Part of my pros and cons will appear contradictory. They aren't. The padded sleeve is quite nice and more than capable of protecting your gear from bumps. It goes without saying you don't want to drop the bag. The poor padding comment relates to the bag strap and the rear pocket. A small laptop or tablet will not be padded even if placed inside the main compartment between the pad and the shell. Some reviews that I read elsewhere implied that padding protected such a device if placed in the main bag area. That's not true, at least for both sides of the tablet/laptop. And, there isn't room for an additional laptop sleeve if you are toting a DSLR and kit. If you have a Leica kit, then you probably can use a thin neoprene sleeve.

I recently purchased this bag to take on a short European vacation (8 days in Italy). I wanted something that didn't scream "I'm a camera bag," although a savvy thief presumably will know what usually comes inside a Billigham bag. I read just about every review I could find about the bag before making the purchase, in part because there are no dealers in my area, so I couldn't see the bag before buying it. My biggest concern was the size of the bag.

Here's what I can store fairly easily for my plane ride. ASUS tablet and keyboard (10"); Canon 60D (with handstrap attached -- this adds 1/2 inch to camera) and 24-105 attached (w/ lens hood also attached; 17-40mm stacked on 50mm/1.8 (with collapsible lens hood attached; lens hood for 17-40mm resting on camera body during transit; and external flash reside in the main compartment. Side pockets hold CF card case; couple filters; couple cables; battery charger; extra battery. There's a little extra room for cell phone too. All of this fits snugly, but doesn't strain the bag. The rear pocket is empty but can hold a couple magazine or a guidebook. When I get to my destination, I can shed some of the items to make use shooting easier. I can also place a compact umbrella under the main flap of the bag and above the flap to the padded compartment. If you're thinking about a water bottle, you're probably out of luck.

The quality is great. Be aware that the Billingham advises caution when first getting the bag wet so as to avoid a transfer of dyes. It's unclear if that applies to the leather or the FibreNyte. I haven't run into that issue yet. The FibreNyte is light and pliable. It is not as soft as the canvas. Some reviews suggest a sheen, which is mild, but it doesn't give the bag synthetic look. I don't care for the strap color or handle color -- it feels like Billingham decided to make two strap colors and make it work for the sage and tan colored bags. Looking at pictures for the bags, it was unclear what the colors would look like when it arrived. Some reviews online showed much brighter colors than what I received. I think the actual colors more closely resemble the darker photos available online, including those on B&H's site.

The bag sits close to the body and I can let it rest on the hip opposite my shooting hand. This is nice in areas with pickpockets, etc. as I can easily rest my non-shooting elbow/forearm/hand over the bag comfortably. The fasteners for the main compartment require you to lift the strap and pull it off of the brass post. You'd have to be pretty deft to do that without alerting the person carrying the bag. And, it's hard to slip a hand under the flap and pull out a mid-sized lens. Having lived in a number of very large cities, I naturally revert to those anti-pickpocket strategies on the street/subway/bus/etc. pretty quickly. And, this bag gives you the *opportunity* to reasonably protect your belonging with some diligence on your part.

The dimensions are listed here. But, despite its large functional space, it is a little smaller than a school satchel or laptop case. When I ordered the bag, I told my wife I wanted something more discrete than my Lowepro sling 100AW (which is great). Mostly in jest, she referred to the bag as my man purse. I don't think it is that small, but I guess it depends on who's using it. I would think the Hadley small would be too diminutive for most men even if it accommodated your kit. I'll leave the man bag debate for another day.

This bag is great for city shooting and for a more discrete camera bag. It's durable. It holds more than you think.

I highly recommend the extra money for the strap pad. Some reviews suggest it should be included for the price, and they are correct in my opinion. I have no doubt the extra money will make long days much more fun for my shoulders. It also improves the overall look of the bag by dressing up the mismatched tan shoulder strap.

This bag is every bit as classy and high quality as I expected. However, the interior padding really makes space tighter than anticipated. I have elected to go with the Domke J-803. I carry an X-T1, X100S, couple of Fuji lens, a flash, and few odds and ends. All fit into the main compartments of either bag, but the J-803 allows me to much more conveniently take items in and out, and it is more spacious and deep overall. Additionally, it has pockets in the flap whereas the Hadley does not. Domke bags generally have foam padding that is less thick and bulky than other manufacturers. Some folks perceive this as a potential detriment. I've had another Domke J-bag for my DSLRs for over 15 years, and the "thinner" padding has NEVER been an issue in terms of risk of damage to my gear. Domke balances perfectly the needed padding without sacrificing flexibility and spaciousness. My Domke has literally been around the world, and it looks as good as the day I bought it other than fading and slight wear on the cotton strapping. Aside from the prospect of losing some space and flexibility because of the heavier, more rigid cushioned insert, I loved the Hadley and would have kept it

        I am loving it already.

The bag perfectly fits my Nixon camera, extra lense, and all the cords/wires that come with it. I definitely recommend this product for anyone who appreciates their camera as much as I do. I was given this camera bag as a holiday gift and I could not be happier with it!

Comments about Hadley Pro Shoulder Bag (Black Canvas & Leather):

It's a little small for DSLR users, but if you store it with no lens, it'll fit fine. You will only have a few lenses in your setup with this bag. The storage is also not that great considering small things could fall out since there aren't zips. Then again, the styling is great and zips would kill it. The build is very good and it's really light. I actually exchanged it for the Hadley Large for slightly more storage space, but I do see the value of the top handle for the Pro. I'd recommend it for light DSLR setups and/or M4/3 users and/or rangefinder users.

