Circular Polarizer - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.
NOTE: Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems and video cameras without problems).

I purchased this polariser as an accessory to my 16-35mm f2.8 lens with Canon 5D mk II but found that the quality is poor and it can't keep up with the glass quality of the lens, causing pixellation, poor contrast, lack of detail in mid tones and focus problems. Polarisation also isn't even on the wide angle, with only a small patch of blue being darkened on a clear day. If you're going to buy a polariser I suggest upgrading to their HD version!

Comments about Hoya 82mm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter:
The polarizer filter is always a handy tool to have when shooting reflecting items such as glass windows and water. Since it cuts down the light, I only use it when necessary, but, it will work well with landscapes and architectural photography, cutting window reflections, making clouds stand out more against the bluer sky, and making objects under water more visible. You must have a polarized light source such as the sun to make it really work. Since it cuts the light about a stop, you can use it as a sort of ND filter as well. I do wish they made this in a series size filter, but, you should be able to buy step up adapters for other lenses of smaller diameter. Trick is buy the filter to fit your largest diameter lens and use the step rings to adapt it to the rest of the lenses. Just remember to adjust (by turning) the polarizer filter every time you change your camera angle to get the best results.

Comments about Hoya 82mm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter:
honesty this filter was fine, but almost to the day after the year long warranty I had it on my lens for an interior shoot, on a tripod - no stress what so ever I was just rotating it to take off some glare and to my surprise it came apart in my hands with a broken inner ring. I know I am very cautious and careful with my lenses and filters and for this to happen warns me away from buying any Hoya in the future.

Comments about Hoya 82mm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter:
I use 2 of these filters, one on my Canon 16-35mm lens and one on my Canon XF305 video camera. You can buy much more expensive glass, but the results might be a bit better, but for such a large diameter filter, the quality for hte price in the Hoya filter line is very good. Hoya in general is a solid performer and well worth the money

Bought this to go with a 16-35 Canon EF 2.8 lens. It dropped on the boat and was not any worse for it. That is a miracle to me! Did great with the lens in Alaska on a fishing boat. Love it!

This is the second one of these that I bought because the first one fell apart right after the warranty expired but only after about 12 hours of shooting across that period. Hopefully this one doesn't fall apart, too; I would have tried another brand but had just enough on a gift card for this one.
When functioning, is a good polarizer.

Love the color saturation and contrast, especially with the sky. It's much more blue now! Just make sure your subject is at about a 90-degree angle from the sun for the bluest skies.
