Easy and simple to use. The head had no problem holding a Nikon D300 with a 200mm lens.

Comments about Giottos Pro Heavy Duty Large Ball Head:

The ball head itself is great, way better than my Manfrotto 488RC2. The mount is ...let me put it like this... cheap looking and feeling. Due to the fact that it has to support my 40D + grip + sigma 170-500 + 580EXII, and sometimes my old film SLR i didn't like the screw mount and just got the giottos MH652 quick release assy and changed it to that. it's really easy: just undo the allen bolt, take the screw thing off and replace with the quick mount.
i recommend you get a couple of plates for the quick release too (mh642).

bottom line, for me this is a great piece of equipment and i highly recommend it.

    Screw failed

Comments about Giottos Pro Heavy Duty Large Ball Head:

I had just received the item and attached my camera. I gave it a good twist to make sure it was secure and the screw connecting the camera to the head broke. The screw goes from 3/8" to 1/4" and broke where this conversion occurs. Luckily, I was still holding my camera otherwise it may have taken a nasty spill. If your set on purchasing this, I would recommend buying different mount screw.

Comments about Giottos Pro Heavy Duty Large Ball Head:

I had my Rollie 6008 mounted on this thing and the screw attaching the camera to the mount failed! It broke off completely! Nevertheless, my back, 45 deg viewfinder, camera body is no longer! Boy did i learn my lesson! Stay away from cheap components! Oh and my 180mm f2.8 has a nice battle scar! Giottos selection of material to produce the most important part of head, that which keeps the camera attached to the head, is less than desirable! Its applaling that they would use sub-standard components on a "PRO"model that is rated to hold up my camera!

      STAY AWAY FROM THIS!!!

Comments about Giottos Pro Heavy Duty Large Ball Head:

Used on a Slik 780 dx tripod with a 300mm 2.8 lens and d300. My concern was to get a ball head that would handle the weight of the lens and camera with a degree of excess. I wasn't about to put over $6,000 worth of equipment on a cheap ball head that did not exceed the actual equipment weight. Very happy with the choice.