This Billingham is constructed in a way that I will expect to last a minimum of the rest of my life. It is easy to carry either on the shoulder, cross chest or by the very handy grab handle. My cameras and lenses nestle into the nice, deep pockets of the main body and the extraneous bits fit well into the two front, snap closure pockets. I frequently carry an Ereader and it slips right into the space between the padded insert and the external rear bag material. It is a pleasure to use and a beauty to look at.

The bag is made of high quality material and represents a good value for the money. It is weather sealed, water resistant and has plenty of room to accommodate your film and or digital gear, particularly Micro 4/3 camera and lenses. The insert is removable, so if you have more than one camera you may purchase additional inserts and remove/insert as needed. You can also fit a Apple MacBook air easily inside and and iPad mini in the back zipper pocket. You may also remove the insert and use the bag as a messenger bag for daily use. Ample choices here! Overall really well designed. For extra storage, consider the Avea 5 or 3 side pockets - they compliment the bag and allow for items like extra lenses and or flash units to be store comfortably inside. This bag should last you a life time, and within a lifetime warranty by Billingham, you really don't have to worry about it. Do yourself a favor, invest in this bag to care for your expensive camera equipment - you really won't be disappointed!

Comments about Hadley Pro Shoulder Bag (Khaki Canvas & Tan Leather):

In other words, it is just right for me when travelling. I used to use a Billingham Alice, so that I could carry one Leica M body, two lenses, iPad and the necessary cables and charger and still have room for a paperback and passport. But if I want to take a MacBook Air 13" the Hadley Pro does the job just nicely. I can use it as a carry-on bag, and it is still small and light enough to carry around at my destination. No need to comment on quality of construction, waterproofing and sturdiness, with Billingham these are taken for granted.

I bought this because my Hadley small didn't have enough room to carry a TLR camera along with my Digital SLR. In it I'm able to fit a Nikon D7100 with a lens, a second super wide angle lens and the TLR camera. Batteries, cards, filters and remotes fit in the expandable front pockets without issue and the zippered, rear pocket carries my ipad. Great water repellence and superb quality. Buy one of this once, you're good forever.

Comments about Hadley Pro Shoulder Bag (Sage FibreNyte & Tan Leather):

Have a Nikon Df and the Hadley Pro holds Nikkor 24/2.8D, 50/1.8G, 85/1.8G, 180/2.8 AF, and a Zeiss 100/2MP. I can easily add a 35/2. However, I do NOT carry the Df body in this bag - for me, shooting works best carrying body w/ lens on the opposite shoulder with the bag holding spare lenses. As a larger guy, the slim profile of the Hadley Pro is welcomed - doesn't bump into anything, hugs my side, and doesn't make me any wider than I have to be . It is plenty tall and lenses can stack. Using extra inserts, I created 4 lens compartments across the bag (2.5-3" in width each). The non-padded front pockets hold MH24 charger, SB300 strobe, filters, etc. An 11" MacBook Air can be tucked behind the insert. I also have a black canvas Alice bag - the real canvas is soft to the touch and feels wonderful - the FibreNyte is sightly coarser, but still a fairly nice texture - much better than most nylon canvas. Billingham's choice of fabric is to be complemented. I plan to add an Avea 3 pocket (will hold a DR5 right angle viewer plus an S-K 3x loupe). Although this bag is compact looking, it holds an amazing amount of EQ.

Comments about Hadley Pro Shoulder Bag (Khaki Canvas & Tan Leather):

I'd seen some glowing reviews of Billingham's camera bags, and since I was in the market for a bag for my Fuji X kit, I thought I'd try one out. It was immediately clear that the bag's reputation was well deserved. The construction is impeccable, the canvas fabric is beautiful, and (most importantly) it's extremely functional. It's not very difficult to get into the bag with one hand, the lid closes securely, and it keeps my gear well protected.

In terms of size, it can comfortably fit one rangefinder-style body with attached lens, plus four other lenses — not to mention a bunch of accessories in the front pockets. I was initially thinking about the Hadley Small, but I'm very happy with the Pro. It's smaller than you might think, and even if you usually only carry a camera and two lenses (as I do), the option for the extra room is well worth the minor increase in size and weight. The handle on the top is also a critical feature not present on the Small.

An important note: in person, particularly indoors, the khaki color is substantially darker than it appears in the B&H product photo. Frankly, this was a big relief for me, and it's a very versatile color. This is the classic Billingham color scheme, and to my eyes it's more elegant than the stealthy black options.

Bottom line: this is an awesome bag. It's expensive, but if you want this bag (and you should), you're going to buy it eventually. Don't waste your money on lesser bags with which you'll be dissatisfied — just save up and buy the last camera day bag you'll ever own.

Comments about Hadley Pro Shoulder Bag (Black Canvas & Tan Leather):

I use this bag for my MFT kit and my MBA 13". Though it is a little cramped for the laptop, this is about the only bag that is all weather proof due to the top cover actually goes over the edges of the bag. I've looked at and had many other bags, but when its coming down, this bag is the only one that keeps everything dry without letting in a single drop.

The material and the craftsmanship of this bag is second to non and feels comfortable to carry around. My only nit is that it would be nice to include the shoulder pad like they have on the bigger bags. This can of course be purchased as an add-on, but should have been included.

My bigger bag is in sage color, but chose black with leather trim for this one as I will also use it as my every day work bag. The padded insert can be removed which give you additional room for other things.

All in all a great bag

Incredibly comfortable and well made. Does not cut into one's shoulder, even when fully loaded with two camera bodies, 4 lenses, and multiple batteries, etc.

Very nice bag. Definitely the best I've owned for my M kit. Can fit two M bodies with lenses and a few other lenses. I was worried that the quick release tabs on the front would become loose and reduce the utility of the bag, but that doesn't seem to have happened yet. I'm definitely enjoying it.
