            Brass, not flimsy aluminum.

            Comments about Heliopan 52-77mm Step-Up Ring (#147):

The ONLY Step-Up Ring(s) you will ever buy again. That's because Heliopan makes THE ONLY brass Step-Up Ring(s). The rest are all made of aluminum. Pricsy. Yes, but if you've ever had your expensive filter stuck tight to any of the other brands of aluminum Step-Up Rings, you know what I'm talking about-and I think I've tried most of them. Do yourself a favor, spring for the best. Considering the thousands of dollars many of us have spent on cameras and lenses over the years, this is a chance to buy the best for what amounts to pocket change

              Comments about Heliopan 52-77mm Step-Up Ring (#147):

Made of brass, changing filter is easy esp during the rush. I guess the reason is that brass adapter is well hard and stays in complete round form all the time, no matter where pressure is put onto it when twisting. Its thread is smooth. Its hardness prevents it from cross thread. It is quite costly, but it is worth investment.

                  Comments about Heliopan 52-77mm Step-Up Ring (#147):

                  I picked up a Nikon 12-24 and a few quality 77mm filters.
Wanting to use the filters with a prime lens I looked into a highly regarded step up ring.I decided on the 77mm Step-up Ring #147 by Heliopan. The reviewers all spoke of the quality and the fact that the ring will not stick.Being a victim of a stuck ring I am aware of the value of a high quality anything you are threading on to a lens or filter.I couldn't be more satisfied than I am with this purchase.
There isn't one thing I can remotely come up with that is negative.
I will add that B&H Photo was fast, fast.

                      Comments about Heliopan 52-77mm Step-Up Ring (#147):

I put this on my 35mm lens, so I can use my 77mm filters on it. Its brass, so the filters that screw onto it don't bind.

I won't get anything none brass now since I screwed on a ND grad (polished aluminum) onto my B+W 10-stop (brass) and it got stuck...I didn't screw it on tight because I was worried of this. I managed to get it off luckily.

Don't mess around with aluminum step-up rings, you will be happy you go with a solid brass one like this.

Very robust construction made of brass instead of aluminum. You maybe thinking it doesn't matter but I have had issuses with aluminum filters sticking together. Not so with this ring so far. Sure it's relativity heavy and expensive but it works.

Just what you would expect from Heliopan, a really good step-up ring that won't bind, or get twisted out of shape from use. If you need a step-up ring, don't hesitate to get this one. This one is a bit more expensive, but worth every penny compared to the off brand step-up rings made from aluminum.

                                  Comments about Heliopan 52-77mm Step-Up Ring (#147):

Though this is a very expensive product and one can get step-up rings much cheaper, they are perfectly finished and confidence inspiring. But then my filters are very expensive as are the lens that they thread onto. These are sturdy, beautifully finished and will not stick or lock. Precision threading that makes removing and adding filters smooth and removes any consequent frustration in time-bound situations. Over the years, I have had all kinds of step up/down rings, but having moved to better filters (thin profiles), I am coughing up the extra to protect them too. These are the best rings I have come across.

                                          Comments about Heliopan 52-77mm Step-Up Ring (#147):

There are not many heavy duty 52-77mm step rings out there, most are plastic or aluminum. This is brass and is seriously sturdy. You could probably use is as an improvised gardening trowel and it would be none the worse for wear.

On the downside, it's heavier than any other step ring you've ever seen. I use it on a Fuji 240mm view camera lens. But by the time you pack everything needed for a view camera, the additional weight is not notable and you have a step ring that is not going to bind to a filter, short of catastrophic destruction.

The other downside is that it's so good that it's remarkably expensive, but if you plan on using it for decades, it's not really that expensive. I have no doubt that it will outlast me!

I have heard that brass transmits shock instead of deforming like aluminum or plastic. At the risk of cursing myself, I will say that in nearly 40 years of photography I've never dropped a lens. :-) But if you're the kind of person who drops lenses, well, you may want a bit more of an airbag. Personally, I think this unit is worth the bucks and I'm more concerned about a filter binding than I am about dropping a lens and in that regard, the Heliopan is a winner.

                                            Comments about Heliopan 52-77mm Step-Up Ring (#147):

Just wanted to test heliopan's ring quality.
I was wondering if the built quality was really that great compared to some b+w's that i found great. B+W seems like solid plastic, they're also very nice.
Heliopan's feel more like metal ring, won't be easy to break, that's for sure.
Well, they do cost more but they're very solid. The metal feel might be a problem for some people when screwing and unscrewing filters, maybe some might prefer platic rings. I keep the filter with lenshood on my lens so it doesn't bother me.
If you don't want to worry about changing those rings, and have the extra coins, go for heliopan.
They do weight a lot more by the way.
I also got some heliopan metal lens hood, the built quality is excellent.
I might do some shotgun tests like on those pelican products, ok maybe it won't survive that treatment lol
4 stars because of the price, but quality cost more, that's a fact.. still, maybe lower the price a bit, it's just a ring

Hope this helped, have a nice day!

Although a bit pricey, you can be sure this step-up ring will not bind. It is also built like a tank.

Made from brass, won't bind to your lens. The only type of step-up ring I'll use! Not cheap, but won't cause problems in the field.
