Comments about SP Studio Systems Image Projector- SP100/147/920:

As others have mentioned, this can be made to work with lights from Paul C. Buff. While I don't know what others are doing that would require bungee cords, I have adapted mine to work with the "LiteMod" system from PCB. As long as you have a LiteMod reflector/mount, this projector can very easiy be adapted for use with any PCB light (Alien Bees, Einsteins, White Lightning). First, the product itself is made from thin sheet metal, not plastic. The mount however is made from plastic, but is only held on with two screws. Removing the mount, you can make a plate to fit the light mod mount and then use the existing screw holes to mount this unit to the plate. Now you have a projector to use with your PCB lights for less than $, and you don't need to take the modeling bulb out or use bungee cords to hold it in place. While this unit isn't of the quality you'd see in higher priced projectors; for $ it simply can't be beat. It's simple (two rectagular metal tubes sliding over each other) and it does the job. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

Comments about SP Studio Systems Image Projector- SP100/147/920:

Image projectors (AKA optical or fesnel lens snoots) can add interesting accents to your background, but are hard to find and very expensive. But don't be fooled by the price of this one: it produced exactly the effects I was looking for! Check out the pictures I've attached.

This projector is made of aluminum, not plastic as someone else said. It's light weight and fairly sturdy, but it's not heavy duty.

IMPORTANT NOTES: It is designed to fit SP Studio lights (as listed in the heading), but can fit others as well that have a 4" circumference "lip" to attach it to. I used it on a Bowens 250 WS Travelite , but I had to remove the modeling bulb for it to fit. (And it won't fit on a Bowens R series). I also can only use one of the two slots while it's on the Bowens. (The SP Studio lights dn't have these limitations)

NOTES ON GOBOS: Before you buy, check out the Rosco size B gobos available for it, to make sure it's what you want. You will NOT need to buy the Rosco gobo holder, as this projector comes with 2 already. It also has 2 slots for gobos, so you can use a pattern plus a colored gel.

THE GLASS GOBOS DO NOT FIT INTO THIS PROJECTOR. However, I used a Dremel tool to cut a wider slot in it just for that purpose, so you can use them if you're willing to do that. The glass gobos are very expensive but produce beautiful results. Check out the sample I attached.

Bootom Line: this isn't the most elegant image projector, but it works fine and costs a tenth of what others cost.

Comments about SP Studio Systems Image Projector- SP100/147/920:

I have been looking for a way to jimmyrig my Alien Bees strobes to use gobos and have the project patterns actually be visible. There were a few other options but they were several hundred dollars and would still require rigging it up in a sloppy way. So I bought this and it fits on an Alien Bees light PERFECTLY. Then you can put any Gobo size B in it and get all kinds of lighting effects. I recommend using 2 small bungee cords to secure the image projector to your light, but that is super easy. Also, don't use modeling light when this is attached because it will build up heat and start to melt. Note, it is made out of plastic, so it's not super sturdy, but [$] for this price, so what do you expect? But other than that it works great!

fast, cheap and easy. I wanted a projector to work with my Alien Bee monolights that could project theatrical gobos on a background. This did it. Yea!
