saves on the cost of having to buy a different filter for every size lens. I have used this filter with lenses from 18-200 mm. Another advantage of this filter system is that it can be used in combination with a graduated or split neutral density filter that can be slid up and down depending on the location of the horizon in the frame. Make sure that the Lee logo faces away from the lens, otherwise, the polarizing effect is weakened.I have smashed two of the same filters before, so make sure to protect them from any unexpected free falls, and collisions with the ground or other hard objects or surfaces. It hurts to pay the [$] for a 4x4 inch piece of glass. Obviously I have found the filter useful enough to spend [$] on two replacements over the years.

Comments about LEE Filters 4x4" Circular Polarizer Glass Filter:

These big 4x4" polarizers are to be used with special filter holders from different manufacturers. This is made of glass, so it's more durable than those made of resin. Only drawback I can see is the price tag :)

Comments about LEE Filters 4x4" Circular Polarizer Glass Filter:

High quality filter. 4 of 5 stars, because to use a polarizer effectively with any graduated filter, you really need to have the adapter to rotate the polarizer independently.. adding to the overall cost.

Comments about LEE Filters 4x4" Circular Polarizer Glass Filter:

Great filter! Easy to use. Can see effectiveness right through the viewfinder. I have used this filter on bright sunny days at the coast. It really cuts out the reflection off the water and brightens the blue sky.

Lee Filters cost a bit more, but they're worth it.
