Circular Polarizer - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.
NOTE: Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems and video cameras without problems).

While the polarizing WORKS I find the adjustment ring turns to easily when I am putting on my lens cap and worst of all when my lens is wide open it causes horrible vignetting on any images taken at that range. (This is on the Nikkor 28-300 lens). Not such a good bargain if half of my images have to be cropped to get rid of the vignetting because it's so bad I can't even fix it in Photoshop. I am now shopping for a better quality filter.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter:
So I have had cheaper polarizers in the past and they were horrible. my camera had issues focusing. or blur around the edges. it was bad enough I avoided filters for a long while. I didn't experience any of that with this polarizer if running a 24-105 some people experience some vignetting at around 24mm, I haven't noticed it. maybe it has to do with the difference between full frame and cropped sensor. (i have a 7d)
Anyway I am happy with my purchase. did some golf course shots and they turned out great.

The Polaroids are the most useful and versatile of my filters. In a pinch, they can be used as neutral density filters, allowing them to multi-task in a given situation.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter:
As a polarizer, it barely meets the minimum needs. I can hardly tell that any polarizing is occuring - which makes it extremely difficult to adjust. I have had filters where the polarizing was extreme - too much filtration. This one is probably not worth the money. I can accomplish more filtration in Photoshop.

The circular polarizer keeps the sky blue and the water clear without having to rotate and adjust it. It's convenient, crystal clear, and my Canon lens cap stays attached. I can't ask for anything more!

I use this filter on my NIKKOR 12-24 and it is great. The turning of the front ring is so smooth and the clarity with the polarization is great. I love this filter and will surely be buying more Hoya filters soon. Their quality is unmatched!

This filter is really good value for non-pros. Well made and certainly cuts out a good amount of stray light, adding detail to brighter areas.

My complaint is that it causes vignetting because its frame is very wide.
If you're going to buy a polarizer, get a slim one
